The City of San Mateo Public Works Department is seeking a Traffic and Lighting Technician

The Department

The Public Works Department is comprised of the Engineering and Facilities Services Division (EFSD) and the Environmental Services Division (ESD). Each division is led by a Deputy Director reporting to the Director of Public Works. The department is responsible for the City’s major capital projects and infrastructure including streets, street lights, traffic signals, sewer and storm conveyance systems, wastewater treatment plant, pump stations, a major lagoon, and dams and levees. A key player on this team is the Traffic and Lighting Technician. The Position

The Traffic and Lighting Technician performs skilled electrical and mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of traffic control signage, traffic signal equipment, and street lights; and guides the work of and trains other maintenance personnel, and performs related work as required.  Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Guide and participate in the work of other maintenance personnel.  Ability to set-up work zone safety and prepare traffic control work plans.
• Inspect, install, remove, and repair signal controls and auxiliary equipment such as light standards, control boxes, light fixtures, lamps, and circuitry; diagnose malfunctions; adjust and replace electronic and mechanical components.
• Inspect, install, remove and repair street lights and auxiliary equipment.
• Repair, replace or modify electric and electronic components, controllers, relays, switches, fuses, timers and other parts; design and construct special test equipment for shop testing of electronic components.
• Investigate complaints and reports of signal and traffic light malfunctions; adjust, repair or remove defective equipment; make field repairs of damaged equipment.
• Identify, locate and indicate with appropriate identification markers underground utilities (USA); respond to USA work orders within regulatory requirements; and document services accordingly.
• Be available for standby assignments in accordance with Department policies and procedures.
• Assist in the design of electrical circuits and systems for street lighting and traffic signals.
• Inspect the work of contractors during the course of construction and upon completion.
• Monitor traffic control computer and make adjustments as necessary.

The Traffic and Lighting Technician receives general direction from the Field Maintenance Manager and direct supervision from a Public Works Supervisor or higher level department staff and may exercise technical or functional direction over and provide work review to a Traffic Safety Worker or Maintenance Worker I/II.

Program Assistant - Receptionist

Salary Range: $18.52 - $30.68/hour, depending on experience.

DEFINITION

Perform a wide variety of general clerical and/ or operational support duties at the Danville Community Center and/ or Senior Center. Incumbent serves as the facility receptionist, assisting with customer service-related questions and issues, and directing callers and visitors according to established procedures.
 

• This is a part-time temporary, non-benefitted position.
• 0-20 hours per week; not-to-exceed 950 hours per calendar year.

SUPERVISION

Direct supervision is received from the Administrative Assistant with indirect supervision from the Recreation Superintendent. May exercise supervision of part-time personnel and volunteers as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Essential duties are inclusive of, but not limited to the following:

• Serve as first point of contact with the public; responds to information requests regarding services, classes, and events offered by the Town by email, in person or over the phone.
• Perform a wide variety of routine office duties to support department operations including filing, preparing basic reports, and program registration.
• Register participants, and support facility reservations using Active Net software.
• Performs cash handling duties, process payments, and issue receipts. 
• Assist in proofreading the Activity Guide and other marketing materials.
• Communicate with a variety of department staff to resolve customer inquiries.
• Provide support on special projects, and perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be able to handle multiple tasks, have strong computer skills and excellent customer service skills. Must be able to work a flexible schedule throughout the year.

Knowledge of:

• Correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
• Modern office methods, procedures and equipment, including office automation hardware and software.
• File management.
• Word processing (Microsoft Word) and data processing systems, including Microsoft Outlook.

Experience:

One (1) year of experience performing standard clerical and secretarial duties. Prior experience as a receptionist in a related field preferred.

Education:

The equivalent of the successful completion of the twelfth grade; some college experience preferred.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Business Operations Coordinator (BOC) is responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring efficient systems to manage the District’s business office, properties, entrepreneurial enterprises, service and vendor contracts, media management, and IT support services. This includes ensuring compliance with regulatory mandates, facility requirements, and workplace safety.

The BOC is a full-time exempt position that reports directly to the CEO.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. 1. Provides comprehensive administrative and operational support to ensure effective implementation and community impact.
   1. Coordinates District-sponsored and community outreach events—in both virtual and in-person formats—in collaboration with District leadership.
   2. Provides oversight of the District office operations to identify opportunities to improve efficiencies, inventory and supplies management, document, and key security, tracking annual policy review and report filing requirements, and utilization of classroom facilities.
   3. Maintains a clean, well-organized office environment for team and visitors.
   4. Assists the Strategic Initiatives Director in managing the Community Health Investment portfolio, including utilizing and maintaining the District’s grant management software to track and support the community grants program.
   5. Oversees and manages district office operations and leasing budgets.
   6. Maintains IT services, triaging issues, tracking performance of various pieces of equipment, and helping identify IT issues that may benefit from more user training.
   7. Assists with accounting tasks as directed by CEO, including processing bank deposits and printing checks with Staff Accountant.
   8. Maintains a system for managing and regularly auditing vendor contracts to ensure compliance with performance obligations and identify opportunities for cost and service improvements.
   9. Contributes to the overall success of the District by providing support to programs and initiatives as assigned by the CEO.
2. Serving as primary PHCD contact for tenants, property manager, and vendors serving the eight District-owned properties This includes such activities as:
   1. Tracks lease terms and rent increases and taking timely, appropriate actions via Doorloop.
   2. Maintains effective tenant relationships with professionals and their staff.
   3. Establishes and carrying out a preventative maintenance program for all buildings in collaboration with the CFO and property manager.
   4. Primary liaison for facilities consultants
   5. Makes periodic rounds to ensure tenants are compliant with their property maintenance obligations.
   6. Works with leasing agent when a vacancy occurs.
3. Overseeing and strengthening all District communication channels, ensuring consistency, compliance, and effective public engagement.
   1. Manages all District websites are compliant with regulatory and special district transparency requirements, content is current, and sites are “user-friendly”
   2. Serves as primary liaison with the District’s communications and website professionals
   3. Serves as primary point person for coordinating, producing, and tracking analytics of external communications for websites, e-newsletter, social media, and related materials, in collaboration with the CEO, Directors, and District communications and marketing professionals.
4. In the absence of the Executive Assistant:
   1. Provides administrative support to Board Members, Board Committees, including scheduling meetings, preparing and distributing noticed meeting materials, and coordinating meeting logistics.
   2. Supports the CEO and Board with daily calendar management, communications, event and conference bookings, annual board policy review, staff meetings, and District transparency recertifications.
5. And all other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Experience supporting administrative staff
• Working for or with government/public agencies in California (preferred, not required)
• Experience with a range of standard office equipment
• Experience with technology modalities, including setting up of devices and light technology troubleshooting
• Excellent experience with PC/ including Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Google
• Suite, Adobe Pro, WordPress, BoardDocs, Mailchimp, and virtual teleconferencing platforms (Zoom, Teams, Google)
• Ability to work with a wide variety of constituents and public elected leaders
• Ability to maintain a professional and calm demeanor in all settings
• Valid CA Driver’s license and a vehicle form of transportation

EDUCATION AND BACKGROUND
Associates degree or 2+ years of office experience. Experience working for an administrative
office, government agency or local municipality is highly desirable.

COMPENSATION & BENEFIT S
This is a full-time position. Compensation range based on experience: $55,000 - $85,000.
DOE. In addition, Peninsula Health Care District benefits include: CalPers Pension, CalPers
Health, Delta Dental Plan, VSP Vision Plan and Life Insurance as well as 10 paid holidays
during the year. Accrued PTO- (eligible for up to 13 days in the first year of employment).

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Equipment Parts Technician in the Public Works Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to plan, monitor, and manage the ordering, purchasing, storing, billing, issuing and maintenance control of equipment parts, accessories and supplies utilized in the service and repair of the City vehicles and equipment and to perform other related duties.

There are two shop locations – one at the Corporation Yard which focuses on light duty vehicles and one at the Transfer Station which focuses on heavy duty vehicles. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is equivalent to graduation from high school and two (2) years of experience ordering, purchasing, issuing, and maintaining electronic inventory systems for heavy equipment parts and/or automotive parts and accessories.

Other requirements include possessing a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Frequent walking, standing, sitting, kneeling, squatting, twisting, and bending at the waist. Ability to hear automotive sounds, read fine print, and view a computer monitor. Sufficient strength and stamina to lift and transport parts weighing up to 80 pounds. Manual dexterity for detailed mechanical work and computer use. 

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed indoors and outdoors with exposure to hot and cold environments. Noise level ranges from moderate to high. Potential exposure to hazardous materials and emergency conditions. Must be available to work evening and weekend shifts.

The City of Redwood City invites you to apply for the position of High School or College Summer intern for the Community Development Department. This employment opportunity is excellent for a well-organized “people person” seeking some summer work experience and getting exposure to government and specifically to work in the Community Development Department.

The primary responsibility of this position is to help with document scanning, managing mail outs, answering phones, data entry and document preparation. The position will also be able to shadow planners and building staff on counter duties, attend meetings, and assist staff on planning projects as schedule permits.

This summer intern position is a non-benefited casual position. This casual position work schedule will vary (as needed) between 15-20 hours per week and will be in-person on three days between Monday-Thursday. The position start and end date are flexible based on applicant’s needs but generally anticipated to last a maximum of 10 weeks.

This position performs a variety of work in the monitoring of county, state and federal detainees and maintains the security and safety of inmates and staff.
