The Position

The Senior Landscape Architect will plan, supervise, and review the work of City Landscape Architect staff. The incumbent will: coordinate and oversee various landscape projects; perform professional landscape architect work in conjunction with the design and preparation of plans, specifications and cost estimates for the development and rehabilitation of parks, landscaped areas and street beautification projects; inspect and review the work of developers and consultants for conformance with plans, specifications, and City requirements; prepare and administer grants and give professional advice on landscape matters.

Examples of Job Duties

• Organize and oversee the landscape design and layout of parks, recreational areas, roadway medians and pedestrian ways.
• Plan, supervise, review, and evaluate the work of professional City and contract staff.
• Perform professional landscape architectural work including preparing landscape plans, coordinating master plan development, performing park planning, and preparing related specifications, contracts, and cost estimates.
• Recommend design direction on high-profile urban design of public and private projects that impact landscape design and urban projects within the City.

Under the direct supervision, performs a variety of difficult and complex professional officer and field engineering work; prepares plans, designs, and specifications for a variety of the Department of Public Works projects; reviews work prepared by outside consultants; prepares engineering reports; and performs related duties as assigned.

Full Time, Part Time, and/or Remote. Primary duty is to review and comment on plans, specifications, and estimates for capital improvement projects. Projects may include road, bridge, and airport improvements. Must live in California and possess a California Professional Civil Engineer License.

Under general supervision of the Chief Building/Fire Code Official or designee, performs complex and detailed inspections of structures for conformance to codes, ordinances, approved plans, calculations and specifications; reads and interprets construction drawings and specifications for compliance with codes, ordinances, energy and disabled access requirements; conducts investigations of suspected violations of the Municipal and Building codes, including code enforcement; may assist in training other Building Inspectors and providing direction to other technical and/or clerical staff, including temporary; employees. The Challenge

As a Police Officer your duties will typically include patrolling assigned areas; interacting with the public; conducting criminal investigations; enforcing laws; investigating collisions; preserving the peace and writing reports. You will be assigned to one of three shifts spanning the 24-hour day and these shifts will periodically change. In the Patrol Section you will work three 12 hour and 20-minute workdays and have four days off. If you are assigned to any other Section, you will work four 10-hour workdays with three days off. As your skills develop you may be assigned to investigations; community policing,; traffic; canine; bicycle patrol; Special Weapons and Tactics Team; narcotics; or school resource officer.

ABOUT THE POSITION
If you are passionate about ensuring quality and safety in engineering projects and want to make a real difference in the community, we have an excellent opportunity for you. The City of Gilroy is currently recruiting a full-time Engineering Technician/Inspector at level I or II or III (depending on experience and qualifications) for the Engineering Division of the Public Works Department. The position will support the engineering staff with technical tasks for public works improvements, public works projects, and land development projects, and will entail a mix of technician and inspection duties. The goal of the Engineering Division is to promote a better quality of life for those who live, work, and visit the city of Gilroy through the provision of efficient engineering services and the creation of orderly growth and development within the city.

EXAMPLES OF ONGOING PROJECTS

• Provide inspection support to various Capital Improvement Projects, to include water and wastewater projects. 
• Coordinate inspection efforts with consultants and outside agencies.
• Process and review various public works permits.
• Administer the Sidewalk Repair Program.

NOTE: To foster teamwork and collaboration in the department, organization-wide, and in the community, this full-time position works on-site/in-person. Remote work is not an available option. 

Position Summary

Under general supervision of the Director of Planning and Principal Planners, manages projects and performs work tasks to support the department’s work program, which includes service and operations planning, short- and long-range planning, facilities planning, and compliance reporting for all three of the District’s operating divisions.

This position advances the District’s business interests by analyzing complex operating conditions and recommending detailed changes, producing reports and planning studies, researching and interpreting relevant regulations, and meeting with internal staff and external stakeholders on a wide variety of topics. Work may require the use of specialized software, such as GIS and Hastus, and travel to District facilities and off-site meeting locations. May supervise and assign work to Associate Planner(s) and Planner(s) as directed.

Essential Responsibilities

• Research, compile, analyze, and interpret complex technical, demographic, economic, financial, and other statistical data for the development of transit plans and projects, such as the District's transit service plan, transit capital improvement program, and proposed bridge toll or transit fare changes.
• Monitor, forecast, and evaluate transit service performance and patterns of bridge traffic, parking, and transit service patronage and recommend changes where necessary.
• Prepare or supervise preparation of routine evaluations of the efficiency and effectiveness of bus and ferry routes, schedules, major transit facilities, and bus stops. Recommend specific improvements based on these evaluations.
• Prepare or oversee preparation of major compliance documents, including the Short-Range Transit Plan (SRTP), National Transit Database (NTD), Title VI, and other federal and state reports, including the organization of internal stakeholder meetings to provide input on these reports.
• Prepare official recommendations and informational reports for consideration by the public, the District’s Board of Directors, and technical staff of the District or other agencies and groups.
• Prepare or assist with verbal presentations to staff groups, public groups, and the boards of local municipalities and advise District personnel on matters related to interactions with these groups.
• Support and coordinate staff responsibilities regarding other internal and external coordination meetings as directed. May participate in public meetings and hearings.
• Act, when directed, as liaison between the District and other agencies on planning matters by reviewing outside reports, attending meetings, drafting correspondence, and providing technical information to public agencies and other transit groups.
• Develop and coordinate changes to the District’s routes and fares in the Clipper and Genfare systems.
• Provide staff support to the District’s public advisory committees, including attendance at off-site meetings and/or meetings that occur outside normal business hours.
• Formulate short- and long-range plans or recommendations on transit services; coordinate service planning, detour, and bus stop issues with local jurisdictions when needed.
• Study and research physical characteristics of areas served by Golden Gate Transit; assess conditions of roads and related features; determine the physical and operational feasibility of transit routes and bus stops.
• Assess feasibility of transit service changes and develop plans for implementation. May use Hastus scheduling software as appropriate.
• Analyze possible environmental impacts that could result from proposed service, operations, or pricing changes to the District’s transit or bridge operations.
• Obtain encroachment or other permits as necessary to address the District’s business needs.
• Perform bridge traffic or transit demand projections and studies based on available travel data, community surveys, U.S. census data, and development reports from cities served by the District.
• Conduct geographical and demographic analyses of existing and potential District customers using socioeconomic data from passenger or other market research surveys. May use geographic information system (GIS) software as appropriate.
• Develop, coordinate, and conduct bus and ferry passenger surveys; analyze data from those surveys and prepare related reports.
• Review environmental impact reports and statements and project plans within the Golden Gate Transit service area and assess potential impacts to the District’s operations.
• Support environmental reviews related to the District’s transit projects.
• Research and interpret applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations relating to transportation, planning, or environmental permit activities.
• May supervise and assign work to Associate Planner(s) and Planner(s) as directed.
• Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
• Know and follow health and safety rules and safe working practices applicable to the position.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

LICENSE & CERTIFICATION

- Possession of a valid California Class A Driver's license is required, or

- Possession of a valid California Class C license at the time of appointment and the ability to obtain a California Class A license within six months of employment

- Incumbents in this position are required to become rubber glove certified as a condition of holding the classification of Journey Lineworker within nine (9) months of appointment.
