Danville Poet Laureate
The Town Council created the Poet Laureate position in September 2008 to serve as a public advocate for the appreciation and advancement of the literary arts, particularly poetry, reading poetry for civic events and dedications.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Poet Laureate include the following:
(a) create and read poetry for civic events and activities, as invited by the Town Council;
(b) serve as a liaison between the Arts Commission and local literary organizations; and,
(c) act as a resource on the topic of poetry.
Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following qualifications: Danville resident; age 18 or older; author of published poetry or willingness to publish poetry during the term, if selected; and, affiliation with literary organizations is preferred, but not required.
Term of Office
The term of office of the Poet Laureate is two (2) years, unless otherwise determined by the Town Council.
Compensation
The Poet Laureate does not receive compensation for their services or attendance at meetings and events.
Residency Requirement
The Poet Laureate must be a resident of the Town of Danville.
