The Auburn Fire Department and Placer Hills Fire Protection District are partnering on a joint recruitment process for Firefighter.
Joint Testing Process: One Application
With one application you can test just once for a spot on both departments’ employment lists. Each department is establishing an employment list, which will be used to fill future vacancies as they arise. To be considered for a specific department’s list, you must meet its minimum qualifications. You can be placed on one list, or both.

Recruitment Process
Interested candidates may submit their applications no later than October 31st. The joint process is tentatively scheduled for week of November 16th.
We'll select the most qualified candidates based on their skills and experience, as they match each departments' needs. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee an invite to the process. The joint process will include oral board interviews, and may include other relevant assessments such as department-specific Chief's interviews.
The selected candidate must pass a pre-employment process including a comprehensive background investigation, live scan, physical, and may include other related checks such as psychological evaluation.

To be considered for this process, candidates must meet the following requirements:
Department Requirements:
- Both the AFD and PHFD have department-specific minimum requirements. Candidates will need to meet the qualifications for at least one department to be considered. See each department's job flyer with the full details of their minimum requirements.
Firefighter Candidate Testing Center (FCTC) Statewide Eligibility List:
- All candidates must be current on the Statewide Eligibility List as of October 31, 2025 with a CPAT and passing FCTC Written test dated on or after October 1, 2024.
