DEFINITION

Under close supervision, performs a variety of routine, heavy labor and unskilled manual tasks; learns to perform the more skilled tasks of the assigned division; and operates motorized equipment in a training capacity.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the entry-level class for Water System Operator and Street Maintenance & Sewer Collection System Operator positions in both the Water and Street, Sewer & Downtown Divisions.  Employees hired in either of these positions may reasonably expect promotion to the Water System Operator or Street Maintenance & Sewer Collection System Operator classes upon completion of one year's satisfactory service, completion of probation, and for the Streets, Storm Drains and Sewer Divisions, obtaining a class B driver’s license, passing a CWEA Grade 1 test, and for the Water Division, passing a DHS Grade D-1 test.

Street, Sewer & Downtown Division

Essential Duties:

Works with the following crews: Sign and Paint Crew; Paving Crew; Pothole Crew; Service Repair Crew; Pump Station Maintenance and Repair Crew; Sweeper Pile Crew; Sewer Rodder Crew and Hydro Jet Crew. Assists in laying pipe and sewer lines; sweeps and cleans roadsides, gutters, curbs, culverts, catch basins and other drainage structures; removes debris and undergrowth; assists in setting forms and mixing and pouring concrete; assists in raking, smoothing and tamping repaired patches; assists in the maintenance of mechanical equipment; assists in the layout of traffic patterns on streets and in the operation of painting equipment; cleans mechanical equipment and basic tools used on the job. Assists in maneuvering and driving hydro-jet truck and other equipment associated with this operation. Assists in preventative maintenance and unblocking of sewers using mechanical and hydro-jetting.

Other Duties: Serves as flag person when working in traffic and works in confined spaces.

Water Division

Essential Duties:

Assists in laying pipe and water lines; assists in making taps and connections to mains; assists in the maintenance of mechanical equipment; cleans mechanical equipment and maintains basic tools used on the job.

Other Duties: Serve as flag person when working in traffic; read water meters and assist water service worker; work in confined spaces.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (The following are minimal qualifications necessary for entry into the classification.)     

Knowledge of: 

Uses and purposes of designated hand tools employed in basic laboring work, safety precautions and practices, basic math and sufficient English to follow instructions and learn to write work reports.

Ability to:

Learn safety practices necessary in working on public thoroughfares; learn geography of the city; read and interpret plans and city block book maps; take notes and instructions and complete them accordingly; learn to perform semi-skilled and skilled duties in the assigned division. 

Skills: 

Ability to safely and efficiently use air and hand tools, hydraulic tools, jackhammers, and power and automotive equipment in a training capacity.

License: 

Possession of a valid Class C driver's license issued by the DMV, and the ability to obtain a Class B driver's license upon the end of a one-year probationary period.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Street, Sewer & Downtown Division

Ability to perform heavy manual labor including lifting and carrying heavy objects for short distances weighing up to ninety (90) pounds, including manhole covers; perform the pulling, pushing, twisting and bending needed for rodding sewer; work outdoors in adverse weather; perform pick and shovel work in digging, widening and backfilling; assist in the cleaning of sewers which includes working in raw sewage.

Ability to stand and walk for considerable periods of time; twist the upper body; perform moderate amounts of crouching, stooping, and squatting. Ability to climb ladders and to climb into confined spaces; to work weekends and evenings as necessary, and to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Sufficient vision, hearing and stamina to perform the above job duties, and use of proper safety and hearing equipment when using noisy and dangerous equipment.

Water Division

DESCRIPTION

The City of Thousand Oaks has an excellent opportunity for a Landscape Maintenance Worker I/II in the Public Works department.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Perform skilled work in the pruning, care, and maintenance of trees and grounds maintenance, including chemical application duties
• Perform heavy manual labor in the care and maintenance of trees and in performing grounds maintenance
• Install, repair, and program irrigation systems and controllers
• Perform graffiti removal
• Perform routine and emergency work from an aerial lift bucket
• Assist in overseeing the work of contractors
• Assist with encampment and abandoned property clean-up efforts (e.g. supporting police personnel in non-enforcement and enforcement situations, or contracted services by posting, documenting, collecting, storing and/or disposing of private property or debris)

The City of San Carlos has an opportunity for a full-time Maintenance Worker to work in their Public Works Department. This classification performs a variety of routine, heavy labor and semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of public works facilities, City parks, and City buildings.

Essential Duties

• Perform daily safety checks and routine maintenance of equipment to ensure it is safe for use.
• Use proper techniques for operation of equipment and tools in a safe manner, according to accepted City procedures.
• Operate maintenance equipment and tools such as trucks, power tools, sewer rodder, hydraulic jet rodder/vacuum truck, loader backhoe, compressor, boom truck, CCTV truck, pneumatic and electro-mechanical controls, and related equipment and tools for a variety of construction and maintenance operations.
• Perform on-call duties and work in emergency situations as required.
• Install, repair and modify pump station machinery and controls.
• Check pump stations for proper operation; troubleshoot and remedy malfunctions and stoppages.
• Read and interpret maps of underground sewer and drainage systems.
• Paint traffic markings on streets, crosswalks, parking lots, and curbs; operate airless line striping equipment.
• Manufacture and install traffic signs and remove signs no longer required.
• Design and manufacture special signs for municipal facilities.
• Install and remove traffic barricades and cones as required.
• Repair surface failures, utility cuts, chuckholes and seals cracks in asphalt pavements properly and competently.
• Break out and replace concrete sidewalks and gutters using a concrete saw, pavement breaker, wooden forms, and hand tools to finish the surface.
• Clean sanitary sewer lines using hand tools, a hydraulic jet rodder/vacuum and mechanical rodder.
• Excavate, remove, and install sanitary sewer pipes utilizing hand tools, power tools such as pneumatic pavement breakers, compaction equipment and loader backhoe.
• Repair storm drains, catch basins and storm drain pipes.
• Drive dump trucks to haul material to and from the job sites.
• Rake leaves, shovel and digs holes.
• Pick up and dispose of trash and debris from parks and roadsides.
• Control the growth of weeds in lawn areas, shrub areas and flower beds using hand tools, spray equipment and weed eaters.
• Trim trees, hedges, and shrubs using appropriate equipment, remove debris.
• Check irrigation sprinkler systems and ensures their proper functioning, by cleaning and adjusting heads and digging up and repairing broken lines.
• Clean City's park buildings by sweeping and mopping floors, carpets, and cleaning restroom facilities. Replaces light bulbs.
• Provide set up of tables and chairs for City functions.

The Deputy Probation Officer I/II/III position in the Probation Department will investigate cases of juvenile delinquency or dependency and adult applicants for probation; supervise and counsel juveniles and adults on probation; prepares reports and recommendations for court. Provides professional casework services to adult and juvenile offenders involving the referral, supervision and rehabilitation of juveniles and adults on probation; and provides advocacy and related services to victims of crimes. The Deputy Probation Officer III is the advanced journey level position in the class. This position is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Prepares and presents reports and recommendations regarding juveniles and adults for the Superior Court.
• Investigates violations of the law by juveniles and adults, and prepares a variety of reports to the court on individuals under the jurisdiction of the court.
• Analyzes and uses information gathered by interviewing the accused and others involved in a case to assess client needs; develops a supervision plan designed to achieve desired behavioral changes; prepares progress reports.
• Arrests juvenile/adult probationers, or makes arrangements through law enforcement agencies for the arrest of juvenile/adult probationers who violate the law or terms of probation; physically restrains juvenile/adult probationers when necessary.
• Makes financial arrangements for the collection and distribution of fines, restitution and other payments.

The Maintenance Worker performs a variety of tasks related to the care and maintenance of City facilities and equipment. There is currently one (1) vacancy which will be filled at either the Maintenance Worker I or II level, depending on the incumbent’s training and experience.

The Maintenance Worker performs a variety of janitorial duties, including semi-skilled and unskilled carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, basic mechanical, and general building maintenance tasks; Operates various tools and facility equipment, including but not limited to carpentry tools, plumbing tools, HVAC and electrical testing equipment, and related equipment as required; Performs routine maintenance on facility equipment as needed, and other related duties.

The normal work week will be a 9/80 schedule (9-hour days Monday-Thursday, 8-hour Friday with every other Friday off).

This position is a working level civilian class in law enforcement, performing a variety of        non-sworn duties in support of law enforcement activities.  Incumbents may perform civil, code enforcement, and criminal services including a variety of routine to more complex non-sworn law enforcement and crime prevention work including patrolling assigned areas, answering calls for service and complaints, serving civil papers, providing court room security; and enforcing local ordinances related to public safety and welfare.  As a County Services Officer he/she will enforce Division 14 of the Agricultural Code of the State of California and enforce the County ordinance governing the animal and rabies control program, in an effort to maintain public safety and welfare.  This position is scheduled for forty (40) hours per week.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Process and serve documents involved in civil actions including summons, complaints, claims of plaintiffs and orders; declarations and orders of examinations, Notice of Entries of Judgments, civil and criminal subpoenas, Notice to Vacate Rental Premise and process writs of execution including the preparation of orders for wage garnishment. Works with other law enforcement agencies in matters related to the investigation of crimes and apprehension of offenders.

• Prepares various reports and case files on investigations, issues citations and warnings for violations of ordinances; files charges with District Attorney as appropriate; testifies and presents evidence in court.
• Performs general office work as required, including but not limited to preparing reports, maintaining records and files, and entering computer data.

Glenn County is recruiting an individual to fill a full time position in the Public Works Agency. The Public Works Maintenance Worker I/II/III position performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled labor in the construction, maintenance and repair of County roads, bridges, and other related structures, and in various traffic control maintenance and  repair activities of the Public Works Agency; operates a variety of construction, maintenance and transportation equipment as necessary to complete daily tasks at the Glenn County Public Works Agency. The Public Works Maintenance Worker III position is the journey-level class in the series, and is distinguished from the Public Works Maintenance Worker II by the primary responsibility to operate heavy diesel and gasoline-powered construction equipment in the maintenance of roadways, drainage systems. 
 

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Prepares roads for patch repairs, overlays, or chip seals; prepares mix for patching roads; repairs and reconstructs roads.
• Cleans roadsides and drainage systems; inspects and clears debris from drainage systems; conducts roadside burning as needed.
• Prunes trees and other vegetation as needed.
• Directs and controls traffic around work sites.
• Operates semi-trucks, dump trucks, water trucks, boom truck, front loader, rollers, snow plow, etc.; operates a compressor, sand blasters, jack hammer, chipper machine, welding equipment, cutting torch, compaction tools, weed eater, blower, and other hand and power tools.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The City of Mill Valley is seeking an enthusiastic and dependable individual to join our team as a Maintenance Worker I in the Facilities Division. This position will be assigned to the Community Center and Aquatics & Fitness Center where you will play a vital role in keeping our recreational spaces safe, clean, and welcoming for all visitors.

The Maintenance Worker I classification is designed for individuals who are beginning or growing their careers in facilities maintenance. Employees in this role start under general supervision while learning a wide range of facility maintenance tasks. As skills and experience develop, greater independence in daily assignments is encouraged and expected. At the Community Center/Aquatics & Fitness Center, you will assist with building maintenance, respond to service requests, work directly with staff and the public, and support the operation of key amenities including the pool, spa, and kitchen facilities. Your work will help ensure that this important facility continues to operate smoothly and safely for community members of all ages.

Essential Duties (include but are not limited to): 

• Inspect Community Center/Aquatics & Fitness Center facilities regularly for safety issues, repair needs, and custodial concerns
• Troubleshoot and complete basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting tasks including fixture replacement, minor repairs, and surface preparation
• Perform custodial work such as trash removal, cleaning, vacuuming, window washing, and moving or rearranging equipment or furniture
• Perform minor maintenance on building systems including heating and air conditioning units, flooring, gutters, and downspouts
• Assist with room and event setup as needed.
• Respond to maintenance service requests from departments and address public concerns related to facility upkeep
• Collaborate with outside contractors when required
• Maintain accurate logs of maintenance activities, repairs, and supply needs

The City of San Mateo Public Works Department is looking for a Maintenance Worker I-II

The Public Works Department is comprised of the Engineering and Facilities Services Division (EFSD) and the Environmental Services Division (ESD). Each division is led by a Deputy Director reporting to the Director of Public Works. The department is responsible for the City’s major capital projects and infrastructure including streets, street lights, traffic signals, sewer and storm conveyance systems, wastewater treatment plant, pump stations, a major lagoon, and dams and levees. What You'll Do

The Maintenance Worker position may be filled at either the I or II level based on experience. The Maintenance Worker will perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sidewalks, signs, sewers, storm drains, pump stations, traffic signal and street light equipment, traffic systems, or municipal buildings; and to do related work as required. Some of the duties of this position are as follows:

• Operate construction and maintenance equipment such as backhoes, motorgraders, boom trucks, tractors, vac-all and small sweepers, and skip loaders for a variety of construction and maintenance operations involving streets, sidewalks and gutters, sewer lines, and drainage channels.
• Use concrete cutting and braking equipment; operate a jackhammer; pour and finish concrete; construct concrete forms and perform rough carpentry work.
• Operate maintenance equipment and tools such as trucks, power tools, sewer rodder, hydraulic jet cleaner, vac-all, front loader, backhoe, compressor, sandblaster, power wench, boom truck, cc TV unit, main and auxiliary pumps, pneumatic and electro-mechanical controls, diesel power plants, and related equipment and tools.
• Assist pump mechanics to install, repair and modify pump station machinery and control.
• Paint traffic markings on streets, crosswalks, parking lots, and curbs; operate a striping truck.
• Assist in performing a variety of routine electrical maintenance and repair tasks.
• Assist in trash and debris control activities such as picking up of litter and other street maintenance activities as required or when weather does not permit sweeping operations.
