Description

Applications are being accepted for the position of Mail Courier with the City of South San Francisco. This is a part-time/hourly non-benefitted position.

Hourly Rate: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour

Schedule: Monday – Friday. This is a 2.5 hour/day assignment for a total of 12.5 hours per week. There is some flexibility in the said schedule.

The Position

Under general supervision, the Mail Courier picks-up, distributes, and delivers mail to City Departments and facilities; processes outgoing mail; picks-up and delivers supplies and materials for and on behalf of the City; assists with storage and inventory control of records; performs routine filing of City records and files; drives a City vehicle daily while performing delivery tasks; and performs related duties as assigned.  

Typical Duties: 

  • Picks-up, sorts, and delivers interdepartmental mail, USPS mail, packages, and materials to City departments, offices, and facilities.
  • Picks-up and drops-off packages to other mail facilities like the post office, FedEx, and UPS.
  • Processes incoming and outgoing mail, ensuring that mail is metered and labeled properly; operates mail equipment and records amounts of postage used by each department.
  • Use of handcarts and lifting devices when necessary.
  • Picks-up and delivers supplies and materials to City offices.
  • Interacts courteously with department staff and the public and maintains good working relations.
  • Assists in maintaining the City’s records in storage; searches for records; retrieves and delivers stored files to appropriate City Departments.
  • Operates a City vehicle safely.
  • Operates a personal computer to maintain storage and data retrieval information.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will have a combination of education and experience that will provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the tasks of the position. 

  • At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid California Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

Ability to use standard office equipment, including a computer; sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, twist, and maintain sustained posture in a seated or standing position for prolonged periods of time; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone; lift from the ground and carry 60 pounds; move several boxes via hand truck or cart. Travel to different sites and locations; drive safe driving records; maintain a clean and neat appearance
