THE POSITION

The position of LANDSCAPE GARDENER performs on a variety of semi-skilled and skilled gardening and turf maintenance in a team-based environment.  The Landscape Gardener will be involved in the development, maintenance and repair of landscaped areas and will operate a variety of landscape maintenance equipment. 

A few typical duties may include the following: 

• Perform general grounds and facility maintenance work such as raking leaves, cleaning walkways, removing debris, and cleaning restrooms.
• Water, weed, trim, renovate and fertilize shrubs, trees, flowerbeds and landscaped areas.
• Maintain and prepare athletic fields.
• Assist in maintenance/installation of irrigation systems and setting clocks.
• Recognize plant pests and diseases.
• Apply herbicides and pesticides.
• Drive vehicles used to transport materials, tools, and equipment as required.
• Operate power equipment; move/install recreation equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance on mowing equipment and tools.
• Operate a computer for automated work systems.
• Respond to inquiries from the public.

The City of San Rafael Library and Recreation Department is now accepting applications for the position of Facilities Attendant (Athletic Fields).    This position is responsible for supervision of athletic fields during assigned work hours while providing a positive and welcoming presence at the park.  The Facilities Attendant serves as an ambassador to park visitors, ensuring renters have access to their permitted spaces, unlocking soccer goals as needed, and promoting responsible use of the facility.  The Facilities Attendant also positively enforces park and field rules, encourages users to clean up after themselves, and helps to maintain a safe, respectful, and enjoyable environment for all.  Bilingual in Spanish is preferred but not required.

Qualifications:

• Ability to provide good customer service 
• Ability to communicate effectively 
• Ability to follow written and oral directions.

About the Position: The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) is seeking a Public Affairs Intern. The intern’s responsibilities include representing Midpen at community events and workshops, creating social media posts and outreach campaigns, creating editorial content such as newsletter articles and videos, providing administrative support such as reviewing and uploading photos to database and other duties as assigned. Work duties will provide training in a broad range of public affairs strategies and activities. Basic Requirements: Current enrollment in an associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree program, or trade school in a relevant field or a recent graduate. Working Conditions/Schedule: Midpen offers a hybrid on-site/telecommute work environment for this position, and will be divided between onsite work, at home remote work and some outdoor work. About the Position: Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) is seeking a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Intern in the Information Systems and Technology (IST) Department. The GIS Intern will perform GIS mapping and analysis tasks in support of land acquisition, open space planning, capital improvement, and resource management activities. Responsibilities include creating maps for District Board reports and presentations; compiling and synthesizing geographic data; developing attribute data for feature classes; performing basic geoprocessing; maintaining and updating GIS databases as new data are collected; preparing, modifying and updating District site maps and brochures; providing graphic support for other departments including the development of maps, charts, displays, presentations, graphics, brochures, and drawings; and collecting field data. The expected start date for this position is November 2025.

Working Conditions/Schedule: This position is based primarily in-office at our Administrative Office in Los Altos, CA, as part of the IST department. While the majority of work will be performed in an office setting, there may be occasional instances of field data collection. These field activities are infrequent but may involve travel in a district vehicle and, at times, working independently in varied outdoor conditions, including remote and rugged terrain with numerous biotic and abiotic hazards during inclement weather. This is a temporary position working 24 – 32 hours per week (within regular business days/hours). Regular business is conducted Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.  Interns may work up to a total of 950 hours over a 7-to-9-month period. What You’ll Do 

The Communications Manager will hone and execute the City of San Mateo’s communication strategy, which will include key actions to enhance community engagement and participation, increase community awareness about City activities and initiatives, foster cross-departmental coordination and unity, standardize media response procedures, improve the website user experience, and standardize training and onboarding for new communications staff.  You will work with our internal team to ensure current, high-quality communications products are available. The Communications Manager reports to the Assistant City Manager and may receive direction from the City Manager, has direct supervisory responsibilities, and will lead collaborative teams. 

Some duties may include:  

• Lead the City’s social media efforts and cross departmental social media team; develop and coordinate implementation of the City’s social media strategy, policies and presence and monitor the City’s online reputation. 

• Develop and implement an integrated strategic communication plan to advance the City’s brand identity and broaden awareness of its programs, priorities and accomplishments; ensure communication strategies are consistent with the City’s strategic plan and vision.
