The City of Sebastopol is looking for a respectful, compassionate, empathetic Police Officer Trainee. The selected candidate must be currently enrolled or enrolled at a future date as a self-sponsored recruit in a certified Peace Officer Standards & Training Council (P.O.S.T.) Police Academy. The Police Officer Trainee is a non-sworn, training-level classification requiring no prior law enforcement experience. The incumbent performs a variety of entry-level police support duties in a learning capacity. The selected candidate will assist and observe Police Officers and civilian police personnel.

The successful candidate will attend the Police Academy to obtain a Basic P.O.S.T. Certificate of Completion, and perform related work which may require public contact but not the enforcement of laws. Police Officer Trainees attend a POST certified Police Academy, which follows a standardized curriculum in order to provide them with basic training in various aspects of policing, many of which are prescribed by law and/or statute.

The Police Academy training is designed to provide the candidate the necessary skillsets to prepare them for consideration for promotion to a probationary Police Officer position within the City and begin the Sebastopol Police Department’s Field Training Officer program. Attendance and successful completion of a Police Academy is a legal requirement to be hired as a Police Officer within the State of California and is a requirement for a City of Sebastopol Police Officer Trainee to be considered for promotion to probationary Police Officer with the City of Sebastopol.

The selected self-sponsored academy candidates will receive a conditional offer upon a qualified application and full hourly pay while attending the police academy.

These are seasonal positions, limited to 1,000 hours worked within a fiscal year (July 1 through June 30) that receive no City benefits.  Job training is anticipated to begin the week of June 23, 2025 and this assignment will run through September 30, 2025 at the latest.  Shifts will average 7.5 hours per day, 5 days per week.  This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience working for one of the finest departments in the State.

This position is fully funded through the Marin Wildfire Prevention Authority (MPWA) and will directly support the mission of wildfire preparedness and mitigation, and community safety.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Fire Department is seeking customer service and public safety focused individuals to join the wildfire mitigation team. Under supervision, inspectors will perform a variety of wildfire prevention duties with a focus on one-on-one education via property wildfire risk evaluations.  The Inspector’s efforts will support resident compliance with City and State Fire codes.

The customer-service oriented positions will support the City’s and Marin Wildfire Fire Prevention Authorities (MWPA)’s goals. The ideal candidate will be able to connect and inspire individual action among our diverse community by explaining complex concepts in easy-to-understand ways.  Inspectors will utilize tablets and other technology to document findings and interactions in the field.

Our highly qualified candidate will be able to work effectively in small teams or independently and clearly communicate wildfire safety-related information to residents from various backgrounds.  We are looking for people who have sound judgment and can communicate effectively with others.  They will need to be able to follow both verbal and written instructions, engage effectively with the public and work harmoniously with our team. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but are not limited to the following):    

• Perform defensible space inspections and wildfire risk evaluations in accordance with San Rafael Municipal Code 4.12.
• Investigates public and referred public agency complaints.
• Provide guidance to residents on suggested and required home hardening and defensible space strategies. 
• Provide residents with appropriate support resources and programs.
• Increase awareness, knowledge and actions implemented by individuals and communities to reduce human loss and property damage from wildfires.
• Collects, enters, maintains, and disseminates data pertaining to fire prevention; reconciles reports, files and records.
• Composes letters and reports based on field notes.
• Collect and input data and images into electronic devices.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Communicate clearly and respectfully to residents and stakeholders.
• Learn and apply City and State Fire Codes and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.
• Provide clear and concise written reports free of grammar and spelling errors.
• Utilize personal computers, tablets, and related software including the Microsoft Office Suite, mapping, and database tools.
• Independently conduct fire (defensible space) inspections.
• Apply technical knowledge and follow proper inspection techniques.
• Be self-motivated, work independently to complete assigned duties and responsibilities in a timely manner.
• Interpret and explain fire prevention services, policies and procedures.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with stake holders to ensure that assigned fire prevention coordination efforts are successful.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:

• In accordance with State legal requirements, applicants must be at least 18 years old by the application filing deadline.
• Graduation from high school or equivalent and any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities in qualifying.
• Must possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record.
• A background in customer service or public service.
• Ability to speak, write, and read Spanish is desired but not necessary.

DISASTER SERVICE WORKERS:

All City of San Rafael employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109).  Employment in the City requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect.  Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.

There is one (1) full-time, regular hire Senior Civil Engineer vacancy in the Engineering Division. 

Under direction, the Senior Civil Engineer, plans, manages, and coordinates the engineering program. Using broad parameters of departmental policy guidelines, this position exercises substantial initiative, judgment, and expertise to meet program and project outcomes. The Senior Civil Engineer creates the scope on large civil engineering projects with complex budgets and timelines, integrating numerous elements that significant stakeholder involvement and sensitivity. This position provides direction and mentorship to more junior staff and oversees both technical and administrative work performed by their staff and ensures that projects are completed efficiently and effectively for the public good. Signing bonus:

Hybrid schedule:
The Department of Public Works has embraced a hybrid work schedule that considers that some duties of this position may be performed remotely. THE POSITION

The Psychiatric Technician I/II will report to the Medication Support Team Supervisor and the Crisis & Medication Support Manager and work a 9/80 schedule.

Psychiatric Technician I: This is the entry-level classification in the Psychiatric Technician series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform routine medication monitoring, administration, and support, while learning Authority policies and procedures. 

Psychiatric Technician II: This is the journey-level classification in the Psychiatric Technician series. Positions at this level are distinguished from the Psychiatric Technician I by the performance of the full range of duties as assigned, working independently, and exercising judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Under the direction of clinical staff, provides medication management services to a caseload of clients in the office and in the field; ensures the proper acquisition and administration of medication.

• Provides education and training to clients, their families, and/or staff on the proper care and use of medications, including symptoms of, reactions to, or side effects of, specific medications; informs clients of the impact of abuse and/or misuse of medications.

• Conducts home/field visits to evaluate client’s physical environment and behavior such as anxiety, withdrawals, and behavioral health progression/regression.

• Takes and records measures of clients’ vital signs, physical condition, and behaviors; assists and observes clients self-dispense medication as prescribed by a psychiatrist and administers scheduled injections.
