Strong attention to grant-related requirements and food safety compliance is essential to maintaining program excellence and accountability.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess a valid State of California driver’s license and demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with individuals from diverse backgrounds. This position requires the ability to work independently while receiving direction from a supervisor, as well as the capacity to train, oversee, and collaborate effectively with volunteers and older adults. Strong attention to detail is essential, including the ability to maintain accurate records and submit documentation as required. Proficiency with computers, including experience using Microsoft Word and Excel, is required. Upon hire, the candidate must successfully obtain a State Food Handler Safety Certificate and pass all required background checks. A bilingual pay differential may be available for candidates fluent in identified languages.  Must be available Monday-Friday 10:00am-2:00pm.

Recreation Program Specialist Example Duties:

• Follow reservation protocol/procedure for patrons.
• Review menu provided by caterer, submit nutritional component breakdown to County for grant compliance, and prepare flyers for patron.
• Submit documentation/information associated with County nutrition grant to supervisor.
• Schedule and implement nutritional education for seniors and in-service training for staff and volunteers.
• Serve as liaison with caterer, grant provider and staff/volunteers.
• Implement food safety practices as outlined by the Health Department.
• Prior nutrition experience is desired, but not required. Training will be provided.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City invites you to apply for the position of Equipment Mechanic I/II.  The Equipment Mechanic works within the Equipment Services Section within the Public Works Department, and is responsible for making minor and major mechanical repairs to automotive, diesel and other power-driven equipment, performing routine maintenance and servicing, and performing specialized mechanical and fabrication work as required.  

Equipment Mechanic I:

This is the entry level in the Equipment Mechanic class series. Positions in this class perform mechanical repair work of a routine to moderately complex nature, working under the guidance and training of more experienced mechanics.

Equipment Mechanic II:

This is the full journey level in the Equipment Mechanic class series. Positions assigned to this class perform the full range of journey level automotive and equipment maintenance work typically assigned to Equipment Mechanics. In addition, an Equipment Mechanic II assumes responsibility for providing training for Equipment Mechanic I’s and regularly performs the most complex maintenance and repair work in the shop.

About the Position: Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) is seeking two Engineering & Construction (E&C) Interns in the Engineering & Construction Department. Under close guidance of seasoned project management staff (including licensed engineers and landscape architects), the E&C Interns will support professional level design and construction project management activities, including the design and implementation of capital improvement and natural resource preservation and protection projects; coordinate project related assignments with other Midpen staff, outside consultants, contractors and regulatory agencies; assist with bidding process and construction efforts; and perform related work as required.  The expected start dates for internships are in May or June 2026.  

Basic Requirements: Current enrollment or a recent graduate (within the last 12 months) in an associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree program, or trade school in a relevant field. Successful candidates will have a background in civil or structural engineering, construction management, landscape architecture, or a related field, experience with Microsoft Office suite and AutoCAD; and demonstrated expertise/enthusiasm in project management, construction management, and environmental conservation. This position requires great attention to detail, excellent communication skills, the ability to work well both in team settings and independently, and the willingness to occasionally work in rugged, remote settings.  Knowledge of construction management, landscape design, cost estimating, permitting, utilities, Adobe Creative Suite and Sketchup is a plus. Working Conditions/Schedule: This position will be divided between on-site work, remote office work, and field visits for construction field observations and coordination. Interns will be expected to be in the field anywhere between 3 to 5 days per week.  They will be able to work from home up to 2 days.  Personal protective equipment (hardhat, eye protection, and boots) will be required at construction sites. This position will operate in the E&C Department at Midpen offices in Los Altos, California. Fieldwork is conducted in rural or mountainous Midpen open space areas, which may involve working alone in wild land areas and traversing rough, difficult terrain sometimes with poison oak and dense vegetation. Work may take place during inclement weather conditions. Field work will require driving in remote areas on dirt roads, working in temperatures ranging from cold and blustery to hot and dry. Ideal candidates will be comfortable working in these types of field conditions, as well as in an office environment. Hours of work are flexible and can be designed around academic schedule requirements. This is a temporary position working 20 – 40 hours per week, and will extend up to a total of 950 hours over a 3-9 month period. This is a non-benefited position.

Qualifications:

Applicants must be at least 15 years old and able to obtain a work permit if under the age of 18. Candidates must complete and pass the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification, by June 1, 2026. While not required, Water Safety Instruction (WSI) certification is highly desirable.

Lifeguard Job Responsibilities:

• Ensure Patron Safety: The primary responsibility of a lifeguard is to protect lives by preventing injuries and accidents. This includes remaining alert and vigilant, actively monitoring the pool and surrounding areas, recognizing hazards early, and responding quickly and effectively to emergencies—including water rescues, CPR, and first aid.
• Enforce Rules Consistently: Lifeguards help patrons stay safe by enforcing facility rules fairly and consistently. This involves monitoring behavior, addressing unsafe actions, and educating patrons about safe practices.
• Maintain a Clean and Safe Facility: Lifeguards assist with daily maintenance and cleanliness of the facility. Tasks may include checking and recording chemical levels, organizing and inspecting equipment (including rescue buoy, Shepard's hook, First Aid pack, etc...), picking up trash and debris, and reporting or addressing unsafe facility conditions.
• Availability: Ability to work a minimum 25 hours a week from June 15th – August 9th, including some weekends. Pre-planned and approved vacation requests may be accommodated.

Swim Instructor Job Responsibilities:

• Provide Instruction Across Levels: Teach swim lesson participants across a range of skill levels, following established curriculum and safety standards.
• Ensure Participant Safety: Maintain constant awareness and create a safe learning environment for all participants within your class.
• Maintain Professional Class Operations: Arrive prepared and work all scheduled hours, begin and end classes on time, stay afterward to answer participant or parent questions, and ensure all equipment and supplies are properly cleaned.
• Assess and Support Student Progress: Instruct, observe, and evaluate students’ skills and progress throughout the session, providing clear feedback and guidance.
• Complete Required Documentation: Accurately complete and submit report cards, skills sheets, attendance records, and any other required documentation on time.

THE POSITION

• Perform technical level administrative duties in support of the City’s Below Market-Rate (BMR) Housing Program
• Research, collect, and analyze data and prepare draft reports related to the City’s BMR Program
• Create and manage workflows and administrative procedures for annual compliance monitoring of the City’s BMR portfolio

Incumbents drive a District vehicle along an assigned route. The Position

The Community Services Supervisor is responsible for all aspects of direct coordination and supervision of one or more significant program areas within one of the Community Services Division’s major program Sections, and for assisting the Community Services Section Manager with the overall direction and supervision of the Section. Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Supervise, schedule, train, and evaluate subordinate personnel and volunteers
• Coordinate, promote, implement and evaluate recreation and human services activities as assigned
• Organize and schedule Citywide activities in assigned area of responsibility
• Prepare events’ publicity, including flyers and news releases
• Maintain close contact with school officials, community groups and citizens regarding program implementation
• Perform a variety of office related functions, including the processing of payroll data, registration fees, activity reports, and related records
• Assist in preparing and administering the program budget
• Coordinate and supervise contracts for specialized contractual services
• Participate in teaching recreation classes
• Organize, coordinate, and encourage the formation of clubs, teams, leagues, special events, and specialized programs and services
• Arrange for, and schedule, facilities, transportation, and appropriate activity supervision
• Direct facility operations, including responsibility for the use and maintenance of the facilities.

The Community Services Supervisor receives general supervision from the Community Services Section Manager or other higher level department personnel and exercises direct supervision over full-time and part-time employees, volunteers, clerical, and custodial personnel.
