The Department of Transportation (DOT) is recruiting for a Senior Heavy Equipment Operator (Senior HEO). Key responsibilities include:

Field Leadership & Supervision

• Provide frontline supervision of field crews
• Prioritize, assign, and coordinate daily work activities
• Ensure safety compliance and oversee job site operations
• Communicate with residents at project sites
• Evaluate staff performance

Operations & Project Oversight

• Supervise and participate in projects within the Pavement and Sewer divisions
• Coordinate and support emergency storm response efforts
• Maintain service levels for:
  • Emergency response
  • Pavement maintenance
  • Sanitary sewer maintenance
• Support timely sewer repairs and overall customer service goals

Programs & Compliance

• Coordinate the Heavy Equipment Operator Trainee Program
• Implement Safety and Wellness programs for Pavement and Sewer sections
• Ensure all training meets OSHA standards

Sewer & Capital Improvement Projects

• Provide field supervision for sewer repair and capital improvement projects
• Oversee a crew of approximately 14 maintenance and heavy equipment staff
• Help reduce backlog of sewer repair projects to minimize community impact

Administrative & Technical Duties

• Input data and generate reports using systems such as ACCESS and UNITY
• Support capital projects requiring heavy equipment and concrete crews, including:
  • Traffic calming improvements
  • ADA improvements
  • Median island construction
  • Traffic signal construction
• Contribute to approximately 12 large-scale projects annually

The Senior Heavy Equipment Operator may be required to work 10-hour shifts, overtime, weekends and holidays. This position may work in confined spaces.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Completion of high school, or General Educational Development (GED) Certificate, or California Proficiency Certificate.

Experience: Four (4) years of experience operating heavy motorized equipment such as that used in the construction trades.

Certifications/Licenses: Possession of a valid State of California Class A driver's license with applicable endorsements is required.

POSITION SUMMARY

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Account Clerk I - This is the entry-level class in the Account Clerk series performing the more routine and less complex clerical accounting support and customer service assignments while learning City policies and procedures. Positions at this level are not expected to function with the same amount of program knowledge or skill level as positions allocated to the Account Clerk II level and exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Account Clerk II - This is the full journey level class within the Account Clerk series. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. Positions in this class series are flexibly staffed and are generally filled by advancement from the “I” level, or when filled from the outside, require prior experience. Advancement to the “II” level is based on management judgment and/or certification or testing that validates the performance of the full range of job duties. Definition

Under general supervision of the Economic and Housing Development Manager, assists in organizing and implementing an Economic Development Workplan that promotes the growth and development of the City’s economic base, including the facilitation of housing production and new building permits, the retention and expansion of existing businesses, and, sourcing new businesses for the City. This position will also support the Economic and Housing Development Manager’s staffing of the City’s Economic and Community Development Committee.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This is the journey level class within the Housing and Economic and Housing Development Specialist series. Employees perform the full range of duties as assigned. ABOUT THE TEAM 
The Economic Development team is a small, but might group that consists of a Director and Manager dedicated to strengthening and diversifying the local economy in Gilroy. WOODLAND JOINT UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT HOST SITE

Woodland Joint Unified School District (WJUSD) is partnering with the City of Woodland to host two fellows as part of this year’s Civic Fellowship Program. The fellows will work on-site at WJUSD Business Services Office and receive day-to-day guidance and supervision from WJUSD staff while remaining part of the fellowship cohort and participating in program-wide activities.

This posting is for the Logistics & Inventory Systems Fellow within the Transportation Department in Business Services at WJUSD.  

Typical work hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday; and 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday, up to 40 hours per week.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Woodland Joint Unified School District (WJUSD) Service Center is seeking a motivated Civic Fellow to support inventory organization and management of parts and materials essential to district operations. This role provides hands-on experience in warehouse operations, inventory systems, and process improvement within a public education environment.

The Fellow will assess current storage and inventory practices and help implement a more efficient, organized system. Responsibilities may include developing labeling structures, organizing storage areas, establishing inventory tracking procedures, and improving material accessibility for staff. In collaboration with Service Center personnel, the Fellow will identify opportunities to enhance efficiency, organization, and accountability.

This fellowship offers practical experience in warehouse logistics, operational system design, and cross-functional collaboration, while building skills in organization, problem-solving, and process improvement within a public sector setting.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general directions from the designated WCC host-site employee.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, organized, and motivated individual interested in operations, logistics, engineering, business, or public service. The Civic Fellow should be comfortable working independently and as part of a team, and willing to take initiative to improve organization and efficiency.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, a willingness to learn new systems, and the ability to think critically about processes. Interest in organization, data tracking, or hands-on operational work such as inventory or warehouse systems is desirable. Experience with spreadsheets or data entry is helpful but not required.
Additionally, the ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and reliability. This position is well suited for someone who enjoys solving practical challenges and contributing to systems that help organizations run effectively.

THE POSITION OBJECTIVES/GOALS

The goals of the position are to:

1. Accurately assess and document current inventory of parts and materials within the WJUSD Service Center, including storage locations, item categories, and current organizational practices.

2. Review existing storage systems to identify inefficiencies, inconsistencies, or gaps, and coordinate with Service Center, Maintenance, and Transportation staff to improve organization.

3. Develop and implement a standardized organizational structure for parts and materials, including clear storage locations, labeling practices, and logical grouping of inventory.

4. Improve inventory accessibility and efficiency by helping establish procedures that allow staff to quickly locate, store, and track commonly used materials.

5. Create simple documentation and reference materials to support consistent inventory organization practices, including basic procedures for storing and locating materials.

6. Develop a working understanding of school district operational support systems, including how the Service Center supports Maintenance, Facilities, and Transportation functions.

7. Contribute to continuous process improvement by identifying opportunities to improve inventory organization, storage workflows, and material tracking practices.

The County Executive’s Office is seeking a well-qualified Assistant County Chief Financial Officer (Assistant County CFO) to join a high-performing team of public finance professionals supporting the County of San Mateo’s fiscal stewardship and service delivery.

The Assistant County CFO, a new position, is being added to the County Executive’s Office to help shape the trajectory of finance for the County for the future.  This visionary leader will be expected to look at the County’s finances in their entirety now and in the years ahead.

This executive management role helps lead the Finance Department of the County Executive’s Office, which includes these four divisions: Budget and Performance, Procurement, Assessment and Appeals, and CEO Administration. 

Under general direction of the County Chief Financial Officer, the Assistant County CFO provides day-to-day oversight, integration, and coordination of assigned budget operations and will supervise and mentor staff. The position requires a high level of judgment and discretion within the legal and policy frameworks established by the CFO, the Board of Supervisors, and applicable state and federal laws.

In addition to the responsibilities of complex budget development and oversight, this position plays a key role in helping develop practical, yet creative solutions to modern government funding and cost pressures, identifying options that are implementable, transparent, and aligned with Board and County priorities.

This is a unique opportunity for a high-impact public finance leader to develop and test new methodologies and ideas combining innovative yet practical problem-solving, forward-looking fiscal leadership, and enterprise-minded approaches with fiscally disciplined stewardship.  We are looking for someone who can keep the County financially strong while helping departments navigate growing community needs, rising costs, and limited revenues by bringing fresh thinking, analytic rigor, and collaborative execution to budget solutions.

What You Will Do (Key Responsibilities)

Duties may include, but are not limited to:

Fiscal Strategy, Sustainability & Decision Support

• Develop data-informed options to address funding gaps and cost pressures, including scenario planning and clear articulation of tradeoffs and impacts.
• Support strategies to strengthen fiscal sustainability, including evaluation of cost controls, cost recovery, service delivery alternatives, resource reallocation, and other legally permissible approaches to improve revenues and/or reduce expenditures.
• Monitor department expenditures and revenues; identify trends, risks, and mitigation options.
• Review, analyze, and report on pending state and federal legislation with significant fiscal impacts.

Budget Leadership & Performance Management

• Assist in planning, organizing, directing, and reviewing the development and oversight of the County budget.
• Lead development and implementation of budget policies, calendars, tools, and processes.
• Oversee the development and implementation of performance-based/outcome-based budgeting approaches.
• Coordinate budget and fiscal activities with all County departments and special districts.

Organizational Improvement & Implementation

• Identify opportunities to increase efficiency and effectiveness through process redesign, automation, continuous improvement, and improved financial/performance reporting.
• Partner with departments to move from recommendations to implementation, building shared ownership, accountability, and measurable results.
• Lead and participate in high-priority department and county-wide projects and system implementations.

Executive Communications & Representation

• Explain and interpret budget and financial policies, rules, and procedures.
• Represent the County CFO with the County Executive, Board of Supervisors, special districts, media, community, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
• Inform the County CFO regarding overall fiscal condition and emerging issues that could affect the County’s financial position.

County of San Mateo: Fiscal Stewardship & Innovation

The County is in a period of financial transformation throughout our departments.  We are in the process of securing a new budget system and new Assessment Appeals system and will continue to upgrade our County-wide systems and processes to strengthen the oversight of our fiscal stewardship.  Our aim is to be one of the first adapters of new technology that will provide more in-depth information in our continued pursuit of data-driven approaches to demonstrate performance, enhance services, and improve transparency.

Qualifications

Experience and Education:

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

• Four years of increasingly responsible experience performing a wide variety of fiscal, administrative, and managerial duties in a large, complex public agency, including one or more years in a senior-level administrative or management position.
