The Redwood City Police Department is currently accepting applications for Per-Diem COMMUNICATIONS DISPATCHERS.  Using a sophisticated Computer Aided Dispatch terminal, the Communications Dispatcher receives emergency calls from within the public requesting police, fire, medical, or other emergency service; determine priority, and dispatch police, fire, ambulance, or other emergency units as necessary and in accordance with established procedures. The City of Redwood City seeks a Landscape Maintenance Worker who will assist in the maintenance of parks and landscaped areas.  Under supervision, the incumbent will operate a variety of landscape maintenance equipment and will perform the following duties:

• Perform a wide variety of general grounds and facility maintenance work including raking leaves, cleaning walkways, removing debris, cleaning restrooms, and related work.
• Water, weed, prune, renovate, and fertilize shrubs, trees, flowerbeds, and landscaped areas.
• Complete turf care including mowing, thatching, fertilizing, plugging, spraying, and installation of new turf areas with both seed and sod.
• Prepare soil and plant flowerbeds, shrubs, trees and landscape areas, including staking, fertilizing and other necessary procedures.

The Position 

The San Bruno Police Department is recruiting for Public Safety Dispatchers. The San Bruno Police Department has a long-standing tradition of small-town service with big-city dedication to public safety.  Public Safety Dispatchers are responsible for public safety dispatch and related records management activities. This position operates on a 24-hour, 365 days per year basis, and may be assigned to either a day, swing, or graveyard shift on a regular, rotational basis that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.  Public Safety Dispatchers perform a wide range of duties involving radio, telephone, and computers, applying various procedures and codes. Dispatchers receive and transmit emergency and non-emergency telephone and radio traffic as well as process communication reports, records, and radio logs, while maintaining a high level of confidentiality.  Dispatchers may also support the Police Department by performing clerical tasks, training, assisting with fingerprinting, and being accountable for financial transactions.  This position is integral in supporting the goals and objectives of the City and Police Department.   

Essential Duties 

• Receives and transmits emergency telephone and radio traffic.   

• Maintains and processes a variety of communications reports, records and radio logs. 

• Operates a dispatch console, uses Computer Aided Dispatch (C.A.D.) System and other computer programs to process information and records. 

• Maintains a high level of confidentiality.

• May act as Records/Dispatcher Supervisor in their absence.

• Maintains various C.A.D and Record Management Files.

b) National Testing Network (NTN) Corrections REACT Exam: Passing scores accepted for this exam are Video Judgement Test 65% or higher; Reading 75% or higher; and Count 70% or higher. This examination is administered directly by the National Testing Network, and it may be taken virtually or in person at testing sites nationwide. IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT TESTING

PELLETB: Applicants can complete the PELLETB exam at the South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium. The areas covered by the test include spelling, vocabulary, clarity, reading and CLOZE (use contextual clues to complete a passage that contains missing words). Applicants are responsible for contacting South Bay Regional Public Safety Training Consortium and self-enrolling in the required written exam. National Testing Network (NTN) Corrections REACT Examination (Online option): Applicants can register with NTN and schedule for the written examination by visitingwww.nationaltestingnetwork.com, select “Find Jobs”, then select “Corrections Jobs” and sign up for [San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office]. You must take the examination first before applying. Candidates who have already completed the National Testing Network (NTN) examination may submit their results through NTN to our agency. The exam must have been taken within one year of your submitted application. Candidates must meet the minimum passing scores. Acceptance of NTN exam scores are subject to verification with National Testing Network.

 

Qualifications

Education and Experience: 
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying.

Education: 
A high school graduate or passing the General Education Development (GED) test or other high school equivalency test approved by CDE, or completion of at least 30 college units from an accredited or approved institution to apply.

Skill/Ability to:

Licensure/Certification:

• Possession of a Class C California driver license or equivalent.

• Refrain from using tobacco products at any time, for employees hired by the County after October 1, 2004.

The examination/selection process will consist of the steps detailed in order below.

Step 1:  Application Submission: All applicants are required to submit an online application to be considered. Responses to the supplemental questions and copies of required test scores must be submitted in addition to the regular employment application form. Applications submitted without the required attachments will be rejected.

 

Step 2:  Written Examination: Applicants for the Sheriff’s Correctional Officer have four options for meeting the written examination requirement – (a) submittal of a valid and passing T-Score on the POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) exam dated within the last 12 months prior to the date of application or (b) possession of a passing score on the National Testing Network (NTN) Corrections REACT Examination dated within the last 12 months prior to the date of application or (c) possession of a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation certification (CDCR) or possession of an Adult Corrections Officer Core completion certificate from a certified Standard and Training for Corrections (STC) academy from the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) or (d) possession of an associate’s degree or higher from an accredited U.S. college or university. 

 

Step 3:  Application Appraisal (weight: 100%): Applicants who meet the written examination requirement as outlined in Step 2 and meet the qualifications for the position will be placed on the eligible list for a period of six months. 

 

After placement on the eligible list, qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the following departmental process with The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office:
 

Oral Interview: Qualified candidates will be invited to participate in a panel interview with the Sheriff’s Office Professional Standards Bureau.

 

Physical Agility Exam: Qualified candidates will be invited to participate in a physical agility test which may include, but is not limited to, the following events: weight drag, obstacle course, fence/wall climb and 1.5 mile run completed in 15 minutes or less.
