The City of San Bruno Fire Department offers an exciting opportunity to serve as a Fire Cadet. Our one-year Fire Cadet program is an unpaid, volunteer work experience program that offers hands-on training, and introductory knowledge of firefighting skills, fire service tools and equipment. Cadets respond to emergency calls, render Basic Life Support and participate in training, and participate in the daily station duties.

Cadets must be willing to commit to 24-hour shifts, two to four times per month. The cadet program is one year in length. Upon completion, this program meets the manipulative training and experience requirements in obtaining a California State Fire Marshal’s Office Firefighter II certification.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• State of California EMT or National Registry EMT certification
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and a driving record with minimal violations
• Possession of a Firefighter I Academy certification (or proof of “student in good standing” letter signed by an Academy Instructor if currently enrolled)
• 18 years of age at the time of application

The Role:

The City of Redwood City is seeking Firefighter Trainees who, under immediate supervision, actively participate in the Firefighter Academy training program. Trainees perform all related learning and testing activities in preparation for the Firefighter/Engineer classification within the Fire Department of the City of Redwood City.  See Firefighter Trainee job description for more details. Environmental Compliance Inspector

The Environmental Services Department is currently looking to hire ONE regular full-time Environmental Compliance Inspector. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future Environmental Compliance Inspector vacancies as a regular or term-limited position.

The Environmental Services Department provides comprehensive and innovative environmental utility services for Sunnyvale's residents and businesses, and facilitates initiatives to achieve the City's sustainability objectives. The department brings together technical, operational, and administrative professional disciplines to form its dedicated and dynamic team.

These programs help protect our waterways and the San Francisco Bay by ensuring that businesses and residents are implementing best management practices to prevent water pollution and are in compliance with Federal and local water quality regulations. Environmental Compliance Inspectors work closely with a wide variety of businesses to ensure that the composition of their wastewater is in compliance with City requirements and does not compromise the integrity of the City's Water Pollution Control Plant or the sewer collection system. Such businesses range from aerospace and semiconductor manufacturers to dental offices and restaurants. The inspection team is also advancing multiple stormwater initiatives such as trash reduction and controls for pollutants of concern such as mercury and PCBs.

Under general direction, performs journey level inspection and enforcement activities on industrial, commercial, and residential discharges to the sewage and storm drain system for compliance with codes and laws regulating waste processes; and does other related work, as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Experience

The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, microbiology, environmental science, environmental or chemical engineering,  AND
 
One year of increasingly responsible experience in the collection and analysis of industrial or other wastewater/water samples, or one year of increasingly responsible experience in conducting environmental or regulatory inspections.

Licenses/Certificates

Possession at time of hire and continued maintenance of a valid Class C California driver's license and a safe driving record.

Salary:  $46.48 - $59.32 Hourly

The City of Sunnyvale is currently recruiting for an Accounting Manager to join the Finance Department. The Accounting Manager leads a team of 10.5 Full Time Equivalent positions and plans, organizes, directs and coordinates the activities of the accounting division which includes functions such as all aspects of accounting services, accounts payable, accounts receivable and debt and investment management. This position is also responsible for regulatory federal and state reporting, acts as the staff liaison with external auditors, leads the preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), and provides highly complex staff assistance to the Director of Finance.

The Position
Paralegals perform a wide range of complex legal support work, such as conducting legal research, preparing legal memoranda, motions and other documents, responding to discovery requests, corresponding with attorneys, and assisting attorneys in all aspects of case preparation. Incumbents may receive general direction regarding the scope and approach to projects or assignments, but procedures and techniques are discretionary, and incumbents are expected to possess the initiative to operate with a significant degree of independence.
  
The ideal candidate for this position will be able to handle several projects and assignments simultaneously, have experience with complex legal support work, strong oral and written communication skills, well developed computer skills, as well as proficiency with the full range of Microsoft products (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) in addition to legal case management software. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with office management, attorneys, support staff, and other County departments, and will be able to accept assignments outside of their prior work experience. The abilities to independently conduct legal research, use initiative, exercise sound judgment, set priorities and meet critical deadlines are also strongly desired. In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience in processes and procedures related to the field of criminal law.

• Review audio and video evidence and prepare summaries.
• Use LexisNexis, Evidence.com and other legal software platforms, and have familiarity with E-Filing (superior court and appellate levels).

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

• Completion of coursework leading to paralegal certification or completion of the first year of law school, or two years of increasingly responsible legal office experience including legal research and policies and procedures related to the specified field of law.

Knowledge of:

• Legal research techniques and standard legal reference materials.
• Processes and procedures related to criminal law.
• Legal office terminology, processes, procedures, and the format for legal documents.
• Record keeping, report preparation and filing methods.
• Correct English usage, including spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary.
• Office administrative practices and procedures, including filing, business letter writing and the operation of common office equipment, including a computer, scanner, and printer/copier.

Skill/Ability to:

• Perform legal research from varied sources.
• Communicate with individuals of various backgrounds.
• Prepare a variety of legal documents.
• Use initiative and sound independent judgment within established guidelines.
• Organize and maintain accurate records and files.
• Organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, and follow up on assignments.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships.

The Role:

The City of Redwood City is seeking Firefighters or Firefighter/Paramedics who, under direction of the Fire Captain, will perform firefighting and fire prevention duties aimed at protecting life and property, operate and maintain firefighting equipment, and provide basic medical assistance.  Firefighters also provide Basic Life Support first responder pre-hospital emergency medical care and emergency medical assistance, perform minor station maintenance, and participate in training to maintain skills.  Please see the Firefighter/Engineer job description for more details.

Required Qualifications:

A typical way to demonstrate the applicant possesses the required knowledge and ability may be obtained through the following ways:

1. Minimum of 30 semester college units.  Completion of college credits in the study of Fire Science or similar field.
2. High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D. or California Certificate of Proficiency).
3. Successful completion of a Firefighter 1 equivalent training program, or possession of a California State Fire Training Firefighter 1 certificate.

Required Certification and License:

The Department:

The Parks & Recreation Department is responsible for managing and maintaining the City's beautiful park system, recreation facilities, pools, and cemeteries and providing programs, services and activities that enhance residents’ lives and contribute to the health and wellness of the community. Recreation Coordinator, Performing Arts Unit, Community Recreation Center

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Requirements:

• A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a degree in Recreation, Recreation & Leisure Studies, Tourism, Leisure & Event Planning, Social Science, Kinesiology, or closely related field; and
• Two (2) years of full-time paid experience coordinating a recreation program, including the supervision of recreation leadership personnel.  These two (2) years may be a combination of full-time, part-time, or internship experience (2,000 hours of part-time and/or internship experience are equivalent to one (1) year of full-time work experience).

For Aquatics Program:

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in various aquatics programs and in aquatic environment emergency response.

Possible Substitution for Education:

• Graduation from high school or possession of a G.E.D. and five (5) years of additional paid full-time experience in the supervision of recreation personnel in a public recreation setting may be substituted for the college graduation requirement.

Desirable Qualifications:

• Experience with program budgeting and program marketing is highly desirable; and
• Experience using recreation registration software program is desirable.

LICENSE(S) AND/OR CERTIFICATION(S)

• Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment and for the duration of employment; and
• CPR and First Aid is required within six (6) months of appointment and for the duration of employment.

For Aquatics Program:

• Title 22 First Aid and CPR certification are required at the time of appointment and for the duration of employment; and
• Lifeguard Training Certificate and Lifeguard Training Instructor Certificate are required at the time of appointment and for the duration of employment.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience with program budgeting and program marketing is highly desirable;
• Experience using recreation registration software program is desirable; and
• When assigned to the Aquatics Program, Water Safety Instructor Certifications or other recognized Swim Lesson Instruction Certification is desirable. 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• May be required to work evening shifts, weekends, and unusual hours to meet program and event requirements; and
• Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Recreation Coordinator is an advanced journey level classification responsible for coordinating programs for a specified recreation program or recreation facility. Incumbents regularly work on complex tasks that require discretion and independent judgement. Assignments are given with general guidelines and incumbents are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines, and methods to deliver services. The Recreation Coordinator differs from the lateral classification of Recreation Coordinator - Therapeutics in that the lateral classification specializes in therapeutics programs, whereas, the Recreation Coordinator performs general recreation work. The Recreation Coordinator is distinguished from the higher-level classification of Recreation Supervisor in that the later primarily performs supervisory functions over recreation programs, facilities, events, and/or parks and supervises full-time personnel.

The Management Analyst I/II is responsible for the coordination and preparation of Midpen’s annual budget, Measure AA Bond Annual Accountability Report, and year-end budget review; monitoring, reporting, researching, and estimating both current and future expenditures, variances, and budget performance; recommending financial corrective and improvement measures; tracking the annual budget; providing budget support to other departments; developing and preparing financial reports; performing professional financial/trends analysis and forecasting to understand short-term and long-term impacts of potential actions; and assisting with special projects. The successful candidate is detail-oriented and can also pivot to a broader perspective; has a proven ability to build positive and productive relationships; possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills; and provides excellent customer service.  Flexibility and the capacity to comfortably adapt to and manage change in an evolving workplace are a must.  General Microsoft Office Suite proficiency is required.

The Management Analyst I under supervision, performs most of the duties required of the position but is not expected to function at the same skill level required of a level II.

Budget & Analysis Management Analyst I Annual Pay Range:  $98,417-$122,882

The Management Analyst II is expected to perform the full range of duties as assigned, working independently and exercising a higher level of judgment and initiative. Receives occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise.

Work Environment:  This position is part of Administrative Services at Midpen’s office in Los Altos, California.  Midpen offers a hybrid office/telecommute work schedule for this position. This position reports to the Budget & Analysis Supervisor.

Education and Experience:  Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Management Analyst I: equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business administration, public administration, or a related field and one (1) year of responsible analytical experience.  Public sector experience is preferred.

Management Analyst II: equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business administration, public administration or a related field, and three (3) years of professional analytical experience. Public sector experience is preferred.

Licenses & Certifications Required:   Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.
