The total salary range for the Associate Transportation Specialist Position classification is $54.94 to $72.69 hourly or $114,266.88 to $151,198.32 annually. This amount includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates' qualifications and experience.

The Department of Transportation is looking to fill two Associate Transportation Specialist positions - one in the Planning, Policy, and Sustainability Division's Transportation Planning & Policy team, and the other in the Development, Design and Capital Projects Division - Grants team . Planning, Policy, and Sustainability Division: Transportation Planning & Policy (Multimodal Planning)

This Associate Transportation Specialist position is in the Transportation Planning & Policy team. The position focuses on developing long-range multimodal transportation improvement plans (MTIPs) for planned growth areas in the city. An MTIP is a community-based transportation plan for a study area that builds upon past planning efforts, reflects the priorities of demographically diverse neighborhoods, and defines a path forward for implementing multimodal transportation improvements that address community needs and accommodate future growth. The position works with community members to identify strategies and infrastructure investments that provide safer, more affordable, and healthier mobility options for people of all ages and abilities.

This position reports directly to the Transportation Planning Manager and supervises one Transportation Specialist and interns. The position works directly with six staff in the Transportation Planning & Policy team. The position manages the Multimodal Planning function of the team to deliver MTIPs as well as oversee subsequent planning phases leading to the delivery of planned projects. Constructive, creative, and self-motivated, demonstrating a strong desire and skills to support transportation planning needed to achieve the Envision San José 2040 General Plan Goals and Policies are required. The position requires occasional attendance and participation in public engagement activities in evenings and on weekends.

Key responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

• Plan, coordinate, document, analyze, report, for project management.
• Conduct in-person and virtual public engagement activities including workshops, focus groups, stakeholder interviews, field surveys, transit/bike/walk audits, pop-ups, and pop-ins throughout the city.
• Manage the development of multimodal transportation improvement plans, written reports, memorandums, and presentation materials, etc.
• Analyze information using geographic information system software (e.g., ArcGIS).
• Prepare drawings, figures, methodologies, and documents using design tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, InDesign, Sketchup, and Adobe InDesign and Illustrator).
• Coordinate and oversee the transition from the planning phase to design, construction, and monitoring phases of transportation projects.
• Communicate with Major and Council offices, members of the public, community organizations, City staff, and neighbor and partner agencies.

We're seeking an Industrial Hygienist to join our Safety & Health team at the San Francisco International Airport (SFO). In this position, you'll handle challenging industrial hygiene tasks related to hazardous materials and other health and environmental risks at the Airport. You'll independently conduct regular monitoring of chemical, biological, and physical agents, while also serving as a technical expert and consultant in implementing occupational safety and health regulations. Your responsibilities include assessing industrial hygiene data concerning public health matters, designing and delivering occupational health and safety training sessions, responding to and assessing hazardous materials incidents, conducting ergonomic assessments, and fulfilling any other related duties as needed.

Essential Duties: 

• Serves as a technical advisor to departmental management and other personnel in identifying, containing, and regulating the use and storage of hazardous materials; in developing and implementing inspection practices and procedures.
• Investigates and evaluates health and safety hazards and coordinates remedial action with representatives from various City and County departments, other agencies, businesses, and the public; conducts surveys of potentially hazardous workplace operations, including monitoring for physical, biological, and chemical agents, evaluating results, recommending corrective actions and preparing reports.
• Anticipates, identifies, evaluates, and controls occupational safety and health and environmental hazards for personnel working in proximity to hazardous waste remediation or hazardous materials.
• Develops, modifies, and/or maintains health and safety programs for City and County of San Francisco personnel.
• Develop policies and procedures for responding to hazardous materials incidents and implementation of environmental health and safety laws, codes, and regulations.
• Develops and conducts health and safety training, and conducts programs concerning the proper use, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and the regulation of hazardous materials according to law.
• Performs assessments to identify and resolve ergonomic issues in a variety of work settings.
• Advises program and departmental management on matters about public health and safety, the handling and containment of hazardous materials incidents, and evaluation procedures.
• Provides technical support in identifying, preventing, and controlling health, environmental, and safety hazards.
• Coordinates compliance with applicable laws, policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Assists in administrative tasks related to the implementation of ordinances, codes, and other regulations.
• Maintains technical reference materials and records compiles data and prepares reports.
• Maintains Respiratory Protection Program, including recommending appropriate respiratory protection, fit testing, and coordinating medical examinations, and maintaining records.
• Conducts and participates in meetings with professional and business groups concerning industrial hygiene and hazardous materials matters.
• Leads industrial hygiene programs – hazard communication, hearing conservation, exposure control, hazardous waste, respiratory protection, ergonomics, radiofrequency
• May supervise industrial hygiene, health and safety, environmental, and/or support staff.

These minimum qualifications establish the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license(s) which are required for employment in the classification. Education:

Possession of a Master's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health; Environmental Sciences, Health, or Management; or a closely related field from an accredited college or university. Applicant’s college level (undergraduate or masters) coursework must include a minimum of 6 semesters of any combination of chemistry, biology, and/or physics.

Experience:

Two (2) years of professional industrial experience equivalent to the level of City and County of San Francisco classes 6137 Assistant Industrial Hygienist or higher, which must have included professional industrial hygiene activities including either hazardous materials management or identification, evaluation, and control of occupational health hazards, such as noise, radiation, asbestos, various chemicals, etc.

License and Certification:

Possession of a valid driver's license; if not a California driver's license ability to obtain a California Driver’s License within 45 days of hire.

Substitution:

Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences, Health, or Management; Occupational Safety & Health; or in a closely related major (examples include but are not limited to toxicology; chemistry, physics; biology; or mechanical, chemical, or environmental engineering) which includes a minimum of 6 semesters of any combination of chemistry, biology, and/or physics, if accompanied by three (3) years of professional industrial experience equivalent to the level of City and County of San Francisco classes 6137 Assistant Industrial Hygienist or higher, which must have included professional industrial hygiene activities including either hazardous materials management or identification, evaluation, and control of occupational health hazards, such as noise, radiation, asbestos, various chemicals, etc.

OR

Certification by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene as a Certified Industrial Hygienist in the comprehensive practice of Industrial Hygiene may substitute for the required education and experience.

THE POSITION: The City Manager’s Office at the City of San Mateo has an opportunity for an intern to work on a number of projects. The Department, which has program managers that work on Sustainability, Volunteering, Economic Development, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Communications, work on special projects directed by the City Manager and Assistant City Manager. The Student Intern will receive primary supervision from the Department Head, and project specific direction from the supervisor/manager primarily responsible for each specific project. DUTIES: The primary projects will most likely include the following:
• Volunteer Survey. Conduct a citywide volunteer survey to collect feedback on the volunteer program. Prepare a report analyzing the results of the survey work.
• Program Improvement. Research and prepare findings reports on the effectiveness of our volunteer and ESL City Government Academy programs. Identify best practices and ways to improve both programs to attract and retain more volunteers and participants.
• Age-Friendly Business Certification. Assist in administering a pilot program to promote and inform businesses about the City’s Age-Friendly Business program and certify businesses as “age-friendly”.
• Event Support Assistance. Provide on-site support to help special community events with registration, attendee questions, event setup and other work as needed.
• Emergency Preparedness Planning. Assist in the Citywide effort to plan and prepare for natural disasters, public health emergencies, and other emergencies impacting the community or region.
In addition, the intern may work on a variety of other projects depending upon their time and interests.

THE POSITION

Under supervision of the Public Works Manager, the Maintenance Worker I performs entry level unskilled, semi-skilled, or skilled labor in construction, maintenance, and related service activities applied to the areas of general landscaping, grounds maintenance and street maintenance.

 TYPICAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Grounds Maintenance:  Operate mowers and other equipment and tools for purposes of cutting grass, trimming trees and shrubs, and planting and transplanting flowers, bulbs, shrubs, and trees.
• Storm Prevention Maintenance:  Assist in cleaning ditches, culverts, and storm drains.
• Street Maintenance: Assist in repainting of pavement markings, basic pothole, and street repair; installation and repair of street signs and markers; mixing and application of Class III pesticide materials.
• Vehicle/Equipment Maintenance:  Assist in the care, maintenance and cleaning of vehicles, tools, and equipment.
• General:  Contact residents concerning maintenance and service problems; refer complaints and requests to proper supervisory personnel. Assist supervisory personnel in preparing and maintaining proper records and logs. Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.

QUALIFICATIONS

The general knowledge of basic construction methods, materials and terminology, standard hand tools, light equipment, and light vehicles; general knowledge of basic safety precautions and practices necessary in working with hand tools, light equipment, and vehicles; general knowledge of basic methods and practices involved in the care of shrubs, trees and flowers. Ability to learn technically complex construction and maintenance procedures in water systems, streets, parks and building maintenance; use hand and power tools; perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time under inclement weather conditions; work alone or with small groups.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession of a valid California driver's license and ability to maintain a satisfactory driving history.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Completion of high school or its equivalent, or completion of a trade or vocational school.  Some directly related experience is desirable.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

• Monthly Salary: $4,855 to $6,269 per month. Placement within the range will be based upon the selected candidate’s experience and salary history.
• Health/Medical Benefit: Health/Medical Benefit: Choice of coverage with Kaiser or Blue Shield. The City pays 80% of monthly premiums at each coverage level. The Yuba County Sheriff's Department is responsible for the administration of the Yuba County Jail and Jail staff. The Mission of the Yuba County Jail is to provide safe, efficient, humane and secure custody of all persons incarcerated. The county prisoner population is made up of those who are sentenced to county jail, those serving state prison sentences in the county jail under AB109, and those who are pre-trial and who have not yet been sentenced. The jail provides a necessary link in the criminal justice system.
