ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department is looking for enthusiastic high school students to train and work within our After School Sports Program as a flag football, volleyball, or basketball official. On game days, youth referees will be partnered with experienced officials that will provide training and mentorship. Youth officials will typically work two days a week. Game days and times are Monday through Thursday, from 3:45pm-7pm.

Official’s shirt, whistle, and training resources are provided. All training is provided by the Silicon Valley Sports Officials Association. Training dates will vary based on sport and season and will include classroom and hands-on instruction.

Flag Football and Volleyball Training Season - APPLICATIONS DUE BY AUGUST 1

• Training - Mid-August – September
• League games begin the last week of September – second week of November

Basketball Training Season - APPLICATIONS DUE BY SEPTEMBER 15

• Training - Mid-September - November
• League Games begin the first week of December – third week of March

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department seeks motivated, self-driven individuals passionate about working with the public. The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Lifeguards for our fantastic swim lessons and aquatic programs at the Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center. We are looking for positive, patient, motivated, self-driven individuals that have a passion for working with children and wish to make a difference! Those that are successful in the application review will be invited to attend an in-person interview. Please note that this position requires you to work in an indoor aquatic environment subject to warm/humid temperatures.

The Recreation Leader, is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

The Camp Director is primarily responsible for general and/or specialty camps. The Camp Director is responsible for all aspects of camp planning and implementation of camp programming.

• Develop, schedule and supervise part-time staff and "Counselors in Training"

SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED

General supervision is provided by a coordinator or Recreation Supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be at least 18 years of age and one year experience in a recreation related field (or equivalent) or two years working experience as a leader in a recreation program or similar work experience (one year equals two full summers of program); preferable with school age children
• Possession of Class "C" California Driver's License and a good driving record (3 year, no points) from DMV
• Must have experience planning camp activities for school age children in a variety of settings (after school, child care and classroom experience may be substituted)
• Must have strong organizational skills and work independently and reliably complete tasks
• Must be able to work in changing climates (indoors and outdoors)
• Must be physical ability to load/unload, and carry bundles of supplies up to 25 lbs.
• Must have excellent written and oral communication skills

· Ability to requisition supplies and/or purchasing program supplies within City guidelines

• Must be able to establish and maintain productive relations and positive attitudes with coworkers to provide a positive experience for children and provide feedback for parents
