The Department:
The Mayor and Council office is a division of the City Manager’s Office. As an integral part of the City Manager’s Office, the Mayor and Council division provides administrative support to the City Council and general customer service to constituents and external stakeholders. The Santa Clara City Council consists of the Mayor elected at-large, and six City Councilmembers elected by City Council district.
The Position:
The Executive Assistant is an executive-level support position responsible for interacting effectively with the public, elected officials, City management and key department staff. The position will provide administrative support including calendar management, oversight of event and meeting coordination, managing travel arrangements, administration of office budget, and managing a wide range of complex administrative duties with initiative, independence, while supporting management staff and elected officials. This role requires exceptional organizational skills, strong communication abilities, and the capacity to handle confidential information with discretion.
This class is distinguished from other office administrative classes by its direct reporting relationship to the City Manager and its broader continuing interfaces with political and elected officials, department directors, other government agencies, private business representatives, City staff, and the public. The ideal candidate must be able to handle non-partisan confidential matters with a high level of judgement, practice confidentiality and discretion. An incumbent in this position demonstrates strong ethical, professional, and service-oriented leadership and interpersonal skills, sets a good example, and correctly applies the tenets of the City's Code of Ethics and Values.
As a member of the City's unclassified service, this is an "at-will" position, and the incumbent serves at the discretion of the City Manager.

Effective December 21, 2025, the annual salary range for this position will be $127,822.08 - $165,412.56. This position may be filled at or near the minimum of the salary range.
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Education Requirements:
High school diploma or tested equivalent.
Minimum Experience Requirements:
Six (6) years of progressively responsible and varied administrative support including supervisory responsibilities, which includes one (1) year of support experience assisting executive management or a high-level public official.

License/Certifications:
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment and for duration of employment.
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience working in the public sector.
Other Requirements:
- Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment.
- Requires a comprehensive background examination, including fingerprints.
- Incumbents of this classification may be required to occasionally work odd and unusual hours.
