The City of Sunnyvale is seeking an effective and skilled communicator, and highly motivated problem solver for the position of Principal Transportation Engineer/Planner.  This management position reports directly to the Transportation and Traffic Manager in the Public Works Department and will be responsible for:  assisting with planning, organizing and coordinating the activities of the Division of Transportation and Traffic; and perform professional traffic engineering, transportation planning, designing, and project management.

 

This position will supervise a small team within the Division to accomplish specific tasks and high-level, community-oriented projects. Current projects include: East Channel Trail study; Mary Avenue Overcrossing over highways 101 and 237; Bernardo Avenue railroad undercrossing; Sunnyvale Avenue and Mary Avenue railroad grade separations, liaison with the County for the Lawrence Grade Separation project; and coordinating with VTA as part of the delivering Measure B transportation projects. The position will manage multiple consultant contracts and will be expected to coordinate and work closely with other staff within the Division and with staff within other departments such as Public Works, Community Development, Environmental Services, and Public Safety, and represent the City with outside agencies such as the Valley Transportation Authority, Caltrain, High Speed Rail, Caltrans, MTC, County of Santa Clara, and adjacent cities.

 

The position will focus on advancing the projects mentioned above, assist with oversight of the design and traffic signal operations, implementation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS); assist with the coordination of Division of Transportation and Traffic activities with other divisions and departments; oversee and assist with oversight of the grant application preparation, reporting, and management for transportation projects; assist with planning and coordinating division workload and budgets; creating and sustaining cooperative and collaborative working relationships across the City, with the development community, and residents; attend and present at public meetings/City Commissions; and provide assistance with highly complex traffic engineering work. We therefore, are looking for a candidate with strong analytical, technical and problem solving skills, who can prioritize and deliver results in a constantly changing environment, effectively communicate to various types of interested parties, and has the proven ability to establish effective working relationships with customers, co-workers, and vendors.

The Mayor and Council office is a division of the City Manager’s Office. The Executive Assistant is an executive-level support position responsible for interacting effectively with the public, elected officials, City management and key department staff. Overview:

We are seeking a Water Plant Operator to join Valley Water’s South Treatment Operations Unit. This position will perform the duties of a state-designated shift operator in the monitoring and operation of a water treatment plant, to provide relief operations shift coverage and, as necessary, to perform the duties of an Assistant Water Plant Operator. The Water Plant Operator will use the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to monitor and control plant operations. They will be responsible for analyzing data to ensure compliance with all State and Federal drinking water standards and performing administrative procedures. The Water Plant Operator will train and sign-off training checklists for lower-level operations staff. They will perform scheduled and emergency plant shutdowns and start-ups. Additionally, they will complete safety trainings and follow safety protocols.

This role is offered on a limited-term basis and is currently budgeted through June 30, 2027.  It is possible that the position will be extended beyond this date, but that will not be known until the Spring of 2027.  This position offers a meaningful opportunity to help uphold community standards and ensure compliant neighborhoods. The Code Enforcement Officer will respond to citizen concerns and proactively identify violations such as property maintenance issues, and zoning infractions. You will educate the public on code requirements through clear and respectful communication and work collaboratively with other city departments and external agencies to resolve issues. The Code Enforcement Officer is distinguished from the Supervisor by performing work of moderate difficulty and more routine tasks and duties assigned to this position within this classification series. These tasks involve inspections and enforcement of applicable ordinances pertaining to residential and commercial properties, housing, building construction, and other related regulations. Additionally, the Code Enforcement Officer will issue notices, citations, and follow up on compliance efforts in a fair and consistent manner. It is also imperative that the Code Enforcement Officer maintain accurate case files and documentation for possible legal proceedings.

FIRST YEAR PROJECTS/ASSIGNMENTS:

• Learn and understand the City of Gilroy code enforcement processes and help solve problems to foster community pride. 
• Engage in real-world code enforcement assignments by working on active cases and assisting in clearing the backlog to ensure safe and well-maintained neighborhoods.
• Participate in specialized training and obtain certifications to enhance your expertise and knowledge of code enforcement.
