ABOUT THE POSITION: Office Assistant I will receive immediate direction from the Senior Administrative Assistant, with additional direction given by the Business Services Supervisor. They provide a variety of clerical support and perform a wide range of customer service-related tasks in a fast paced, high touch environment. This position requires the ability to multi-task and respond to multiple requests from customers with professionalism and courtesy.

HOURLY RATE: $18.00 – $25.00 an hour, DOE.

SCHEDULE: Staff will have the schedule flexibility to work weekday, weekend, early morning and evening shifts.  Staff may be asked to cover additional, unscheduled shifts due to absences by other Office Assistants. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
The following duties are essential to the success of this position:
• Performs a variety of clerical support and receptionist duties; data input, answer phones, directs calls, takes messages, greets public and provides general information for all Recreation department classes, programs, policies, and events.
• Monitors all admittance to the facility, checks required credentials and charges appropriate fees.
• Calculates fees, charges and operate, balance cash register during and at end of shift.
• Monitor guests' activities in the main lobby area and enforce all rules, regulations, and safety principles.
• Assists in opening and closing procedures for the Community Center and the Aquatics & Fitness Center.
• Handles such services as selling merchandise.
• Has the ability to speak English clearly and understandably.
• Reads and follows diagrams and instruction written in English.
• Maintain accurate, organized records and files.
• Interpret and apply policies and procedures.
• Communicate clearly and concisely in English, both orally and in writing.
• Deal effectively with other city personnel and the public.
• Type at a speed necessary for successful job performance.
• Operate office equipment (including computers, scanners, calculators, printers, and copiers).

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS: Candidates receiving a conditional job offer must pass a pre-placement fingerprint review. Candidates must be comfortable calling 911 in an emergency and providing care according to the level of training.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in an indoor setting working at a terminal keyboard for extended periods of time with the ability to move. at will to and from various points within the Community Center and Aquatics & Fitness Center. Must have ability to communicate orally with the public either in person or via the telephone. Must have ability to produce information in written form and operate office equipment (Computers, scanners, typewriters, calculators, printers, and copiers). It may be necessary to move objects weighing 20 lbs., such as mail, packages, merchandise inventory etc.

The City Manager's Office has an excellent opportunity for the position of Communications Coordinator.  The Communications Coordinator will expand community engagement and foster community relations for the City of Santa Clara. This position will build community connection with clear, consistent communication using social media, the City website, print and digital publications, email newsletters, events and other  communications and outreach outlets. The Communication Coordinator will also be responsible for timely communication to the public during emergencies and will support the communications team with writing, outreach campaigns and events.

Incumbents may function as a supervisor, or an individual contributor, depending on the department or assignment, and will be supervised by the Communications Manager.

The Department: 

The City of Santa Clara’s Electric Department, Silicon Valley Power (SVP) provides reliable electric service to Santa Clara’s residents and businesses – “Powering the Center of What’s Possible”.  SVP is experiencing significant growth in electric load and the need to increase use of renewable energy.  To support this growth and the day-to-day needs of a 24X7 department, SVP is seeking a Service Coordinator - Inspector.

The Position: 

The successful incumbent will monitor and inspect contractor installed electric substructures to ensure compliance with City of Santa Clara construction specifications and monitor development progress to evaluate work to be performed by the City of Santa Clara. Incumbents in this position will also perform mark and locate duties within the City of Santa Clara.

Typical Duties

Each position in this classification may not include all the duties listed below, nor do the examples cover all duties that may be performed.

Under general supervision:
•  Interfaces with contractors, customers, and City of Santa Clara personnel, as required, to provide up to date construction status information to Silicon Valley Power (SVP) managers and utility staff with the goal of providing timely, efficient response to customers' electric service requirements;
• Acts as liaison between City of Santa Clara Electrical Estimating, Electric Division Manager, or other assigned City personnel and contractors and utility customers, to promote common understanding and timely completion of work necessary to provide City electric service;
• Inspects developer (contractor) installed electric substructures on the utility side of the Utility Service Point to ensure compliance with City of Santa Clara construction specifications
• Reads and interprets blueprints and drawings;
• Monitors contractors'/customers' construction progress to assess appropriate timing for scheduling of associated work to be performed by the City of Santa Clara;
• Provides information relative to construction progress for continual validation of electric service dates;
• Recommends modification of a service date based on knowledge of job status;
• Assists in the coordination of construction and service connection work to ensure timely energization of new facilities and meter sets to meet customer service dates;
• Assists in various training programs;
• May be required to perform Journey Lineworker duties as part of a crew or in other assignments, in both routine and emergency situations
• Provide as-built drawings at completion of work
• Performs other work as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Graduation from high school or possession of a G.E.D; and
• Two (2) years of experience as a Journey Lineworker.

LICENSE & CERTIFICATION
• Possession of a valid Class C license at the time of appointment.
• Required to become rubber glove certified as a condition of holding the classification of Service Coordinator-Inspector within nine (9) months of appointment. 
• Possession of an appropriate valid California Class A driver's license is desirable.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS & REQUIREMENTS
• May be required to work odd and unusual hours, weekends and shift work in the performance of duties in emergency situations and to be available on an "on-call" basis as assigned to perform the duties of this classification or those of the Journey Lineworker classification.
• Incumbents of this classification may be subject to drug and/or alcohol testing as mandated by federal regulations.
• Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job assignment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

Knowledge of:
• Construction of high and low voltage transmission and distribution lines;
• Principles of electrical theory;
• Methods, tools, equipment, and materials used in overhead and underground electrical installation and repair work and in the construction and maintenance of electrical distribution and transmission lines and underground systems;
• Methods, equipment and materials used in constructing underground electric distribution systems and associated substructures ;
• Appropriate safety precautions employed while working on and around high voltage electric lines, equipment and excavations;
• Applicable laws, codes and safety orders covering electrical transmission and distribution systems;
• Safety practices and regulations applying to low and high voltage electrical wires;
• Environmental and safety practices, procedures and standards;
• Pertinent first-aid principles and techniques including resuscitation methods;
• General Order #95, "Rules for Overhead Line Constructing" and General Order #128, "Rules for Construction of Underground Electric Systems issued by California Public Utilities Commission; and
• City of Santa Clara Permitting and Inspection processes and other associated processes.

Ability to:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college with major courses in business administration, public administration, or a closely related field, and four (4) years of experience with management and supervisory responsibility for revenue collection functions or business facility management and development.
