DEFINITION

Perform a wide range of administrative and office support activities for the Recreation, Arts and Community Services Department, its Director and/or managers and supervisors to facilitate the efficient operation of the organization.  The incumbent should be organized, detail oriented, accurate and adept with various computer software.  Perform routine correspondence, field public inquiries, maintain departmental files consistent with the Town’s records retention policy; schedule appointments and meetings, procure supplies, assist with data entry and provide support related to the review, production, and distribution of staff reports.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Essential duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Perform general clerical duties related to assigned functional area, including formatting, copying, collating, compiling, binding and distributing simple and complex reports
• Type, format and edit letters, memoranda, staff reports, marketing materials, and public notifications and other documents.
• Compile and maintain complex, extensive paper, and electronic records and files; act as a resource for other employees on the material in files and records maintained or processed

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:           

• Intermediate knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and MS Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access
• Working knowledge of enterprise-wide financial software preferred
• Bookkeeping principles and procedures; business mathematics
• Strong command of English language; spelling, grammar, and punctuation
• Type accurately at 45 words per minute

DEFINITION

Develop, organize, and implement delivery of recreation and social services to the citizens of Danville in accordance with program objectives set forth by the Recreation, Arts and Community Services Department. Perform professional duties in Community Centers, Village Theatre and Art Gallery, and/or Teen Centers, as assigned.

Receives direction from a Program Supervisor.  Exercises supervision over Program Assistants and other program personnel, as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Essential duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Plan, implement and evaluate programs, events and services.
• Assist in recruiting, training, supervising and evaluating part-time personnel and volunteers.
• Conduct and attend a variety of training seminars, staff meetings, and community meetings.
• Recruit and orient contractual instructors and develop and monitor contractual service agreements.
• Prepare memos, correspondence, reports and public information in a variety of forms.
• Represent the Recreation, Arts and Community Services Department and Town to citizens, advisory bodies and community organizations and serve in a liaison role, as assigned.
• Conduct outreach activities and interpret Town policies to the public.
• Maintain accurate records and compile program information and other data.
• Assist in monitoring facilities and equipment.
• Prepare and monitor program operating and revenue budgets; monitor expenditures and payroll in accordance with established procedures.

Specific to Youth/Teen Services:

Program Coordinator will be responsible for implementing a variety of recreational, social and educational programs and services for youth, ages preschool through high school.  Work closely with the Town's Police Services Department, School District, community and human services agencies.  Motivate and facilitate various youth groups.

Specific to Sports & Fitness and Facility Management

Responsible for the development and implementation of sports programming, including aquatics, and organizing a variety of recreational sports leagues for youth and adults.  Work closely with the school district.  Supervises seasonal Aquatics program to include staff training and in-services. Requires a basic understanding of sports terminology, concepts, and rules. Responsible for sports & fitness fee classes offered in the Danville Activity Guide.  Support facility management through facility rentals.

QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor's degree in recreation administration, public administration, or closely related field.

LICENSE(S) AND CERTIFICATION(S)

Possession of a valid California State Driver's License, or license in another state with the ability to obtain a California license within 30 days of hire. First Aid and CPR certification is required but may be obtained during probationary period.

Plans Examiner I:              $46.85– $58.55 per hour ($8,121.69 – $10,150.25 per month)

Plans Examiner II:            $8,955.46 – $11,196.45 per month

JOB TYPE

THE POSITION

The City of Dublin is seeking a dedicated individual for the position of PLANS EXAMINER I/II to perform detailed, comprehensive technical reviews of residential and commercial permit applications and building plans.  The incumbent performs a full range of plans examination duties to ensure projects and structures are in compliance with laws, ordinances, codes and regulations before permits are issued.  The position serves as a resource to the City’s Permit Technicians who determine required plans and resolve problems regarding plan submissions and sufficiency. 

The PLANS EXAMINER I position is distinguished from the PLANS EXAMINER II level in that the PLANS EXAMINER II performs more complex technical reviews of commercial plan checks, structural reviews; and performs supervisory authority over assigned staff, including directing and training.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

The following key elements describe the basic duties and responsibilities of the position:

PLANS EXAMINER I:

• Perform plan checks for residential alterations, room additions and tenant improvements.  Reviews building construction plans for compliance with building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, energy, green building, accessibility and health and safety codes. 
• Confer with homeowners, builders, engineers and architects to provide and obtain information and interpret building codes and regulations; recommend necessary changes to obtain compliance with applicable codes and regulations.
• Provides input and assists in the establishment and/or improvement of Division’s procedures and policies;
• Verifies that permit application and plans meet the minimum requirement of all applicable codes, state and local regulations.
• May perform routine building inspection assignments in support of inspection staff.
• Prepare correspondence to architects, engineers, contractors and homeowners relating to the correction of plans and details.  Communicates verbally, in writing, by e-mail and by telephone with the general public, other City employees, contractors in order to explain and administer the various building codes.
• Properly interpret building codes, plans, specifications, and engineering calculations.  Regularly research code questions for interpretation.
• Review and perform mathematical calculations to determine appropriate fees.
• Perform research, analysis and evaluation of site, architectural and related plans.
• Strong commitment to customer service and interactive team participations.
• Provide support to permit processing and public counter activities.

PLANS EXAMINER II (In addition to the above):

• Reviews building construction plans for compliance with structural design requirements and building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, energy, green building, accessibility and health and safety codes.  Examples of reviews can include: residential additions, complex tenant improvements, HVAC roof top equipment, monument signs, etc.
• Handle the full-range of plan check duties including screening and preliminary review, and is responsible for independent decisions requiring technical judgement and public relations skills. 
• May assume the responsibility for supervision of plan check and permitting functions in the absence of the Plan Check Engineer.
• Participate in the development and implementation of the Division’s policies.
• As assigned, perform on-site inspections as follow-up to plan activities.
• Resolve disputes between the City and designers.
• Attends and represents the Building & Safety Division at Pre-Development and other meetings.
• Evaluate the written qualifications of Special Inspection firms for inclusion into the City’s list of pre-qualified special inspections firms.

The City of Sausalito Police Department is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Police Community Service and Evidence Technician. This vital role supports our mission to maintain public safety and maintaining evidence, as well as enforcement of parking rules and regulations

This is a journey-level non-sworn classification in the Police Department that performs the full range of duties related property and evidence as well as assists the patrol officers with minor evidence collection, reporting writing and responding to related calls for service as needed to effectively provide police services. Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative.

THE POSITION

Under supervision of the Public Works Manager, the Maintenance Worker I performs entry level unskilled, semi-skilled, or skilled labor in construction, maintenance, and related service activities applied to the areas of general landscaping, grounds maintenance and street maintenance.

 TYPICAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Grounds Maintenance:  Operate mowers and other equipment and tools for purposes of cutting grass, trimming trees and shrubs, and planting and transplanting flowers, bulbs, shrubs, and trees.
• Storm Prevention Maintenance:  Assist in cleaning ditches, culverts, and storm drains.
• Street Maintenance: Assist in repainting of pavement markings, basic pothole, and street repair; installation and repair of street signs and markers; mixing and application of Class III pesticide materials.
• Vehicle/Equipment Maintenance:  Assist in the care, maintenance and cleaning of vehicles, tools, and equipment.
• General:  Contact residents concerning maintenance and service problems; refer complaints and requests to proper supervisory personnel. Assist supervisory personnel in preparing and maintaining proper records and logs. Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.

QUALIFICATIONS

The general knowledge of basic construction methods, materials and terminology, standard hand tools, light equipment, and light vehicles; general knowledge of basic safety precautions and practices necessary in working with hand tools, light equipment, and vehicles; general knowledge of basic methods and practices involved in the care of shrubs, trees and flowers. Ability to learn technically complex construction and maintenance procedures in water systems, streets, parks and building maintenance; use hand and power tools; perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time under inclement weather conditions; work alone or with small groups.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession of a valid California driver's license and ability to maintain a satisfactory driving history.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Completion of high school or its equivalent, or completion of a trade or vocational school.  Some directly related experience is desirable.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

• Monthly Salary: $4,855 to $6,269 per month. Placement within the range will be based upon the selected candidate’s experience and salary history.

• Maintains files and reports concerning inspection activities and findings.

KNOWLEDGE OF/ABILITY TO:

• Federal, State and Municipal Codes, ordinances and regulations relating to building plumbing, electrical, mechanical, Green Building and energy.

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Building Inspector I:

• Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent based on courses taken from an accredited education institution.  Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis, AND
• Two (2) years of responsible experience in a variety of building construction work or as a licensed general contractor.  A college degree in a construction-related subject or building inspection program may substitute for one year of the experience.

Building Inspector II:

• Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent based on courses taken from an accredited education institution.  Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis, AND
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in a variety of building construction work or as a licensed general contractor.  A college degree in a construction-related subject or building inspection program may substitute for one year of the experience, AND
• At least two (2) years must be in an inspection capacity equivalent to a Building Inspector I for a government agency.

CERTIFICATES/LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS (SPECIAL REQUIREMENT):

• Ability to obtain a California driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record; AND ONE of the following:

Building Inspector I:

• Must hold or obtain within one-year of hire an International Code Council (ICC) B1 Residential Building Inspector or B2 Commercial Building Inspector certification and must maintain certification through the entire term of employment in this job classification. 

Building Inspector II:

• At time of hire/promotion into this classification, must hold an International Code council (ICC) B1 Residential Building Inspector or B2 Commercial Building Inspector certification.  Within one (1) year of hire/promotion into this classification, must obtain one or more of the following ICC certifications:
  • P1 Residential Plumbing Inspector
  • M1 Residential Mechanical Inspector
  • E1 Residential Electrical Inspector
  • Or, the commercial equivalent.
• Must maintain both certifications through the entire term of employment in this job
  classification.
• Additional ICC certifications including RS Residential Combination Inspector or C5 Commercial Inspector and the California Accessibility Specialist (CASp) are highly desired.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions and regularly works in inside environmental conditions.  The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but occasionally loud.  The nature of the work requires the individual to climb ladders or scaffolding in order to access and walk on rooftops.  A sense of balance is required to walk on pitched rooftops.  The job also requires the ability to access and enter cramped quarters such as crawl spaces located under homes, or spaces such as attic areas. Working within the crawl space may bring the Building Inspector into contact with reptiles, insects and/or rodents.  While conducting an inspection, it may require the incumbent to walk over rough, uneven, and rock surfaces.
