Essential Knowledge:

Application/Examination

Open to All Candidates. This is an open recruitment welcoming external applicants. Current County of San Mateo and Superior Court employees with at least six months (1,040 hours) of continuous service will receive a five-point bonus on their final examination score. Responses to the supplemental questions are mandatory and must be submitted in addition to our regular employment application form. A resume will not be accepted as a substitute for the required employment application and supplemental questionnaire.

Selection Process: The examination process will consist of two parts: an application screening (weight: pass/fail) based on each candidate's application materials, and a panel interview (weight: 100%) for those applicants who pass the application screening. Due to competitive interest, we may use application screening or select candidates whose qualifications best match our needs based solely on application materials.

The Department of Public Works is currently seeking to fill one (1) Animal Health Technician (Full-Time) and multiple Animal Health Assistants and Animal Health Technicians (Part-time Unbenefited) positions in the Animal Care and Services (ACS) Division. The Animal Health Assistants/Technicians will be responsible for providing paraprofessional medical care and treatment to shelter animals.  

Key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:  

• Checking and monitoring the health of animals, as well as rendering first aid and emergency treatment. 

• Assisting shelter veterinarians in surgery, spay/neuter and other medical procedures. 

• Maintaining pharmaceutical and other medical supplies; cleaning of kennels/cages. 

• Feeding and caring for animals. 

• Humanely performing euthanasia, as required.  

These positions will be required to work weekends, holidays, nights and rotating shifts, respond to emergency animal services assignments during off-duty hours, and wear a uniform.

The City of Redwood City is seeking Firefighter Trainees who, under immediate supervision, actively participate in the Firefighter Academy training program.
