Description

About the Role

We’re looking for a skilled storyteller and strategic communicator to lead the Human Services Agency’s internal and external communications. As the Public Information Officer, you’ll shape how we connect with the public, share our mission, and highlight the impact of our programs. You’ll report directly to Director Claire Cunningham and serve as a trusted advisor on media relations, crisis communications, and community engagement.

How You’ll Make an Impact

In this role, you’ll develop and guide communication strategies that strengthen public trust, support transparency, and elevate the voices of those we serve. From managing media outreach to creating accessible, inclusive content across digital and print platforms, your work will ensure the Agency’s message is clear, consistent, and aligned with our values. You’ll collaborate with leadership and staff to support internal communication, respond to urgent issues, and help tell the story of our work in a way that resonates with the community.

What You’ll Bring to the Team

You bring a strategic, collaborative mindset with experience navigating high-stakes environments. Your strengths include clear and compelling storytelling, confident media and crisis communication, and fluency in tools like Microsoft Office, Adobe, Canva, and social media platforms. You lead with strong judgment, political awareness, and a people-centered approach, staying calm under pressure and communicating with clarity and care.

To be successful in this role, you’ll likely bring:

  • A bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field
  • At least two years of experience in public information, journalism, media relations, digital engagement, or strategic communications
  • A track record of developing content for broad audiences through press releases, newsletters, websites, or multimedia campaigns
