ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City, Public Works Department invites you to apply for the position of Management Analyst I.  This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional to provide highly responsible staff assistance in the preparation and administration of various contracts and agreements, as well as development, coordination and monitoring of various department budgets, grant proposals, reports and records maintenance.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to: assist the Public Works Superintendents and Director in tracking divisional workload and projects, helping prepare staff reports, monitoring the budget associated with existing projects; assist in the preparation, review, implementation and monitoring of various professional services contracts; work in conjunction with legal counsel to ensure that contracts are in  compliance with the City’s policy, local, state, and federal laws; ensure that contracts  are in compliance with agreed upon terms, fees, schedules and scope of work; generate and analyze data regarding cost-effectiveness and quality of services; analyze budget reports and forecasts; analyze revenue producing programs and make recommendations; assist in the preparation of Notice of Inviting Bids (NIB) and Requests for Proposals (RFPs); assist in the evaluation of proposals and make recommendations as appropriate; prepare purchasing and payment requisitions in accordance with agreed upon terms; evaluate the effectiveness of technology and make recommendations that will improve operational efficiencies; conduct research and analysis on best practices in the field of Public Works, and produce various written reports and recommendations. The Management Analyst I may serve as department liaison to various committees and associations for compliance of environmental and regulatory requirements.

Facilities Maintenance Technician II (journey-level class in the classification series)

Responsible for performing the full range of maintenance duties at City buildings and facilities in order to ensure that all are maintained in a safe and effective working condition and provide the highest level of safety for City and public use. Incumbents are responsible for performing maintenance and alterations on buildings and facilities, electrical and mechanical systems, identifying and evaluating construction-related problems, and performing installation and repairs on plumbing systems. Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative. Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This class is distinguished from Senior Facilities Maintenance Technician in that the latter is responsible for technical and functional supervision of lower level maintenance staff and is capable of performing the most complex duties assigned to the series.

Senior Facilities Maintenance Technician (advanced journey-level class in the classification series)

Responsible for providing lead supervision and training to facilities maintenance staff. Incumbents regularly work on tasks that are varied and complex, requiring considerable discretion and independent judgment, including performing the most complex duties required to ensure City buildings, facilities, and grounds are maintained in a safe and effective working condition and provide the highest level of safety for public use. Responsibilities include training, developing and scheduling Facilities Maintenance Technicians, inspecting and attending to assigned areas in a timely manner, and performing a wide variety of tasks in the maintenance and repair of City buildings, facilities and grounds. Positions in this classification rely on experience and judgment to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the assigned section. The work involves problem-solving of unique issues or increasingly complex problems without precedent and/or structure. Assignments are given with general guidelines and incumbents are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines, and methods to deliver work products.

Positions in the Facilities Maintenance Technician class series are flexibly staffed and positions are normally filled by advancement from the previous level; progression to the next level is subject to management approval and is dependent on the incumbent (i) performing the full range of duties assigned to their current level, and (ii) acquiring the knowledge, skill, and experience necessary to meet the minimum qualifications for the next level of the series.

The City of East Palo Alto is actively seeking motivated, compassionate, personable Police Recruits. The Police Recruit attends and successfully completes an approved Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified basic police academy training program; performs all related learning and testing activities; performs a variety of routine to complex field and administrative activities in support of police services and programs for the City’s Police Department; provides comprehensive non-sworn staff support to Police Department supervisory and management personnel on a wide variety of law enforcement programs, projects, and services; responds to public requests and performs related duties, as assigned.

General

The Senior Engineer, Railroad Structures reports to the Manager, Engineering Structures and Facilities, and is responsible for Caltrain corridor engineering, construction support of capital improvement projects, engineering design and maintenance support of facilities, including maintenance facilities and historical stations, project planning support, and design studies support for railroad structures including railroad stations, and railroad facilities for the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (Caltrain).

Essential Functions & Duties

Examples of Essential Functions:

• · Provide engineering architectural and design support related to design review, renovations, structural improvements and repairs for Rail Operations, Capital Projects, Construction Management, and other Caltrain departments.

• · Works closely with key stakeholders internally and externally to maintain railroad facilities, structures, tracks, tunnels and bridges (civil/structural).

• · Review and perform capacity calculations on railway structures, design reviews and capital improvement projects to protect the integrity of the railroad structures, including historical preservation and to ensure technical requirements are met.

• · Oversee projects to be performed by outside agencies (3rd party projects) working on Caltrain property.

• · Participate in capital project development studies including consultant negotiations, estimating, and scheduling.

• · Identify root causes of engineering structural issues and present appropriate solutions.

Examples of Essential Duties:

• · Review engineering design project documents including plans, specifications, calculations, cost estimates, project schedules, and constructability review reports.

• · Review project design documents, interface with Caltrain Operations, monitor construction progress, and inspect construction fieldwork.

• · Assist in monitoring and directing the railroad maintenance contractor for Caltrain structures.

• · Perform on-site and routine inspection required by FRA, provide analysis and condition assessment of existing railroad structures.

• · Monitor third party vendors on capital projects to protect the Agency’s infrastructure and operational interests.

• · Provide responsible and professional staff assistance to higher level management on projects and related matters.

• · Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect one’s self, fellow employees, and the public from injury or harm. Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures in an effort to reduce or eliminate accidents.

• · Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Sufficient experience, training and/or education to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. In lieu of a degree, work-related experience that demonstrates the skills and experience necessary to perform this role will be accepted. Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to:

• · Bachelor’s degree in structural or civil engineering, or another related field.

• · Four (4) years of progressively increasing responsibility in structural engineering.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:  Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Additional specialized training in communications or a related field is desirable. 

Experience: Some emergency or non-emergency dispatch experience is desirable. 

License/Certificates: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Terminal Operator Certificate within one year of employment.

At a 24 hour a day police dispatch center, you will be using a sophisticated Computer Aided Dispatch terminal. A Communications Dispatcher receives emergency calls from the public requesting police, fire, medical, or other emergency service; determine priority, and dispatch police, or other emergency units as necessary and in accordance with established procedures. 

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Maintaining contact with all units on assignment and maintaining status and location of police field units.
• Coordinating emergency calls (911) and relaying information and assistance requests involving other agencies.
• Entering, updating, and retrieving information from networks relating to wanted persons, stolen property, vehicle registration, stolen vehicles and other information.
