The Town of Los Gatos is looking to fill a vacancy in the Parks and Public Works Department at the Administrative Analyst or Senior Administrative Analyst level. This is an exciting career opportunity for individuals with a passion for budgeting in the public sector who can work independently and as part of a team. 

The position reports to the Parks and Public Works  Director and will be responsible for:
 

• Leading the development of the Department’s operating budgets and monitoring personnel and non-personnel expenditures.
• Leading the development of the Town’s Capital Budget Document.
• Working closely with the Town’s Finance Department to monitor Department spending and implement fiscal policies.
• Providing guidance to the Director on financial and budget matters.
• Supporting staff on compliance with state and federal grant programs.
• Providing support and guidance to Department staff on fiscal issues and management.

Individuals in this class may have minimal direct experience and will work under immediate supervision while learning job tasks. As an incumbent’s responsibilities and breadth of knowledge increase and as they gain experience, they can reasonably expect the complexity of their assignments and/or responsibility to increase. General supervision is provided by a higher level professional or management position.  A Recreation Leader may provide lead direction to part-time or seasonal employees if applicable. Under the general direction of the Recreation Supervisor or the Parks & Recreation Director. with project oversight by Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Leader assists with developing, organizing, implementing, and leading a broad range of recreational activities and programs for all ages designed to meet the community needs and performs other related work required.

The Thousand Oaks Library is in search of a Library Assistant who will be a key player in the Technical Services of the Access Services Division. This role offers a unique opportunity to perform a diverse range of library-related clerical duties, from ordering and invoicing to cataloging and processing. Primary Responsibilities:

• Instruct, coordinate, and schedule Library Pages or volunteers on library procedures; assist with scheduling and overseeing activities. 
• Participates in overseeing the day-to-day operations and services of Technical Services from acquisitions, receiving, and invoicing to cataloging and processing. 
  • Acquisitions: place orders with vendors, ensure orders are received physically and in Sierra, the Library Services Platform; resolve damaged items issues; manage canceled titles; find alternate vendors to fulfill the order. Liaise between vendors and staff to meet the needs of the library. 
  • Perform bookkeeping tasks to ensure invoices accurately reflect goods received; post weekly to update the Fund Report in the integrated library system. 
  • Perform copy cataloging of physical materials, including books, DVDs, or Spoken Word, following existing procedures based on industry-established cataloging standards to update bibliographic records. 
• Ability to interpret general library policies and procedures and apply knowledge using sound judgment 
  • Establish, maintain, and update accurate records and files  
• Technical knowledge 
  • Learn and effectively utilize various computer applications, including but not limited to MS Office365, and Sierra, the Library Services Platform
• Ability to lift, drag, and push/pull files, paper, books, and documents weighing in excess of 25 pounds

 As a Park Services Officer Aide, you will:  

• Drive to different park locations and assist in the daily operations and maintenance of park facilities and grounds. 
• Report unsafe conditions, incidents of vandalism, and other related conditions. 
• Provide exceptional customer service to park visitors, answering questions, providing information, and first aid to ill or injured visitors.
• Tactfully and effectively enforce park rules, issue warnings and citations.
• Participate in various park programs and events.
• Perform routine tasks such as litter collection, restroom cleaning, weeding, watering and trail maintenance.
• Learn and apply new skills related to park operations and maintenance.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate loves working outdoors in various weather conditions, possesses strong customer service skills and a friendly, approachable demeanor, is flexible and willing to learn new tasks and skills, and can work independently and as part of a team. Basic knowledge of park operations and maintenance is a plus but not required.

Work Schedule: This is a 20-24 hours per week position. The regular work schedule is Thursday and Friday; weekend work may be occasionally required. This position is limited to up to 1000 hours per year. However, employment might end sooner, depending on the needs of the hiring department. Extra-help positions are paid hourly and are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the extra-help assignment. 

Essential Responsibilities
Essential responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Actively engage with the public to provide excellent customer service, anticipate customer needs and deliver services in a timely and respectful manner.
• Patrols parks or trails and other public recreational area.
• Provide information and direct visitors to appropriate park areas.
• Develop and participate in interpretive programs.
• Report unsafe conditions, incidents of vandalism, and other related conditions.
• Interpret and apply oral or written material/instructions.
• Prepare reports and maintain records of activities; may make recommendations on relevant subjects such as modifications to equipment or facilities to reduce vandalism or improve safety.
• Tactfully and effectively enforce rules and regulations governing facilities. Issue warnings and code citations, directs traffic, enforce park rules as necessary.
• Assist ill or injured park visitors until proper medical aid arrives.
• Operate a motor vehicle or motorized maintenance equipment.
• Conduct light maintenance activities (e.g., repairing, making and installing signs, fences, etc.).
• Perform watering, weeding, pesticide applications, pruning, trash control and perform minor repairs and custodial maintenance.
• Operate light motorized equipment including, but not limited to, pick-up trucks, dump trucks, power mowers, sprayers and tractors. 
• May occasionally operate heavier and more complex equipment.
• Ensure compliance with park rules, codes and ordinances.
• Work weekends, holidays, or other irregular hours.
• May direct the work of other employees on an intermittent or project basis.
• May direct the work of volunteer service organizations on an intermittent or project basis.
• Performs related duties and responsibilities as required.

Required Education, Experience and Training

About Happy Hollow Park & Zoo (HHPZ): This is a 16-acre amusement park and Association of Zoo's & Aquariums (AZA) accredited zoo located in San José, California. It operates nine amusement park rides, showcases various endangered species, and operates one of the oldest classical puppet theaters in California, as well as offering many other playgrounds and attractions emphasizing play and imagination in a natural conservation setting.

About Zookeeper Full Time/Part Time: The position performs work involving the care and feeding of zoo, domestic farm, and/or non-domestic animals and maintenance of enclosures, grounds and service areas; working with animals under all types of climatic conditions to prepare them for presentations, training, capture and restraint, basic husbandry, and behavioral enrichment. In addition, responding to general questions from the public regarding non-domestic and/or domestic animals.

THE POSITION:
This benefitted, full-time position in the Cataloging Department performs original and derived cataloging for materials in all formats and languages; creates metadata for special collections materials; creates and updates authority records; compiles and reviews records for monthly authority control processing; interprets cataloging policies to staff; and serves as back-up for all copy cataloging tasks and other related duties in the Cataloging Department as needed. The position reports to the Librarian III in the Cataloging Department of the Collection Services Division, located at the Rohnert Park Headquarters.

TYPICAL DUTIES include, but are not limited to:

• Performing original and derived cataloging for special collections materials in all formats, local government documents, local author books; local musician/musical group sound recordings; world language materials and other materials in the circulating/reference collections lacking records; assigns Dewey classification numbers
• Researching names, birth dates, street names, etc. in the Library catalog and other databases to create and update authority records and digital projects metadata
• Entering metadata for photos, archival collections and other special collections materials into Excel spreadsheets
• Loading new records and correcting existing records in the Library’s integrated library system (Horizon), digital asset management system (Quartex), archives system (ArchivesSpace) or other platforms
• Compiling information on new records from a series of monthly reports; investigating problems such as missing or malformed call numbers; and searching WorldCat via OCLC Connexion for replacement records
• Preparing and exporting monthly batches of new bibliographic records to Marcive, Inc. for authority processing; retrieving, importing and troubleshooting processed files 
• Managing retrieval of vendor-provided shelf-ready MARC files via FTP, importing files into Horizon and trouble-shooting problems
• Participating in maintenance and enhancements to the public catalog

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Experience working with OCLC Connexion, Horizon, Quartex, ArchivesSpace or similar systems
• Knowledge of metadata standards, digital asset management systems
• Multilingual (Spanish especially helpful)
• Basic programming/scripting/Regular Expressions knowledge helpful

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
 
Education and Experience: Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS), Master of Library Science (MLS), or Master of Science in Library Science (MSLS) degree from an accredited college or university. The Librarian II requires two years of appropriate professional experience working as a professional librarian, preferably in a public library. Must have a valid California driver’s license. Spanish bilingual skills preferred.

Per Diem Librarian I

THE POSITION: The San Mateo Public Library has an opening for 2 per diem Librarian I positions with regular schedules (schedules listed below). This recruitment will also be used to fill on call per diem Librarian openings. On call per diem librarians in this role do not have a regular schedule but pick up shifts on an as-needed basis to fill coverage gaps on the Library’s service desks at the Main Library (adult and children’s desks) and branches.

The library is looking for someone who embodies the City of San Mateo’s shared values of respect, creativity, inclusivity, transparency, and integrity to perform a wide variety of library work.

Responsibilities include serving at the Library’s information desks at the Main Library and branches; researching and responding to difficult or technical reference questions; advising and assisting Library patrons; demonstrating the use of on-line library catalogs, databases and other user aids; performing bibliographic searches using online and/or print resources; and performing other tasks as assigned such as assisting with programming and collection management.

SALARY:             $36.90 per hour (Step 1). This position is considered part time and offers limited benefits after working a specified number of hours.
