PARAPROFESSIONAL TEMP - INTERN

THE ROLE AND PROJECTS:
Reporting to the Economic Development Program Manager, the Intern will be engaged in project-based work to advance key economic development strategic initiatives.  Examples of the work include, but are not limited to the following:

• Implement tasks outlined in the San Rafael Economic Development Strategic Plan.
• Develop a business support communications plan in collaboration with business support partners.
• Support Division Manager to activate outreach to businesses.
• Learn and assist with contract management.
• Evaluate resources available to various business groups through an equity lens.  Research strategies for business support for underserved sectors in San Rafael.
• Support activation of the Downtown San Rafael Arts District Strategic Plan.
• Administrative tasks as assigned.

HOURS, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
This position will work approximately 12-20 hours per week.  The candidate will have hands-on learning and work experience at San Rafael City Hall and outreach in the community.

This is a temporary position and hours worked may not exceed 1,000 hours in a fiscal year (July 1 thru June 30).

In accordance with the salary resolution, this position receives no benefits with the exception of Paid Sick Leave and a retirement plan.  

• Temporary employees are entitled to receive sick leave in accordance with California's Paid Sick Leave Law (AB 1522).
• Participation in a retirement plan is mandated by Federal Law and you will be enrolled in the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS):
  • Employee contributes 3.75% of salary

We're seeking an Industrial Hygienist to join our Safety & Health team at the San Francisco International Airport (SFO). In this position, you'll handle challenging industrial hygiene tasks related to hazardous materials and other health and environmental risks at the Airport. You'll independently conduct regular monitoring of chemical, biological, and physical agents, while also serving as a technical expert and consultant in implementing occupational safety and health regulations. Your responsibilities include assessing industrial hygiene data concerning public health matters, designing and delivering occupational health and safety training sessions, responding to and assessing hazardous materials incidents, conducting ergonomic assessments, and fulfilling any other related duties as needed.

Essential Duties: 

• Serves as a technical advisor to departmental management and other personnel in identifying, containing, and regulating the use and storage of hazardous materials; in developing and implementing inspection practices and procedures.
• Investigates and evaluates health and safety hazards and coordinates remedial action with representatives from various City and County departments, other agencies, businesses, and the public; conducts surveys of potentially hazardous workplace operations, including monitoring for physical, biological, and chemical agents, evaluating results, recommending corrective actions and preparing reports.
• Anticipates, identifies, evaluates, and controls occupational safety and health and environmental hazards for personnel working in proximity to hazardous waste remediation or hazardous materials.
• Develops, modifies, and/or maintains health and safety programs for City and County of San Francisco personnel.
• Develop policies and procedures for responding to hazardous materials incidents and implementation of environmental health and safety laws, codes, and regulations.
• Develops and conducts health and safety training, and conducts programs concerning the proper use, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and the regulation of hazardous materials according to law.
• Performs assessments to identify and resolve ergonomic issues in a variety of work settings.
• Advises program and departmental management on matters about public health and safety, the handling and containment of hazardous materials incidents, and evaluation procedures.
• Provides technical support in identifying, preventing, and controlling health, environmental, and safety hazards.
• Coordinates compliance with applicable laws, policies, procedures, and regulations.
• Assists in administrative tasks related to the implementation of ordinances, codes, and other regulations.
• Maintains technical reference materials and records compiles data and prepares reports.
• Maintains Respiratory Protection Program, including recommending appropriate respiratory protection, fit testing, and coordinating medical examinations, and maintaining records.
• Conducts and participates in meetings with professional and business groups concerning industrial hygiene and hazardous materials matters.
• Leads industrial hygiene programs – hazard communication, hearing conservation, exposure control, hazardous waste, respiratory protection, ergonomics, radiofrequency
• May supervise industrial hygiene, health and safety, environmental, and/or support staff.

These minimum qualifications establish the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license(s) which are required for employment in the classification. Education:

Possession of a Master's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Safety and Health; Environmental Sciences, Health, or Management; or a closely related field from an accredited college or university. Applicant’s college level (undergraduate or masters) coursework must include a minimum of 6 semesters of any combination of chemistry, biology, and/or physics.

Experience:

Two (2) years of professional industrial experience equivalent to the level of City and County of San Francisco classes 6137 Assistant Industrial Hygienist or higher, which must have included professional industrial hygiene activities including either hazardous materials management or identification, evaluation, and control of occupational health hazards, such as noise, radiation, asbestos, various chemicals, etc.

License and Certification:

Possession of a valid driver's license; if not a California driver's license ability to obtain a California Driver’s License within 45 days of hire.

Substitution:

Possession of a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences, Health, or Management; Occupational Safety & Health; or in a closely related major (examples include but are not limited to toxicology; chemistry, physics; biology; or mechanical, chemical, or environmental engineering) which includes a minimum of 6 semesters of any combination of chemistry, biology, and/or physics, if accompanied by three (3) years of professional industrial experience equivalent to the level of City and County of San Francisco classes 6137 Assistant Industrial Hygienist or higher, which must have included professional industrial hygiene activities including either hazardous materials management or identification, evaluation, and control of occupational health hazards, such as noise, radiation, asbestos, various chemicals, etc.

OR

The City of Sausalito Police Department is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Police Community Service and Evidence Technician. This vital role supports our mission to maintain public safety and maintaining evidence, as well as enforcement of parking rules and regulations

This is a journey-level non-sworn classification in the Police Department that performs the full range of duties related property and evidence as well as assists the patrol officers with minor evidence collection, reporting writing and responding to related calls for service as needed to effectively provide police services. Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative.

The City of Patterson is currently recruiting to fill one (1) vacancy for a part-time Facility Custodian with the Recreation & Community Services Department and to establish an Eligibility List.

Duties include, but are not limited to: under general supervision, performs routine custodial and cleaning duties in municipal buildings and adjacent grounds; performs related work as assigned.

This is a part time position with hours up to 19 hours per week.  Must be available to work nights and weekends with varying shifts and schedules.  

Under supervision of the Grounds Supervisor and under direction of the Maintenance II, Parks and Grounds lead person, incumbents in this classification work individually or as a member of a parks and grounds crew in the upkeep of City parks, medians, and satellite facilities including bus, equipment, and flora; perform related work as required.

MAINTENANCE TRAINEE – PARKS & GROUNDS

CLASS CHARACTERISITICS:

Maintenance Trainee – Is an entry-level trainee position. Incumbents learn to perform the full scope of duties of the Maintenance I class. This class is alternately staffed with Maintenance I and incumbents may advance to the higher-level class after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency which meet the qualifications of the higher-level class.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (illustrative only):

• Inspect, clean, repair, and maintain City parks and trail system to ensure facilities are safe and usable; inspect, clean, and stock park restrooms; remove refuse from City garbage cans.
• Plant, cultivate, and provide upkeep for City landscapes and parks; mow lawns, replant vegetation, and prune trees, shrubs, and ground covers.
• Prepare and apply pesticides, growth regulators, and fertilizers; identify and appropriately label the containers when using these materials; document materials used.

The Maintenance I classification represents the journey-level within the Parks and Grounds Maintenance class series. Individuals within this class exhibit comprehensive proficiency in independently carrying out a spectrum of Parks & Grounds maintenance responsibilities. This entails not only performing tasks such as inspecting, cleaning, repairing, and maintaining City parks, landscape areas, and trail systems, but also making informed decisions regarding safety and usability. StopWaste is hiring an Energy Council Program Services Specialist to work on Bay Area Regional Energy Network (BayREN) programs. The position will conduct community outreach and engage with stakeholders to make energy upgrades and electrify multifamily and single family buildings in Alameda County and the larger Bay Area. It will also work on growing and strengthening the clean energy workforce to help achieve energy and climate goals. The ideal candidate will have deep experience engaging and developing relationships with community partners. To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sidewalks, signs, water meters, sewers, storm drains, pump stations and tree maintenance. 

The purpose of this recruitment is to hire a Temporary / Part-Time position.  Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications for the Maintenance Worker I position may be considered for employment as an Intern.  Temporary / Part-Time employees work no more than 130 hours per month AND 960 hours per fiscal year. Typical work schedule will be three 8-hour shifts per week, excluding weekends and evenings.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate for this position should have previous Road Maintenance experience; sidewalks, driveways, roads, curbs, and gutters, although not required. The Ideal Candidate will be able to follow directions, demonstrate good communication skills (orally and in writing), be flexible, arrive on time, have good attendance, a positive attitude, be able to work independently with limited supervision, and a willingness to take on and learn new skills. Possessing a Class B commercial Driver’s license is desired, though not required upon hire. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Operate a variety of light and moderately heavy construction and maintenance equipment including such pieces as a loader, dump truck, water truck, rubber-tired and steel rollers, rubber-tired tractor with all attachments (except backhoe attachment), striping equipment, and trencher in order to perform a variety of routine construction and maintenance operations.  Spread asphalt in patching and repairing streets.  Use concrete cutting equipment; operate a jackhammer; pour and finish concrete; construct concrete forms and perform rough carpentry work.  Paint and install traffic markings on streets, crosswalks, parking lots, and curbs; operate a striping truck; manufacture and install traffic signs and remove signs no longer required.  Install and remove traffic control barricades and cones.  Assist in a variety of tree maintenance activities including low limb, stump routing, tree watering, and tree planting.  Utilize proper safety precautions and comply with policies and procedures in the Department Illness and Injury Prevention Program.  Operate equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates.  Regular and consistent attendance.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Respond to inquiries from the general public.  Clean storm grates and drains.  Perform work in emergency situations as required.  Perform minor and preventive maintenance on paint spraying equipment, compressors, sprayers, compactors, and other construction equipment.  Work cooperatively with others.  Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Maintenance Worker I

Education:  High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience:  One (1) year of work experience in construction or related field.

License or Certificate:  Possession of a valid California Driver's License required upon hire.  Class B permit and DMV Medical Certification are required within three months of hire.  A valid Class B California driver's license, Completion of Work Zone Safety certification issued by the International Municipal Signal Association, First Aid and CPR Certifications required prior to permanent appointment.

BENEFITS

The pay cycle is bi-weekly.  With the exception of worker's compensation coverage and sick leave accrual, no other benefits compensations are provided. Employees must contribute 1.45% of salary to Medicare and 7.5% to a retirement plan in accordance with Federal Law.
