THE POSITION
Performs a variety of semi-skilled and routine electrical construction, maintenance, repair and testing work.
The purpose of this recruitment is to hire a Temporary / Part-Time position. Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications for the Electrician’s Assistant position may be considered for employment as an Intern. Temporary / Part-Time employees work no more than 130 hours per month AND 960 hours per fiscal year. Typical work schedule will be three 8-hour shifts per week, excluding weekends and evenings.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Repair, replace and perform routine scheduled maintenance on streetlights, traffic signals and other City-owned property. Assist with maintenance and repair of pumps, motors, electrical equipment, and other related equipment. Reads and interprets circuit diagrams, construction drawings, and service and repair manuals. Prepares plans and specifications for the procurement of parts and supplies on assigned projects. Ensures that proper safety precautions and safe work methods are followed. Prepares and maintains accurate maintenance and repair records. Uses and maintains a wide variety of electrical tools and test equipment. Regular and consistent attendance.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Perform electrical inspections. Read and review electrical prints and diagrams and modify and update as required. Answer emergency calls and perform emergency repairs. Perform related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program in the electrical or instrumentation trade is highly desirable.
Experience: One (1) year of recent experience in electrical/ electronics/ instrumentation installation, maintenance or repair.
License and Certificates: Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required upon hire.

SALARY:
Electrician’s Assistant $28.40 – $36.24 per hour
Intern $17.00 – $21.00 per hour

BENEFITS
This position is Temporary / Part-Time, working no more than 130 hours per month and no more than 960 hours per Fiscal Year.
The pay cycle is bi-weekly. With the exception of worker's compensation coverage and sick leave accrual, no other benefits compensations are provided. Employees must contribute 1.45% of salary to Medicare and 7.5% to a retirement plan in accordance with Federal Law.
