The City of Berkeley is now accepting applications for Assistant Inspector in the Building & Safety Division of the Planning Department! This is a temporary, two-year position with an option for a third year upon approval by the Building Official, once certain criteria and milestones are met during the initial two years.

The Assistant Inspector will learn, in phases, every aspect of the building inspection process under the tutelage of the Building Inspection Section and Permit Service Center staff. This training will include learning and understanding the building permit review and issuance process, gaining and cultivating good customer service skills, studying and learning how to enforce the California and City of Berkeley Building Standards Codes, and acquiring proper building inspection techniques.

Upon approval from the Building Official, the Assistant Inspector will have the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills by performing inspections in the field throughout the City of Berkeley as allowed by State regulations and under the guidance of a Building Inspector as assigned. These inspections will gradually increase in scope and difficulty as new skills and knowledge are acquired and confidence grows. It is expected that the Assistant Inspector will acquire an ICC Residential Building Inspector (ICC B1) certification by the end of year one and an ICC Commercial Building Inspector (ICC B2) certification by the end of the two-year position. At the end of the term and upon Building Official approval, the Assistant Inspector will have the option of promoting into the role of Building Inspector I (certified).

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from high school and:

1. Two years of full-time paid experience in one of the following: 
   • Building, civil, or architectural design drafting;
   • Building, housing, or home inspection;
   • Code enforcement;
   • Permit processing;
   • Performing carpentry, electrical, heating and refrigeration, plumbing, or similar work; OR
2. Three years of full-time experience in support of building inspections, housing inspections, or code enforcement; OR
3. Completion of two years of education in a recognized college or university with completion of 12 semester or 16 quarter units in any of the following or similar areas: civil or structural engineering, construction technology, design, inspection technology, architectural drafting, mechanical or, electrical engineering.

Other requirements: Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet the program needs and to fulfill job responsibilities. When driving on city business, the incumbent is required to maintain a valid California driver's license as well as a satisfactory driving record.

The City of East Palo Alto is seeking qualified candidates for a Building Inspector I/II. We are seeking an innovative and proactive Building Official with a positive, forward-thinking perspective. The Building Official will manage all building division functions (building permit issuance, plan check, and building inspections). The position reports to the Community Development Director. THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Fire Department is seeking customer service and public safety focused individuals to join the wildfire mitigation team. Under supervision, inspectors will perform a variety of wildfire prevention duties with a focus on one-on-one education via property wildfire risk evaluations.  The Inspector’s efforts will support resident compliance with City and State Fire codes.

The customer-service oriented positions will support the City’s and Marin Wildfire Fire Prevention Authorities (MWPA)’s goals. The ideal candidate will be able to connect and inspire individual action among our diverse community by explaining complex concepts in easy-to-understand ways.  Inspectors will utilize tablets and other technology to document findings and interactions in the field.

• Increase awareness, knowledge and actions implemented by individuals and communities to reduce human loss and property damage from wildfires.
• Collects, enters, maintains, and disseminates data pertaining to fire prevention; reconciles reports, files and records.
• Composes letters and reports based on field notes.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

• Communicate clearly and respectfully to residents and stakeholders.
• Learn and apply City and State Fire Codes and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.
• Provide clear and concise written reports free of grammar and spelling errors.

The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for Extra Help-Cook within the Yuba County Jail. Under close supervision, prepares and provides institutional meals following federal and state nutritional guidelines, and performs other duties as assigned.  Yuba County staffs the Cook classification at the County Jail division in the Sheriff’s department  This position performs a full range of tasks associated with the preparation and distribution of meals to juvenile detainees and adult inmates.  The incumbent ensures that properly prepared nutritional meals are produced in a large volume, institutional setting.  Responsibilities also include overseeing detainees and/or inmates and institution workers assisting with food preparation.

The Yuba County Sheriff's Department is responsible for the administration of the Yuba County Jail and Jail staff.   The Mission of the Yuba County Jail is to provide safe, efficient, humane and secure custody of all persons incarcerated.  The county prisoner population is made up of those who are sentenced to county jail, those serving state prison sentences in the county jail under AB109, and those who are pre-trial and who have not yet been sentenced. The jail provides a necessary link in the criminal justice system. The Vocational Rehabilitation Services (VRS) team of the Human Services Agency (HSA) of San Mateo County is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Rehabilitation Production Supervisor I/II. This current vacancy is a permanent position assigned in Catering Connection and/or the WorkCenter program. The position is a shared assignment and will be scheduled weekly to work in Catering Connection and/or the WorkCenter.
