The City of Sunnyvale is excited to announce an opportunity for dedicated individuals to fill (2) regular full-time Maintenance Worker 2 positions in the Street Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department. This position plays a key role in supporting the upkeep of the City's streets and traffic safety-related infrastructure. We are seeking dependable, detail-oriented individuals with strong customer service skills to join our team.

Responsibilities include performing a range of semi-skilled and manual labor tasks, such as repairing and maintaining traffic signs, applying roadway striping, installing pavement markings, and removing graffiti. These positions also perform traffic control, completing asphalt and minor concrete repairs, and carrying out other right-of-way maintenance duties as needed.

Education and Experience

Qualifications

Experience and Education: 

Qualified candidates possess any combination of education and experience that would likely provide them with the required knowledge, skills, and ability.

• Library Assistant I: No specific education or experience is required.

• Library Assistant II: One year of public contact and support experience in a library.

Knowledge of:

The Mill Valley Public Library is looking for a part-time librarian who is passionate about public service, shows initiative, and has a strong work ethic to work the adult reference desk. This is a great opportunity to get experience in reference work and assisting patrons with their needs. You will work in a very fast-paced, collaborative environment.  

ESTIMATED NUMBER OF HOURS:

Will work at least one shift per week with additional sub hours available. Applicant must be able to work Saturday (9:15am - 5:15pm) and/or Sunday (11:30am - 5pm) and one weeknight until 8pm. 

Salary: $24.77 - $41.04/hour depending on experience and education.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

Staffing the Adult Reference Desk is the primary responsibility of this position. A knowledge of literature or the desire to read widely is essential in making book recommendations and understanding types of computers and assisting with technology troubleshooting is crucial. The Mill Valley Library is fast-paced and innovative; the person in this position needs to learn new skills quickly, adapt easily to change, be detail-oriented, and patron focused. Many part-time staff are cross trained to work in other Library departments as needed.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

• Provide reference services including readers’ advisory. 
• Provide excellent customer service to all patrons with consistency and in line with library policies.
• Assist patrons troubleshooting technological issues on both library computers and personal devices.
• Help with programming as needed.
• Additional duties based on interests and demonstrated quality of work.

The City of Foster City is looking for a Building/Fleet Maintenance Superintendent who will oversee the Building and Fleet Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, supervising, reviewing, and evaluating diverse and specialized building and fleet maintenance and repair functions.

This position manages and develops outside contracts, vendors, and project budgets; assures regulatory compliance and economy in all programs; coordinates assigned activities with other City departments and outside agencies; provides responsible and technical staff assistance; and performs duties as assigned. The ideal candidate would be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A typical way would be:

Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade supplemented by specialized training or coursework in construction trades, maintenance, automotive technology, or repair, and/or supervision.

Experience: Five (5) years of experience as a journey-level mechanic performing vehicle and equipment repairs or general repair and maintenance in one or more of the building trades, of which two (2) years should be in a supervisory or lead capacity.

Licenses and Certifications

• Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver’s license upon appointment.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain within one year of appointment, a Class B California driver’s license with tank and airbrake endorsement.
• Possession of ,or the ability to obtain, National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification in air conditioning, brakes, and electrical systems is highly desired.
• Possession of, or the ability to obtain, Building Operator Certification Level 1 and 2 is highly desired.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process.

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview (weighted 80%) and a written exercise (weighted 20%). An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner. 

The department will invite the most qualified candidates from the eligibility list to a final department interview. The Public Works department will make the hiring decision.

• Attend orientations and trainings.
• Set up pop-up outreach site, track book distribution, and lead interactive off-site program.

About the Position:  The Seasonal Facilities Open Space Technician is part of the Facilities & Fleet Department and assists with routine and nonroutine repairs and improvements at Midpen’s Administrative Office, field offices, and residences. This position works closely under the guidance of the facilities team performing preventative maintenance tasks, repairs, and minor improvement projects. This position is also responsible for operating hand and power tools to do semi-skilled carpentry, construction tasks. The position will require either knowing or having the aptitude to learn basic painting, plumbing, electrical, and general carpentry tasks while assisting in the capacity of a helper and must also be able to demonstrate basic mechanical aptitude. Additional duties include cleanup, routine maintenance in buildings and restrooms, and other tasks as required. Coveralls & personal protective equipment (PPE) are provided. Seasonal employees are provided with a uniform. Start date will be in early July 2026 and the selected individual will continue working through January 2027. There is no seasonal housing available.

Requirements:  Basic requirements include high school diploma or G.E.D.; possession of a valid California driver’s license; skills to perform basic construction and maintenance assignments; ability to perform manual labor requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, and lifting; and the ability to work in, or around, poison oak. Highly desirable traits include experience in construction, maintenance, and/or repair of buildings, structures and/or related facilities, and/or prior work experience in a park, forest, or public recreation area involving work with equipment and hand tools used in park/facilities maintenance.  Candidates selected for the position will be required to successfully pass and obtain a certification in Basic First Aid/CPR, AED for Lay Responders.   

Schedules: This is a full-time (preferred), Monday through Friday position working on a 9/80 schedule, with occasional weekend and holiday work as needed. Seasonal assignments will not exceed 950 hours or 7 months, whichever comes first, and do not include benefits. Seasonal Open Space Technicians are expected to work a minimum of 6 consecutive months.

Working Conditions: While most work will focus on the maintenance and operations of Midpen’s Administrative Office, responsibilities will also extend to project work at field offices and facilities, district owned and managed residential housing, historic properties, ranch infrastructure, and public buildings such as Midpen’s Daniels Nature Center. When conducting field assignments, work may include traversing rough, difficult terrain in inclement or hot weather with exposure to poison oak, wildlife and rodent inhabitants.  Duties will include building and facility work that will require climbing ladders and entering confined spaces.  Ideal candidates will be comfortable working in these types of conditions, as well as in an office environment. Positions in this classification must possess the ability to lift and carry materials and objects weighing up to 60 pounds and must possess the ability to push and pull objects weighing up to 100 pounds, with the use of proper equipment. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
