The Department: The Recreation, Parks and Marina Department is responsible for the operations and programs of the Suisun City Marina, the Senior Center, and the Joseph A. Nelson Center, including preschool, after-school programs at various sites, recreation classes and sports leagues, community events and special event rentals.

The Position: Marina Attendants provide assistance and information to marina customers, in person and by telephone; perform marina related inspections and boat checks including seaworthiness boat checks and improvement verifications; perform boat measurement and appearance inspections; monitor dock conditions, check seawall and other dock infrastructure, and clear debris from Suisun City waters; perform impound and auction related activities; interpret, apply and explain policies, regulations, codes and procedures relating to slips, moorings and dock structures; assign space for visiting vessels, calculate and collect fees; maintain inventory and operate marina equipment. ABOUT THE POSITION: Office Assistant I will receive immediate direction from the Senior Administrative Assistant, with additional direction given by the Business Services Supervisor. They provide a variety of clerical support and perform a wide range of customer service-related tasks in a fast paced, high touch environment. This position requires the ability to multi-task and respond to multiple requests from customers with professionalism and courtesy.

HOURLY RATE: $18.00 – $25.00 an hour, DOE.

SCHEDULE: Staff will have the schedule flexibility to work weekday, weekend, early morning and evening shifts.  Staff may be asked to cover additional, unscheduled shifts due to absences by other Office Assistants. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
The following duties are essential to the success of this position:
• Performs a variety of clerical support and receptionist duties; data input, answer phones, directs calls, takes messages, greets public and provides general information for all Recreation department classes, programs, policies, and events.
• Monitors all admittance to the facility, checks required credentials and charges appropriate fees.
• Calculates fees, charges and operate, balance cash register during and at end of shift.
• Monitor guests' activities in the main lobby area and enforce all rules, regulations, and safety principles.
• Assists in opening and closing procedures for the Community Center and the Aquatics & Fitness Center.
• Handles such services as selling merchandise.
• Has the ability to speak English clearly and understandably.
• Reads and follows diagrams and instruction written in English.
• Maintain accurate, organized records and files.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in an indoor setting working at a terminal keyboard for extended periods of time with the ability to move. at will to and from various points within the Community Center and Aquatics & Fitness Center. Must have ability to communicate orally with the public either in person or via the telephone. Must have ability to produce information in written form and operate office equipment (Computers, scanners, typewriters, calculators, printers, and copiers). It may be necessary to move objects weighing 20 lbs., such as mail, packages, merchandise inventory etc.

Position Summary

 

Under general supervision, performs inspection, maintenance, trouble-shooting, repair, removal and replacement on all machinery, electrical, piping and control systems and associated electrical/electronic systems as required, including record keeping and written verification of work accomplished.

 

Essential Responsibilities

 

• Working with computers on a daily basis for work scheduling, work order entry and work order reporting on the Districts electronic maintenance system in addition to notifications and communications through email
• Interacts on a regular basis with vessel operations personnel i.e., Deckhands, Vessel Masters, Supervising Vessel Masters and also coordinates with terminal management
• Conducts tests, analyses and measurements as directed to diagnose any unusual, erratic or malfunctioning occurrence in any shipboard or terminal system or component (mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, piping and electronic control systems)
• Reports any unusual wear patterns, noise, pressure, temperature, or changes in voltage, current, cycles, resistance or any other indication of potential malfunction.
• Reports all safety hazards and corrects unsafe situations immediately where possible
• Records engine operating data, inspections, preventive maintenance, repairs and overhauls as directed for input into the electronic maintenance system
• Signing out in the electronic maintenance system the consumables used for any maintenance function including all information on old and new parts used for repairs or overhaul
• Immediately reports to supervisor any potential maintenance problem or condition which could cause a possible schedule delay
• Maintains all work areas, special tools and equipment used in performing maintenance function, in a clean and orderly manner
• Performs the functions of clean up, painting, fueling, oil changes, machinery space cleaning and other such duties as directed
• Adheres to the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to job
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District employees, customers, vendors and all others contacted during the course of work using principles of excellent customer service
• Performs additional related duties as assigned
• Regular and reliable attendance and performance required 

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

Education and/or Experience: 

• Completion of a four (4) year apprenticeship program or approved equivalent as a marine mechanic OR four (4) years of recent experience maintaining and repairing marine high speed propulsion machinery (large bore diesels, waterjets, gearboxes shafting systems), pumps and piping systems, HVAC systems, Electrical wiring and motor controllers, PLC based control system, hydraulic systems (P-Comp and load sensing variable displacement) and other complex electronics and machinery commonly found in a marine environment
• Experience in maintenance and troubleshooting electronic engine controls are preferred
• Experience operating machine shop equipment (such as lathes, mills, drill presses, grinders, presses, pipe threading machines, band saws and all types of welding equipment) is desirable
• Considerable knowledge of electrical/electronic systems is desirable

 

Required License:  

• Must possess and maintain a current, valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record (Operates District Vehicles)
• No DUI’s or Reckless Driving codes within the last 7 years
• No more than two moving violations within the last 3 years

 

Required Tools:

• Must have a full set of journey level hand tools to accomplish assigned work

 

Hours:

• Shifts are scheduled based on seniority
• The Ferry Maintenance Department operates 7 days per week, except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s day
• Must be available to work all shifts; some overtime maybe required to handle emergencies            

 

Physical Requirement:  

Requires frequent and extensive physical activities such as: lifting and manipulating up to 50 lbs., bending, standing, stooping, kneeling, twisting, climbing, gripping, and other movements related to essential duties. Work around fumes, odors and dust in an occasionally high noise level environment with appropriate personal protective equipment. Ability to wear a respirator and be fit tested. Must wear hearing protections when performing certain duties.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

Knowledge of:  

• Occupational health and safety rules and working practices applicable to this position 
• Monitoring and inspection of main propulsion and auxiliary machinery and other supporting systems (i.e., electrical, plumbing, electronics, hydraulics and HVAC in a commercial marine application)
• Electrical/electronic systems and ability to troubleshoot the same

  

Skill in or Ability to: 

• Maintain corrective and preventative maintenance records using a computer based maintenance management information system
• Perform tasks with limited direction, and minimal supervision
• Perform basic MS Windows based software for data entry, work order processing and materials requisition

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Distribution System Operations Department of the Operations Division is recruiting for one regular, full-time Distribution System Operator.  Under general supervision, monitors, inspects, adjusts and performs maintenance tasks at the District's SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) control room and other water distribution facilities; performs radio and telephone dispatch for District personnel and consumers; and performs related work as required. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the journey-level class in which incumbents are expected to handle complex problems associated with the daily operation of the water distribution system and assist with the training of new Water Distribution Operators.  As a condition of employment, employees in Distribution System Operator positions are required to pursue the training and education necessary to maintain a current Grade 3 Water Distribution System Operator certification issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB).

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Typical duties may include but are not limited to the following:

• Operates and monitors the water system using a modern SCADA system;
• analyzes data obtained from the SCADA system in order to correct abnormal conditions in the water system;
• performs routine maintenance to SCADA system peripherals, such as changing printer paper, ribbons or cartridges;
• uses both hard copy maps and computerized GIS (Geographic Information Systems) data to analyze and correct system problems;
• receives and analyzes consumer and system problems, dispatches the appropriate District personnel;
• operates a computer based radio/telephone communication console;
• maintains a computer based radio/telephone log and related computer programs;
• installs and operates emergency system bypass lines, regulator systems and pumping systems;
• performs inspections, adjustments and maintenance at water distribution facilities; and

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Coordinator I – Aquatics Safety manages the City’s Aquatics lifeguards and scheduling, including lap swim, water-walking, lifeguard certification and JR Lifeguard program.  This position also supervises all lifeguards, senior lifeguards and provides key assistance to the Recreation Supervisor on all related matters (works closely with Recreation Coordinator II- Aquatics to support division goals and activities).

The Aquatics & Fitness Center is a 7 day a week operation.

Recreation Coordinator I schedule may include Saturdays and Sundays and is subject to change depending on facility and supervisor needs. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Recruit, hire, manage, train, schedule, audit, discipline and evaluate staff, contractors, interns and volunteers.
• Schedule and provide regular in-service training for aquatics staff.
• Schedule and provide regular class and certification offerings necessary to staff for the proper operation of a public pool facility.
• Manage and develop the swim lesson program to balance and meet the needs of the community and the goals of the Department.
• Plan, develop and implement programs and events.
• Evaluate the progress and effectiveness of scheduling and programming utilizing measurable outcomes.
• Coordinate with local police and fire agencies for emergency response protocols.
• Assist in the development of policies, procedures, contracts, and manuals for facility users and staff.
• Work with local organizations, businesses, school personnel, parents and community members in developing recreational programs and activities.
• Maintain all personal certifications and be available to lifeguard, teach swim lessons, and otherwise supplement line staff when needed.
• Provide assistance and guidance to facility users, anticipate and resolve problems, provide quality customer service.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
