Description
The City of Dixon is recruiting for one (1) full-time position of Utilities Maintenance Worker I/II for the Collections division. This position performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks related to the construction, maintenance, and repair of utilities, including the sanitary sewer system and the storm water system; to operate light and moderately heavy power-driven equipment; to perform related duties assigned.
Utilities Maintenance Worker I: This is the entry level class in the Utilites Maintenance Worker series.
Utilites Maintenance Worker II: This is the journey level class in the Utilities Worker series.
The most qualified candidates whose applications indicate that they, among those competing, are better qualified in terms of related training and experience will be considered to participate in an interview process.
EXAM PROCESS: A limited number of candidates whose applications indicate that they, among those competing, are better qualified in terms of related education, training and experience will be invited to participate in a written exam (pass/fail) and candidates who pass the written exam will be invited for an interview. Note: The examination process may be change as deemed necessary.
EMPLOYMENT PROCESSING: Candidates selected for hire are subject to pre-employment drug testing, fingerprinting, and must successfully complete and pass a pre-employment medical examination, and in accordance with Federal law, are to provide proof of identity and proof that they may legally work in the United States. A 12-month probation period will be served.
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS will be applied. A copy of the DD214 form must be filed at the time of application.

Ideal Candidate
KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of uses and purposes of general construction and maintenance tools, materials and equipment; safe working practices; methods, techniques, tools and operation of mechanical equipment used in the construction and maintenance of sanitary sewer systems and storm water system; reporting requirements, spill reporting procedures; principles of maintaining a variety of mechanical and electrical equipment.
Ability to learn to perform unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in a variety of utility construction and maintenance activities; perform heavy manual labor; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying.
Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Experience for Utilities Maintenance Worker I: One year of construction, maintenance or repair experience in underground facilities or general construction.
Experience for Utilities Maintenance Worker II: Two years of increasingly responsible experience equivalent to Utilities Maintenance Worker I or Maintenance Worker I in the City of Dixon.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Class C California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.
Possession of, or the ability to obtain within 6 months of assignment, a Class B or A California Driver's License with a tank and air brake endorsements.
Possession, or ability to obtain within 6 months of assignment, a valid California Water Environment Association (CWEA) Collections System Maintenance Grade 1 certificate.
May require possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Department of Pesticide Regulations (DPR), Qualified Applicator Certificate, as designed by management.
The maintenance of valid licenses and certificates, if required of the position by management, is a condition of continued employment.
Benefits
Full-Time Permanent Employees in this classification are represented by Public Employees Union, Local One. This contract is currently in negotiations, salary and benefits may be subject to change.
BENEFIT INFORMATION
CalPERS TIER DEFINITIONS - MOU INTERPRETATION OF CALPERS TIERS
CalPERS Annuitants will be limited to only 960 hours in a fiscal year and this position is full-time.
Retirement: CalPERS Retirement System (2% @ 60 formula for Classic CalPERS members and 2% @ 62 formula for new CalPERS members; Classic members shall contribute five percent (5%) towards the employer share of PERS contributions). The City does not participate in social security.
Medical: CalPERS Medical Insurance Plans, including HMOs and PPOs. City gives an allowance toward the cost of insurance. Maximum Family Medical Benefit Allowance (2025): $2,025 per month.
Bilingual Pay: $100 per month upon certification.
