Applications are being accepted for the position of Fire Courier (part-time/hourly) with the City of South San Francisco. This is a non-benefited, part-time/hourly position.

Hourly Rate: $23.16 - $28.16 per hour
Schedule: flexible scheduling, up to 20 hours per week, Monday to Friday between the hours of 08:00AM – 5:00PM.

THE DEPARTMENT
The South San Francisco Fire Department provides its residents with service in fire suppression; first-responder and ambulance transport emergency medical services; hazardous materials response; urban search and rescue; marine rescue and fire prevention, investigation and public education. The Department operates five (5) fire stations throughout the City, plus an Emergency Operations Center and Fire Training Tower and is comprised of 92 dedicated staff members.
IDEAL CANDIDATE SECTION
The City of South San Francisco is seeking a dependable and service-oriented individual to join our Fire Department team as a Fire Courier. This essential role provides logistical support to ensure the operational readiness of all five City Fire stations and assists city-wide departments through reliable mail, materials, and records handling.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
- Provides logistical support to all five of the City’s Fire stations and departments by delivering essential supplies and materials to maintain operational readiness.
- Picks up, sorts, and delivers interdepartmental and USPS mail, packages, and materials to City departments and external entities; processes outgoing mail, meters postage, and maintains departmental records of postage use.
- Assists in maintaining and retrieving City records from storage, ensuring timely delivery to appropriate departments.
- Operates a City vehicle safely and efficiently during daily tasks.
- Uses handcarts and lifting devices to transport materials as needed.
- Operates a personal computer to manage inventory and storage records.
- Maintains positive working relationships with staff and the public through courteous and professional interaction.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Ability to use standard office equipment, including a computer; sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, and maintain sustained posture in a seated or standing position for prolonged periods of time; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone; lift from the ground and carry 60 pounds; move several boxes via hand truck or cart. Travel to different sites and locations; must maintain safe driving record; maintain a clean and neat appearance.
QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be:
Experience: None
Training: high school diploma or equivalent.
Licenses/Certificates:
- Possession of a valid California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
- Valid CPR “Healthcare Provider” card (American Heart Association or equivalent) is highly desirable. Selected candidate without a CPR card will be provided training by the department
