Description
The City of Saratoga has an open recruitment for a full-time Park Maintenance Lead Worker in the Public Works Department. The incumbent will report to the Park Maintenance Division Manager. The Lead Worker performs all duties consistent with the Maintenance Worker I/II/III classifications and is distinguished by the level of difficulty of the work performed. The Lead Worker supports the Park Maintenance Division Manager by assisting with special projects, bid review, contractor/vendor coordination, and review of contracts and purchase orders. Additionally, the Lead Worker is responsible for leading and training a crew of maintenance workers, providing field direction within parameters established by the Division Manager, and delivering excellent customer service to the public, contractors, vendors, and City staff.
Typical duties may include but are not limited to: Ensures that work schedules developed by the Manager are effectively implemented and adhered to; Assists the Manager with coordination of special maintenance projects including bid review and contractor/vendor oversight; Troubleshoots equipment problems; Secures tools, materials and equipment required for assigned jobs; Trains assigned staff on the safe, effective operations of equipment prior to authorizing use of the equipment; Ensures safe practices are followed and maintains thorough knowledge of division emergency procedures; Recommends purchasing of necessary supplies and equipment; Assists the Manager with review of contracts and purchase orders; Prepares a variety of written records and reports related to the work; Assists in the review and evaluation of work performance of subordinate staff; Reads and interprets plans, blueprints, manuals, and specifications; Assists in monitoring the division's budget, analyzes cost effectiveness of services and makes recommendations in support of cost control budget initiatives; Maintains strong working relationships and provides excellent customer service to the public, contractors, vendors, and City staff.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
The Lead Worker requires an equivalent to graduation from high school with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in the maintenance of parks or similar facilities including some technical training in horticulture, landscape maintenance, or a related field.
LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Possession of a valid Class C California driver’s license with an acceptable driving record at the time of appointment and throughout employment; At the option of the City, persons hired into this class may be required to either possess at entry or obtain within specified time limits designated licenses, certificates or specialized education and training relevant to the area of assignment.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The City of Saratoga provides an excellent total compensation and benefits package along with a 9/80 Work Schedule: Nine-hour days Monday to Thursday; and an eight-hour day one Friday, off the next Friday.
The salary for this position will be set at a step between steps 1 and 5 based on qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
The annual salary range for Steps 1-5 is $46.45 - $56.44. The City has a seven-step range, including multi-year steps 6 and 7. Advancement to steps 6 and 7 is after four (4) years of satisfactory service at Steps 5 and 6, respectively.
