The PTCO position in the DOT Parking Compliance Unit is responsible for:

• Patrolling assigned areas within the City limits and responding to complaints for illegally parked motor vehicles for the purpose of enforcing motor vehicle, roadway, garage and surface lot parking laws and regulations.
• Supports school safety and vehicle abatement programs
• Provides tow support for construction or street maintenance projects. 
• Provides vehicular and pedestrian traffic control during construction projects and special events within the City.

What You'll Do:

• Conduct cross-connection surveys and tests to identify potential cross-connections to the water system. 
• Monitor the provision of backflow prevention at user connections. 
• Provide technical supervision over maintenance staff performing backflow prevention assembly installation, repair, inspection, and testing.
• Inspect potable and recycled water systems to determine the existence of cross connections and recommend corrective actions as necessary.

The Essentials:

Cross-Connection Control Specialist

• Two years of experience in water system maintenance, equivalent to the responsibilities of a Water Utility Worker in the City of Mountain View
• Equivalent to completion of the 12th grade supplemented by approved courses of instruction in the theory, laws, regulations, and techniques of backflow prevention and/or cross-connection control.
• Possession of a valid California Class C driver’s license.
• Possession of an AWWA Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certificate and a California Water Resources Control Board Water Distribution Operator Grade 1 Certificate.  
• Possession of an AWWA Cross-Connection Control Specialist Certificate within one year of appointment.  

Bonus Points:

After School Program Technician I's work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist II. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19-29 hours per week.

The Toll Systems and Traffic Engineering Department is responsible for day-to-day operations, management and maintenance of VTA’s Silicon Valley Express Lanes Program.  The Department is also responsible for Transportation Technology (also known as Intelligent Transportation Systems), traffic engineering and traffic operations analysis for VTA. A key part of the Department’s Transportation Technology effort is to serve as the lead on Traffic Operations System (TOS) and ramp metering coordination with Caltrans.  The traffic engineering and traffic operations functions include leading VTA’s traffic and transportation engineering efforts with member agencies as part of VTA’s Congestion Management Program which includes running the Intelligent Transportation Systems Working Group and the Systems Operations and Management Working Group (which reports to the VTA Technical Advisory Committee).

Assistant Transportation Engineer
Definition
Under general supervision, an Assistant Transportation Engineer performs professional engineering duties in connection with the location, design, construction, maintenance, and operation of transportation systems and related projects.

Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the second professional transportation engineering level. Incumbents perform moderately complex assignments and exercise some latitude for independent judgment. Incumbents at this level may be assigned specific projects with minimal supervision. Additionally, incumbents may direct the work of lower level engineers, technicians, and others who assist in specific project assignments. Incumbents may occasionally lead smaller, short-term projects or studies of limited scope.

This class is distinguished from the entry level class of Junior Transportation Engineer in that incumbents of the latter class perform entry level professional engineering duties under close supervision.

Associate Transportation Engineer
Definition
Under direction, the Associate Transportation Engineer supervises and performs responsible professional, field and office engineering work in connection with the planning, design, construction, maintenance and operation of transportation systems and projects; and to participate in a variety of services and special studies requiring the application of professional knowledge and skills.

Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the journey-level class in the professional transportation engineer series. Associate Transportation Engineers typically perform more difficult or complex engineering work, using independent judgment, and typically serve as the project lead, providing lead supervision to lower level professional and technical staff on a project basis.

The Associate Transportation Engineer is distinguished from the next higher level of Senior Transportation Engineer in that the latter class has full supervisory responsibility over staff and consultants of a major unit or program.

In addition to the duties below, the Assistant/Associate Engineer will have the opportunity to: 

• Manages contractors and/or solution providers to deploy transit signal priority (TSP) systems. This includes assigning and tracking work activities and schedules, as well as delegating tasks.
• Coordinates with local agency staff in charge of traffic signal systems in the deployment of TSP systems, including during the operations and maintenance phase to address identified operational issues and required maintenance.
• Participates in the development and selection process for requests for proposals (RFPs) for new or expansion of TSP systems, including request for bids (RFB) for constructing supporting elements such as the installation of new traffic signal controller cabinets.
• Participates in the development of system engineering management plan (SEMP) for TSP systems, including for work tasks in the deployment phase. During the deployment, participates in ensuring system requirements and procedures for the verification plan meet the highest quality standards.

The Department of Public Works (DPW) is currently seeking to fill one (1) Principal Engineer/Architect position in the City Facilities and Architectural Services (CFAS) Division. The Principal Engineer/Architect will support the Library Department (LD) in leading the coordination for the Library Facilities and Customer Experience Planning. This individual will play a key leadership role in driving critical infrastructure initiatives, including supporting the implementation of the California State Library Building Forward Infrastructure Grant projects and managing capital and facilities planning processes in collaboration with the LD and consultants. This individual will act as a leader, ensuring timely and effective project execution, and delivering results that meet organizational and state funding objectives.  

Reporting to the Deputy Director, the Principal Engineer/Architect will require the ability to extensively collaborate across the LD, the DPW, Planning, Building and Code Enforcement (PBCE) and other contractors/vendors, while maintaining adherence to budgets, timelines, and plans. Outstanding leadership, a high degree of accountability, and the ability to establish an excellent working relationship with all stakeholders are required to be successful in this position.  

Key Responsibilities 

• Lead the design and construction of major public works projects, in partnership with the Library Department.  

• Lead a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, architects, technicians, and inspectors to deliver high-quality, cost-effective, and consistent services. 

• Oversee engineering/architectural or other technical research; review, analyze, and prepare recommendations to Senior and Executive staff regarding project and/or program scope or objectives. 

• Direct and coordinate the preparation of cost estimates and project and/or program budgets; monitor budgets and schedules for performance. 

• Consult with Senior and Executive staff, contractors, other departments, and consultants to plan, design, and construct major engineering/architectural and/or other technical projects. 

• Direct and coordinate the creation, planning, and management of capital budgets and staffing plans to successfully deliver capital projects. 

• Oversee the planning and execution of the procurements of design consultants and construction contracts. 

• Partner with the department’s other executive staff to lead transformation, training, and other process improvement efforts in the City’s capital improvement program.

TEMPORARY LIBRARY SPECIALIST III, PART TIME

Note: Casual non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30). *Seasonal non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than six (6) consecutive months and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30). 
 
 The City of Sunnyvale is seeking to fill the positions of Temporary Library Specialist III. An energetic and highly motivated individual who possesses excellent customer service, technical and interpersonal skills is needed. 
 
 This classification provides clerical support for Library operations and programs by receiving and responding to patron questions, performing circulation duties, and performing duties related to the opening and closing of the Library. This classification differs from the lower-level classification of Library Specialist II in that the Library Specialist II performs the more routine duties.

Essential Job Functions:

(May include, but are not limited to, the following):

• Conducts transactions with the public and employees including the acceptance of payments or fees, registration of new library cards, checking library materials in and out using either manual or automated circulation systems, updating patron records, preparation of requisitions, and receiving reports, distribution of documents, data, or information.
• Provides information about library services, policies, and procedures to the public.
• Performs simple operations for updating or blocking certain fields in a patron's record and performs related work on the online system.
• Assists and trains patrons on the use of the Technology Center; troubleshoots public access computer issues; and responds to patron questions regarding computer usage.
• Uses the online system to search for library materials and patron information.
• Assists in receiving and resolving patron complaints and questions.
• Deletes and discards outdated and damaged library materials from circulation system.
• Processes and shelves holds and other library materials.
• Types documents and routine correspondence.
• Mends books, media and audiovisual library materials.
• Performs simple maintenance on library equipment and machines.

In addition to the duties above, employees may be assigned to one or more workgroups.
 
 If assigned to the Circulation work group, additional duties include:

• Provides first point of contact customer service to patrons in person and on the phone.
• Performs daily start-up and closing operations for the computerized circulation system including setting up and taking down self check-out machines, logging on and off computers and restocking the circulation desk.
• Delivers library materials to homebound residents and offsite locations.

If assigned to the Technical Services work group, additional duties include:

• Processes new library materials; applies labels and creates packaging; programs RFID tag, enters information into circulation system and organizes onto carts for processing.
• Corrects call number labels and barcodes; reviews and resolves issues related to media playability.
• Receives and processes receiving slips and invoices for payments.
• Maintains work group's processing manual.
• Develops, maintains, and archives a variety of files, fling systems, and records.
• Collects information from various sources and compiles data for reports.

WORKING CONDITIONS
 Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading reports and work related documents and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal customer service. The need to lift, drag and push files, paper, books, carts and documents weighing up to 50 pounds is also required. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodation.
 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience:
 
 The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:
 Graduation from high school or tested equivalent; AND,
 One year of clerical, customer service or library work experience.
 
Knowledge of:

Licenses/Certificates:
 Possession and continued maintenance of a valid class C California driver's license or the ability to provide alternative transportation as approved by the appointing authority and a safe driving record.
