Definition
Under general supervision, the Senior Land Surveyor supervises and coordinates the activities of field and office surveying functions and assists the Survey and Mapping Manager with supervisory and administrative functions of the Survey Services Unit.

Distinguishing Characteristics
This is a single position classification responsible for assisting the Survey and Mapping Manager in supervising the efforts of subordinate personnel including surveyors, engineering technicians, and consultants. The Senior Land Surveyor can be assigned to any of the following areas: supervision of survey activities in the field for design and construction projects, supervision of office surveying functions such as mapping, writing legal descriptions, and production of accurate calculations used for engineering, real estate and construction activities.

This classification requires that the incumbent be licensed as a Professional Land Surveyor in the State of California or equivalent and possess specialized knowledge of land surveying techniques and construction surveying, with emphasis on technology such as GPS (Global Positioning System) methodology and instrumentation. This position will supervise professional and/or administrative staff, as well as identify the need for establishing and administering consultant contracts. This position works with other public agencies (e.g., Caltrans, local cities and counties, water district) to establish property exchanges and rights of way for transportation improvements.

Essential Job Functions

Typical Tasks

• Selects, supervises, trains, motivates, assigns, evaluates, counsels and disciplines subordinate personnel;
• Supervises office and field survey activities;
• Advises survey staff regarding methods and techniques of surveying;
• Provides direction to the Survey Department's Record Drawing Group as needed;
• Coordinates surveying activities with real estate agents, engineers, inspectors, contractors, etc.;

• Interprets legal descriptions of real property;
• Uses AutoCAD, Softdesk, and other computer aided design software in the development of maps and calculations;

• Prepares clear and comprehensive reports and technical correspondences;
• Performs technical surveying work as required including GPS surveying, running level loops, and producing maps and legal descriptions;
• Performs related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Employment Standards
Sufficient training, education, and experience to demonstrate possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Development of the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is typically obtained through training and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major work in surveying science, engineering or a related field and a minimum of eight (8) years of technical surveying experience, at least three (3) years of which must have been in a position comparable to that of a field surveying Chief of Party and/or office surveying "Lead" Land Surveyor. Directly related experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year for year basis.

Registration as a Professional Land Surveyor in the State of California or equivalent is required at the time of appointment.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) is seeking to fill 16 full-time Maintenance Assistant positions.

The Maintenance Assistant total salary range is $24.74 to $31.56 hourly or $51,459.20 to $65,644.80 annually . The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates' qualifications and experience.

The Infrastructure Maintenance Division of DOT is looking to fill 16 full-time vacant positions. These positions perform work in the maintenance and repair of concrete, pavement, sewers, landscaping, traffic signs, and traffic markings. Duties include digging holes, trenches, and ditches. They also operate a wide range of hand, mechanical, and power tools, as well as a variety of light and heavy vehicles, trucks, and equipment relevant to work performed, ensuring compliance with safe working practices. Maintenance crews provide services seven days a week. Individuals in this classification may be required to work alternate work shifts, including grave and swing, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call.

You will work to support community steering committees and other community partners determine how to best improve air quality and reduce health disparities while centering equity and addressing environmental justice. To be successful in this role, you must be a strong team player, have strong communication, project management and analytical skills, and be able to work with people of varied backgrounds and perspectives, including low-income communities of color and communities overburdened by air pollution. • Lead the development and delivery of new and innovative policies, programs and projects to accelerate emission and exposure reductions in communities most disproportionately impacted by air pollution.
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with community-based organizations, community members, local governments, regional, state and federal agencies to develop and implement local and regional air quality plans and programs.
• Lead collaborative projects and programs that actively engage staff from other Divisions to advanced local community health protection goals and objectives in overburdened, low-income, and communities of color.
• Guide difficult, sensitive or high visibility projects, including updates to the Air District California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) Thresholds of Significance, Air Quality Guidelines, and supporting tools and technical guidance.
• Prepare and make presentations to Air District staff, Committees and Board of Directors, as well as members of the public, other stakeholders and community organizations.
• Lead and support efforts to achieve local, regional, state and federal air quality planning objectives through land use and transportation planning, policy research and development, and technical analyses and reports.
• Respond to inquiries from governmental officials, consultants, and the public related to CEQA, air quality, and other environmental planning issues.
• Coordinate the review of environmental impact assessments prepared by other agencies pursuant to CEQA and assist other Divisions in the preparation of Air District Lead Agency CEQA documents.

THE POSITION: The City Manager’s Office at the City of San Mateo has an opportunity for an intern to work on a number of projects. The Department, which has program managers that work on Sustainability, Volunteering, Economic Development, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Communications, work on special projects directed by the City Manager and Assistant City Manager. The Student Intern will receive primary supervision from the Department Head, and project specific direction from the supervisor/manager primarily responsible for each specific project. DUTIES: The primary projects will most likely include the following:

• Program Improvement. Research and prepare findings reports on the effectiveness of our volunteer and ESL City Government Academy programs. Identify best practices and ways to improve both programs to attract and retain more volunteers and participants.
• Age-Friendly Business Certification. Assist in administering a pilot program to promote and inform businesses about the City’s Age-Friendly Business program and certify businesses as “age-friendly”.
• Event Support Assistance. Provide on-site support to help special community events with registration, attendee questions, event setup and other work as needed.
• Emergency Preparedness Planning. Assist in the Citywide effort to plan and prepare for natural disasters, public health emergencies, and other emergencies impacting the community or region.
In addition, the intern may work on a variety of other projects depending upon their time and interests.

THE POSITION

Under supervision of the Public Works Manager, the Maintenance Worker I performs entry level unskilled, semi-skilled, or skilled labor in construction, maintenance, and related service activities applied to the areas of general landscaping, grounds maintenance and street maintenance.

 TYPICAL TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Grounds Maintenance:  Operate mowers and other equipment and tools for purposes of cutting grass, trimming trees and shrubs, and planting and transplanting flowers, bulbs, shrubs, and trees.
• Storm Prevention Maintenance:  Assist in cleaning ditches, culverts, and storm drains.
• Street Maintenance: Assist in repainting of pavement markings, basic pothole, and street repair; installation and repair of street signs and markers; mixing and application of Class III pesticide materials.
• Vehicle/Equipment Maintenance:  Assist in the care, maintenance and cleaning of vehicles, tools, and equipment.
• General:  Contact residents concerning maintenance and service problems; refer complaints and requests to proper supervisory personnel. Assist supervisory personnel in preparing and maintaining proper records and logs. Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service.

QUALIFICATIONS

The general knowledge of basic construction methods, materials and terminology, standard hand tools, light equipment, and light vehicles; general knowledge of basic safety precautions and practices necessary in working with hand tools, light equipment, and vehicles; general knowledge of basic methods and practices involved in the care of shrubs, trees and flowers. Ability to learn technically complex construction and maintenance procedures in water systems, streets, parks and building maintenance; use hand and power tools; perform heavy manual labor for extended periods of time under inclement weather conditions; work alone or with small groups.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Possession of a valid California driver's license and ability to maintain a satisfactory driving history.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Completion of high school or its equivalent, or completion of a trade or vocational school.  Some directly related experience is desirable.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

• Monthly Salary: $4,855 to $6,269 per month. Placement within the range will be based upon the selected candidate’s experience and salary history.
