The Procurement Division of the County Executive’s Office is seeking well-qualified candidates for the position of Buyer II. Under general supervision, a Buyer II provides a full range of detailed and complex procurement services for all county departments.

 

Examples of Duties:
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Receive, review, and check purchase requisitions to determine needs of departments, market conditions, and product availability. 
• Consult and assist departments with product selection and procurement methods.
• Invite and accept bids, and evaluate prices, discounts, and delivery conditions. 
• Assist departments in the preparation of product specifications and contracts. 
• Analyze bids for conformance to specifications and award bids. 
• Interview with sales and manufacturers' representatives about products and services.

The ability to provide excellent customer service, engage in active listening to understand customer needs, and connect quickly with County personnel are critical to success in this position.

There are several other competencies, including technical, interpersonal, analytical, and organizational, which will be important for success in this role.

Procurement Expertise – In-depth knowledge of large-scale procurement practices and public agency procurement principles and familiarity with federal and state laws and regulations affecting procurement.

Qualifications:

Any combination of experiences that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.  

• A typical way to qualify at the Buyer II level might be three years of experience that would demonstrate knowledge and command of complex commodity areas, and the principles, policies, and procedures of public agency procurement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A master's degree in public administration, financial management or accounting is highly desirable and may be substituted for one (1) year of the professional-technical experience. The City of Berkeley is seeking PE-licensed candidates who are passionate about improving infrastructure for a more sustainable and resilient city. As an Associate Civil Engineer, you'll have the opportunity to apply your engineering knowledge and experience toward the creation and maintenance of state-of-the-art infrastructure, amenities, and facilities. 

When assigned to Public Works, the Associate Civil Engineer will contribute to exciting new projects across the City. The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Applications Programmer Analyst II in the Information Technology Department! In this role, you will act as a technical liaison between IT and various City departments, translating complex business requirements into effective technological solutions. The current vacancy is assigned to Measure FF, and will function as a project leader for professional and technical support staff, as a technical expert in the traffic and transportation engineering field with responsibility for administrative and technical work in traffic and transportation engineering, as well as for planning, design, and specifications. Some key responsibilities include:

• Lead planning, design review, and technical analysis for Measure FF safety, multimodal, and corridor improvement projects, ensuring compliance with engineering standards, MUTCD, Caltrans guidance, ADA/PROWAG, NACTO, and Vision Zero principles.
• Manage consultant teams, including scope development, task coordination, technical review of deliverables, schedule oversight, and ensuring projects meet Measure FF budget and performance expectations.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

The Sustainability Aide is an entry-level position that provides essential program, technical, customer service, and field support to the Sustainability Division’s solid waste, water conservation, energy, and electric vehicle (EV) charging programs.

This is a part-time position, up to 29 hours per week, not to exceed 1,000 hours in a fiscal year. Work hours are flexible within City business hours; two to three days per week is preferred.

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide customer and permit counter service by responding to public, contractor, and developer inquiries related to solid waste, recycling, water conservation, energy, and EV charging programs.
• Process and review Construction and Demolition (C&D) permit applications and plans, including verification of recycling requirements, authorized haulers, and Green Halo documentation.
• Support sustainability-related development review, including solid waste space planning, trash and recycling enclosure requirements, and coordination with other City departments.
• Assist with data collection, entry, tracking, and basic analysis for waste, recycling, edible food recovery, water use, debris, energy, and EV infrastructure programs.
• Support compliance and implementation of State regulatory requirements, including SB 1383 edible food recovery and organic waste diversion programs.
• Assist with GIS-based sustainability mapping, including trash and recycling enclosure mapping for development projects and updates to sustainability-related maps in coordination with the GIS team.
• Provide program support for energy and infrastructure projects, such as streetlighting replacement projects in coordination with Southern California Edison (SCE).
• Assist with sustainability budgeting support, including tracking program expenditures, maintaining records, and supporting basic budget documentation.
• Support public outreach and education efforts, including staffing events, conducting surveys, and preparing materials and documentation.
• Maintain accurate records in City databases, prepare spreadsheets, draft basic reports and memos, and assist with routine administrative tasks as needed.

A Dispatcher I is a civilian employee of the Police Department who performs a variety of tasks in the Department’s Support Services Division. The Dispatcher I receives incoming calls for police assistance and response; acts as a primary Dispatcher when appropriate; performs a variety of general support duties related to police communications; completes a wide variety of general clerical duties.

Examples of Duties:

The Dispatcher I duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Answer emergency and non-emergency police related phone calls, help prioritize requests for service based upon available resources, receive radio requests and handle accordingly, type, process and file a wide variety of reports and materials including memos, letters, complaints, declarations, warrants, citations, crime and traffic reports.  Assists Department personnel and the public in person and by phone performing record checks, collecting fees and mailing requested reports to outside agencies in accordance with established regulations.   A Dispatcher I may be assigned to work various hours, shifts, holidays, weekends and overtime.

Typical Qualifications:

A combination of education and work experience including 2-3 years of general office work involving typing of varied materials, public contact, general filing and basic record keeping; type at least 40 wpm net.  Knowledge of business English, spelling; modern office practices and procedures; record keeping. Ability to learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routine; write English legibly; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; type and learn the operation of other standard office equipment; a willingness to work varying shifts; and to learn radio dispatching skills.
