Applications are being accepted for the position of Economic Development Intern with the City of South San Francisco. This is a non-benefited, part-time/hourly position.

Hourly Rate: Undergraduate Students: $23-$30/hour
The Department
The Department of Economic and Community Development includes four divisions that support the physical and economic well-being of South San Francisco:
- Planning – Long-range planning, development review, and zoning administration.
- Building – Enforces building codes and conducts construction inspections.
- Housing – Manages affordable housing programs and housing policy.
- Economic Development – Supports small businesses and promotes economic growth.
THE POSITION
- This position will work specifically in the Economic Development Division.
- Approximately 15 hours per week, with flexibility depending on outside commitments.
- Availability to support some upcoming events scheduled during occasional weekday late afternoons or evenings.
- The duration of this position is for six months from the date of hire, with the ability to extend based on performance.
TYPICAL DUTIES (may include but are not limited to the following):
- Assists the Division with promotions, and marketing programs that support local businesses.
- Assists the Division with City communications, including email campaigns, social media, and flyer distribution.
- Supports the Division with upcoming events hosted by the City and its economic development partners. Upcoming events include, but are not limited to, the Biotech and Beyond Speaker Series, business workshops both in-person and virtual, community events, and night markets. Support may include event planning, outreach, logistics, and day of planning and support, as needed.
- Assists the Division with implementation of some of Skyline College’s Accelerate Fellowship Program past projects that support downtown revitalization, and business support initiatives.
- Assists the Division with planning event logistics including budgets, timelines, and staffing plans. This also includes onsite coordination of events, including set-up, and clean-up.
- The Economic Development Intern may also support occasional follow up reports needed to show performance metrics from events implemented by the Division.
- General administrative support, as needed.
- This position may occasionally work at either City Hall (400 Grand Avenue) or the Economic Advancement Center (366 Grand Avenue) both in South San Francisco. Events and meetings coordinated by the Division take place all within the City of South San Francisco.
- Performs other related duties as required.

The ideal candidate has a general knowledge of, or interest in learning, online applications such as Canva, Constant Contact, website editing, PowerPoint, Zoom, or Eventbrite. They are a strategic and creative thinker who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Entrepreneurial, adaptable, and solutions-oriented, they bring a strong commitment to promoting South San Francisco’s economic vitality. This person also enjoys engaging in a public-facing role within a diverse, multicultural community.
Education:
Applicants must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at an accredited community college. Coursework in communications, public administration, business, marketing, community development, or a related field is desirable.
