THE POSITION

To perform a variety of tasks in the maintenance of City-owned buildings, equipment and facilities.  The purpose of the recruitment is to fill a current vacancy at the Woodland Community & Senior Center (primary duties focus on event setups and janitorial duties/oversight), as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate will be willing and able to work a Monday through Friday (1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.) schedule.  In addition, they may need to flex weekend duties as the need arises.  Candidate must be able to read and interpret daily, weekly, and monthly schedules.  The Ideal Candidate will have a good understanding of various technology, including computers and audio-visual (AV) equipment. Ideal Candidate will be able to troubleshoot a wide variety of building systems and think outside the box to find solutions This position requires a “team player” with good interpersonal, time management, problem solving, customer service and communication skills.  Ideal Candidate will have a strong work ethic, be self-motivated and demonstrate a willingness to learn and grow into the position. Candidate must be able to follow directions and display good judgment, as well as be organized, flexible, approachable, resourceful and a positive team contributor and work independently.  Project management skills and proficiency working in a Maintenance Management System is highly desirable.  Successful candidates may also have to respond to after-hours emergencies on short notice.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Maintain and repair City buildings, equipment and facilities by performing a variety of semi-skilled carpentry, plumbing, painting, heating/air conditioning, mechanical repair and electrical work as necessary.  Inspect City buildings to locate conditions indicating the need for repairs and maintenance; assist in establishing and implementing preventative maintenance programs.  Operate and maintain a variety of heavy tools and equipment, including small power and hand tools.  Work cooperatively with others.  Regular and consistent attendance. 

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Remodel and repair a variety of building components such as counters, tables, desks, bookshelves, cabinets, partitions, walls, windows and doors; boilers, water pumps, exhaust fans, compressors, and other water and sewage system plumbing as required.  Perform electrical work such as wiring and rewiring; replace switches, ballast and receptacles as required.  Prepare simple activity and related reports; maintain inventory and work records as required.  Requisition supplies and materials.  Perform general janitorial duties as needed.  Perform other facility maintenance duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent.

 

Experience:

Facility Maintenance Worker I:  Six (6) months of work experience in carpentry, electrical and maintenance work is desirable.

 

Facility Maintenance Worker II:  One (1) year of experience performing duties comparable to those of a Facility Maintenance Worker I.

 

License and Certificate:   Required upon hire, possession of a valid California Driver’s License.

SALARY

Facility Maintenance Worker I
$4,039.76 - $5,155.87 /month

$1,864.50 - $2,379.63 /bi-weekly

 

Facility Maintenance Worker II
$4,684.88 - $5,979.23 /month

$2,162.25 - $2,759.64 /biweekly

 

BENEFITS

Retirement:                          

CalPERS Retirement System (2 % @ 60 formula for Classic CalPERS members and 2% @ 62 formula for new CalPERS members).  The City does not participate in social security

Deferred Comp:                   

Choice of deferred compensation plans (Traditional and Roth), After successful completion of probation, new hires are eligible for a 2% City contribution.

Medical:                                

CalPERS Medical Insurance Plans, including HMOs and PPOs. City gives an allowance toward the cost of insurance. Maximum Family Medical Allowance (2026): $2,463.99 per month

Dental/Vision:                      

City paid Delta Dental and VSP Vision Benefits

LTD/STD:                              

City paid wage protection for long/short term disabilities

Life Insurance:                    

City provides $50,000 life insurance policy

Supplemental Benefits:

Vacation:                              

6.7 hours per month during first three years of service

Holidays:                              

12.5 paid holidays (including two floating holidays)

8 hours per month

Bilingual Pay:                      

$200 per month upon certification

Prof. Growth Incentive:      

$625 per fiscal year for education or professional activities
