DEFINITION

Account Clerk I: Under supervision, perform clerical work of moderate difficulty in connection with preparing, maintaining or checking financial or statistical records; receive and receipt money; operate office accounting machines; do related work as required.

Cashier

The Cashier receives and receipts cash payments and maintains daily files of validated documents; balances transaction and prepares cash reports daily; does responsible clerical accounting work in maintaining financial records, recording and checking financial transactions, and preparing financial or statistical statements or reports; batch balances cash from various City entities; organizes money and sets up daily starting cash drawer; computer posts utility transactions as required; maintains the Petty Cash Fund; answers customer inquiries on account status using computer equipment; issues various parking permits and maintains related files; store, issues, and controls vehicle ignition keys for City pool cars, and records and reports mileage/usage; types routine documents; and assists with various Utility Billing Division activities as required.

 

Utility Billing Division

Either manually or through the use of computers, as appropriate, does responsible clerical accounting work in the maintenance of financial records, recording and checking financial transactions, and preparing financial or statistical statements or reports; interacts with residents through phone, email, and in person; receives and receipts money; prepares records to open, change, maintain or close utility accounts; performs routine arithmetical computations; opening, sorting, and processing mail; operates adding machines; does routine typing of documents and precise computer data entry of financial data.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Knowledge of: 

Account Clerk I level: Methods, principles, and terminology used in financial clerical work; and modern office practices.

Ability to:  

Perform clerical work of average difficulty; prepare basic financial reports, maintain journals, ledgers, and complex files; operate adding and calculating machines; perform arithmetic computations rapidly and accurately; interact positively and cooperate with co-workers, respond politely to customers, work as a team member, function under demanding time pressure, respond in a positive manner to supervision, and attend work and perform duties on a regular and consistent basis.

Experience:

Account Clerk I:  One year of clerical experience involving financial record keeping and general office work; six (6) months of experience using computer spreadsheets is desirable.

The City of Newark is seeking an experienced skateboarding instructor who can connect with participants of all ages, especially youth and teens. The Recreation Instructor will be responsible for the planning and implementation of skateboarding classes to be held at Mel Nunes Skatepark in Newark. Responsibilities include teaching fundamental techniques, promoting safety, and creating an encouraging environment where participants can build confidence and have fun while learning to skate.

REQUIREMENTS

THE POSITION
To perform a variety of tasks in the maintenance of City-owned buildings, equipment and facilities.

The purpose of this recruitment is to hire a Temporary / Part-Time position. Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications for the Facility Maintenance Worker I position may be considered for employment as an Intern. Temporary / Part-Time employees work no more than 130 hours per month AND 960 hours per fiscal year. Typical work schedule will be three 8-hour shifts per week, excluding weekends and evenings.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
This position will perform semi-skilled tasks in a variety of light construction and maintenance activities. The Ideal Candidate will be customer-friendly and be a solutions-oriented professional who is flexible in dealing with shifting priorities, have good time management skills, and possess the ability to work effectively in the absence of supervision.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Maintain and repair City buildings, equipment and facilities by performing a variety of semiskilled carpentry, plumbing,  painting, heating/air conditioning, mechanical repair and electrical work as necessary. Inspect City buildings to locate conditions indicating the need for repairs and maintenance; assist in establishing and implementing preventative maintenance programs. Operate and maintain a variety of heavy tools and equipment, including small power and hand tools. Work cooperatively with others. Regular and consistent attendance.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS
Remodel and repair a variety of building components such as counters, tables, desks, bookshelves, cabinets, partitions, walls, windows and doors; boilers, water pumps, exhaust fans, compressors, and other water and sewage system plumbing as required. Perform electrical work such as wiring and rewiring; replace switches, ballast and receptacles as required. BENEFITS

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Aquatic Instructors (Swim Instructors) for our fantastic swim lessons and aquatic programs, to work at the Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center. Occupational Therapist II is the experienced journey level class in this series. The San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division is seeking seasonal Election Worker - Candidate Service Office Assistant to assist in the upcoming November 5, 2024 Presidential General Election. This is an excellent nonpartisan opportunity to be involved in the election process!
 
We are currently seeking dedicated and hard-working individuals for temporary, full-time positions to be hired into our Candidate Services Unit. This position encompasses:
 
Clerical Support:

• Data Entry
• Preparing/Receiving Forms
• Filing Completed Forms
• Prepare, organize, and mail certification documents

 
Customer Service:

• Organize and schedule filing appointments with potential candidates
• Work in-person with candidates on filing papers
• General knowledge of deadlines/forms to assist candidates

The hourly wage for this position starts at $22.59. Overtime is expected. 
 
NOTE: This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Extra-help hours are dependent on the business needs of the department and therefore work hours may vary from week to week. Extra help employees shall not exceed 1,040 hours of work per fiscal year. Some extra help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment. 

 

Qualifications

Ideal Candidate Service Office Assistants will have a minimum of one year of general clerical, office assistant, phone services, or computer experience. At least one election cycles worth of experience in Candidate Filing is preferred as well.
 
Critical Skills include the ability to prioritize work, coordinate several activities organize, and maintain accurate files and records, and understand and carry out oral and written directions. As an Office Assistant it is also integral to have a positive attitude and demonstrate good leadership to assist other members of the team and help ensure day to day operations run smoothly.
 
Office hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. These positions may require weekend and evening work assignments. The selected individuals must be available for the entire employment period until the completion of their assignment.

The City of Newark is seeking an experienced water aerobics instructor with the ability to work with all ages, including but not limited to those over the age of 55. The Recreation Instructor will be responsible for the implementation and planning of water aerobics course to be held at the George M Silliman Community Activity Center.
