THE POSITION
To assist in Wastewater Plant operations and maintenance involving plant process and control, preventative maintenance to include equipment repairs, laboratory procedures. The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy at the Water Pollution Control Facility, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

The successful candidate will be adaptable, safety-conscious, and capable of managing multiple responsibilities while maintaining a positive and professional approach to their work.
The Ideal Candidate will have an interest in wastewater treatment operations and mechanical systems, with the ability and willingness to learn the principles and practices involved in operating and maintaining a water pollution control facility. A strong commitment to ongoing training, professional development, and obtaining required certifications through the California State Water Resources Control Board is essential. Candidates with experience working around mechanical equipment, performing routine maintenance, monitoring treatment processes, or supporting wastewater treatment operations are highly desirable.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Assist in the operation of the Water Pollution Control Facility to ensure compliance with State regulations. Interpret alarms, meters, gauges, SCADA system and test results to determine process and control criteria. Perform routine maintenance and repair work on pumps, valves, Ultraviolet Disinfection equipment and filtration equipment. Participate in ongoing preventative maintenance program and accurately maintain and compile records and reports. Work weekends and holidays as assigned. Regular and consistent attendance required.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Follow all safety precautions and regulations. Serve in a stand-by status after regular working hours and respond to emergency callouts. Perform related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Water Pollution Control Operator-in-Training
Education: High School diploma or equivalent, supplemented by training or coursework in the areas of chemistry, biology or related wastewater operations.
Experience: One (1) year of experience in handling mechanical equipment and tools.
License or Certificate: Required upon hire, possession of a valid California Driver's license. Must obtain an Operator-in-Training certificate, issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board within two (2) months of appointment to this classification.
Possession of a Grade I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators certificate, issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board is required within two (2) years of employment.
Water Pollution Control Operator I
Education: High School diploma or equivalent, supplemented by training or coursework in the areas of chemistry, biology or related wastewater operations.
Experience: One (1) year of experience in the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant and/or related facilities or programs.
License or Certificate: Required upon hire, possession of a valid California Driver's license. Possession of a current Grade I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators certificate, issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board.
