Sausalito Parks and Recreation is Seeking Vibrant Skilled Recreation Leaders 

This recruitment is for spring, summer and fall events and activities beginning March 9th, such as Bocce and Volleyball Referee, Jazz and Blues, Fourth of July, Chili Cook-off, A Toast to Sausalito, Halloween and other fun classes, activities, and events. Ideal candidates will be available to referee Monday through Thursday each week and/or to staff events on Friday evenings from June through August and occasional Saturdays. 

Pay: $16.90 - $17.90/ Hr.

The City of Sausalito is recruiting part-time temporary help for the spring, summer, and fall seasons of recreation activities and City-wide events.  The first of these is the Bocce League referee.  

Bocce Referee
As a Sausalito Parks and Recreation Bocce Referee, you are responsible for set-up, management, and cleanup of scheduled Bocce matches. You are the enforcer of rules, an impartial judge, and an advocate for fun and fair play, all while maintaining a positive attitude and providing a friendly environment when communicating with teams and keeping score. This position reports directly to the Recreation Supervisor.  The ideal candidate must meet all minimum requirements as listed below and be confident and capable of dealing with conflict and intense games.  

Event Staff

As a Sausalito Parks and Recreation Event Staff member, you are responsible for actively participating in set-up, cleanup, and management of your assigned event.  You must arrive on time and remain until the event leader releases you after the event.   Event staff may set up chairs, tables, stages, corridors, and barriers.  You may be asked to perform traffic control or direct drivers to parking.  The ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude, meet all of the minimum requirements below, remain calm under pressure and in the face of adversity, be cheerful, friendly, and love the diversity of people. 

The minimum requirements for the position are:

• Reliable transportation to and from games or events
• Ability and commitment to arrive on time and remain until duties are completed and you are released
• Confidence and capability to manage conflict with grace and calm
• Commitment to long hours, days, evenings, or on weekends depending on the assigned event schedule
• Must be 14 years of age or older and must obtain a WORK PERMIT if under 18
• Able to work independently
• Excellent people skills
• Strong ability to follow directions
• Ability to lift and carry 25lbs

Summary:
Under general supervision, plan, conduct, and participate in recreational program activities according to established programs, schedules, and standards, in accordance with District policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Develop, conduct, and participate in various athletic, craft, social, cultural, and instructional activities
• Prepare facilities for programming, special events, or rental group usage
• Greet visitors, direct participants to the appropriate location, and respond to general inquiries
• Ensure safety of environment and equipment for staff, volunteers, participants, and visitors
• May open or close and secure facilities in compliance with District policies and procedures
• Issue and collect recreation equipment and supplies used by instructors, participants, or visitors
• Supervise special events, field trips, and other group activities

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• Coordinate and participate in promotional activities and community events
• Modify and adapt activities specific to specialized programs or populations, as appropriate
• May assist with transportation in specialized programs
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty* satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required:

Education and Experience:
Minimum age of 18 years old with a High School Diploma (or GED). At least 500 hours of experience in recreation with 15 units completed in recreation or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Certificates and Licenses:

• First Aid & CPR/AED within 90 days of employment with ability to maintain certifications thereafter as a condition of employment.
• Valid California driver’s license with a good driving record and current automobile insurance.
• Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.
• Proof of a negative TB skin test.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to communicate effectively in English in both written and oral form. Ability to write routine correspondence using correct spelling and grammar. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply common sense and exercise good judgement in solving problems. Ability to establish effective relationships with fellow employees, volunteers, and participants and/or parents/guardians.

THE POSITION: 

The City of San Rafael is recruiting for a Police Officer. This position performs a wide variety of peace officer duties involving the protection of life and property, enforcement of laws and ordinances, criminal investigation, crime prevention and suppression.  Police officers prepare cases and provide courtroom testimony, provide information and assistance to the public and perform special assignments in areas such as patrol, traffic, investigations and gang enforcement.  General supervision is provided by the Police Sergeant.  Responsibilities may include the direct supervision of officers in training and/or the indirect supervision of other officers and/or support staff.   

This position performs the following essential job duties:

• Patrols an assigned area in a radio car, on motorcycle or on foot to observe and report suspicious activities or hazardous conditions for the prevention and detection of crime; arrests law violators in accordance with applicable statutory and case laws.
• Answers routine and emergency calls for protection of life and property and the enforcement of City, County, State and Federal laws, codes and ordinances.
• Investigates crimes, accidents, deaths and disturbances; collects, preserves and presents evidence using scientific identification techniques; interviews, questions and/or takes statements from victims, witnesses and suspects and completes investigative reports.
• Directs traffic, including regulation of vehicle flow at emergency or congested places, stops drivers who are operating vehicles in violation of laws and issues citations or warnings as appropriate.
• Appears in court to present evidence and testimony in connection with criminal prosecution and/or civil cases; serves writs, warrants, subpoenas and other legal documents.
• Provides information and direction to the public; assists in developing community policing strategies; maintains effective public relations and makes public service appearances.

• Handles missing person cases; takes custody of runaway or delinquent juveniles; investigates child welfare cases involving potential mental, physical or sexual abuse.

Candidate must be high school graduate or its equivalent.  Completion of 45 semester (or equivalent quarter) units from an accredited college or university is preferred.  Prefer candidates with bilingual skills.

This is a non-sworn, civilian training classification to be used while incumbent is attending a certified P.O.S.T. Basic Police Academy.  Incumbent in this classification receives the same employee benefits as Police Officers, with the exception of being placed in the “Miscellaneous” retirement category until successful completion of a designated police academy, and as a civilian employee, will not be covered by government code sections 4850 and 3300 through 3311.  Upon successful completion of an academy, incumbent shall be sworn as a Police Officer, placed in the safety retirement category and begin an 18-month probationary period as a Police Officer on the date of swearing in. 

Education: 

• High school graduate or its equivalent. 
• Completion of 30 semester (or equivalent quarter) units from an accredited college or university preferred. 

Physical Capabilities/Vision:

• Must be capable of performing the full range of work assigned to a Police Officer free from physical, mental or emotional restrictions, which would adversely impact job performance. 
• All vision must be corrected to 20/20.
• Must be free from color blindness and have a normal field of vision.

Hearing:

• Normal hearing acuity.

Height/Weight: 

• Weight in proportion to height, age and frame.

Age: 

• Applicant must be 21 years of age minimum by completion of Police Academy.

Citizenship: 

• California Government Code Section 1031(a) requires that Police Officers be citizens of the United States.  California Government Code Section 1031.5 requires that permanent resident aliens who desire to be employed as Police Officers be eligible for and have applied for citizenship.

License:

• Possession of a valid California driver’s license issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Police Department is recruiting for a full-time, Police Communications Dispatcher.  This is a specialized police civilian classification and performs all duties required to effectively dispatch police services including operating police radio communication equipment to communicate with the public and police.  Receives, interprets, and transmits information essential to the delivery of emergency and non-emergency police services.

• Monitors local emergency services radio transmissions; maintains contact and monitors status of field units; monitors the county mutual aid channel.
• Responds to emergency phone lines, including calls to and from fire department, alarm companies, and tow companies.
• Prioritizes needs of difficult callers, including hysterical victims, incoherent persons and suicidal subjects; assesses and evaluates emergency situations.
• Enters calls for service information into the CAD system, including type, location, nature and description of event; enters all field unit transmissions.
• Enters information into automated systems, including temporary warrants, missing persons, property, stolen vehicles, domestic violence restraining orders and firearms; searches various databases and automated systems in response to information requests.
• Performs a variety of clerical duties, including photocopying, completing forms and maintaining records; receives and responds to document requests for warrants and DMV printouts.
• Operates a variety of specialized equipment related to dispatch work.
• Answers front office non-emergency lines after hours.
• Informs on-duty shift Sergeant of street activity and pending calls for service.
• May train and evaluate new employees.
• Performs related duties as required.

To be eligible for this position you must have knowledge of:

• CAD procedures
• Police dispatch radio and phone equipment
• City and Department policies and procedures
• Information technology, personal computers and related software applications
• City geography and beat structure
• Use of reference maps and code manuals
• Civil and criminal codes

• Operate a variety of police specific and general office equipment
• Accurately dispatch personnel and equipment
• Speak and think clearly in emergency situations
• Listen and ascertain relevant information quickly and accurately
• Understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions
• Deal tactfully and courteously with the public
• Classify and prioritize service requests
• Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with the public and fellow employees

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
• One (1) year experience in public safety work or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to speak effectively to the public and police personnel in emergency and high stress situations.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
