ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The City of Mill Valley is excited to offer four (4) Seasonal Operations Aide positions, providing one role with multiple pathways to explore public service careers. These positions provide hands on experience supporting essential infrastructure and community services across both the Public Works Department and the Sewerage Agency of Southern Marin, also known as SASM.

Seasonal Operations Aides may be assigned to one of the following teams:

• Public Works – Parks Maintenance Division (2 positions)
• Public Works – Streets & Sewers Division (1 position)
• Sewerage Agency of Southern Marin (SASM) – Maintenance Division (1 position)

DIVISION ASSIGNMENTS AND TYPICAL DUTIES

Parks Maintenance Division with Public Works: Responsibilities may include trash collection, graffiti removal, weed abatement, irrigation repairs, and supervised operation of equipment such as blowers, weed/hedge trimmers, and mowers. Work supports the maintenance of City parks, landscaped areas, trees, and vegetation. 

 

Streets and Sewers Division with Public Works: Responsibilities may include trash collection, graffiti removal, clearing and repairing drainage facilities, street sign repair and replacement, road and curb painting, pothole and asphalt repairs, and related maintenance tasks.

 

Maintenance Division with SASM: Responsibilities may include assisting with maintenance of wastewater treatment equipment and facilities, supporting mechanical repairs, cleaning and preparing work areas, and helping ensure systems operate safely and efficiently. This assignment provides exposure to specialized tools, equipment, and processes used in wastewater treatment operations.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Under close supervision, the Seasonal Operations Aide provides entry-level support to an assigned department or division. This temporary role (up to 180 days) offers hands-on experience in operations, assisting staff with tasks such as maintenance, repair, cleaning, construction, and light equipment use. Duties may vary by program area and can include manual labor and tool handling.

Examples of Essential Job Functions (may include but are not limited to):

• Under direction, assist in the maintenance and upkeep of City facilities including but not limited to: parks, fields, SLP’s, streets, buildings, sewers, pools, playgrounds, and others.
• Under direction, assist in the construction or installation of City infrastructure such as curbs, sidewalks, paths, railings, stairs, signs, etc.
• Under direction, prepare and maintain work sites with safety in mind, including proper cordoning, clearance, traffic safety, and the like.
• Prepare and maintain equipment for use; clean and store equipment; shuttle and deliver equipment as directed.
• Perform research and data collection.
• Perform related duties as required.

San Mateo County Health's Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) Division has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Clinical Services Manager I -Nursing (CSM I) in Behavioral Health and Recovery Services. This position has a leadership component and will be part of the Management leadership team, and report to the Medical Director. This CSM I Nursing Manager will provide clinical supervision, consultation and training to the Community Mental Health nurses who provide services to adult outpatient and field-based teams, throughout the County of San Mateo, BHRS.

The Clinical Services Manager I-Nursing manager will provide clinical supervision for the Community Mental Health nurses, participate in the overall management of division and inter-division nurse issues, train and provide orientation to a dedicated and experienced nursing team, develop clear and consistent policies and procedures for nursing practice at BHRS, for necessary standardization of practice, quality onboarding of new staff, continuous training, oversight of practice, and quality control. The CSM I Nursing will Co-Chair the Infection Control Committee (ICC).

The CSM I Nursing manager direct care role, will provide nursing support to outpatient teams, providing psychiatric assessments, clinical case management services, medication therapy and individual, group and family counseling. They will work with acute hospitals and community resources to coordinate clients' clinical care and recovery services.

This is a full-time 40-hour per week position. This position will have an office located at 2000 Alameda De Las Pulgas, but will travel throughout San Mateo County and out of the county.

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

• A Master's degree in Psychiatric Nursing.
• A minimum of one-year experience in an outpatient community mental health setting.
• Skill in establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with consumers, families, and contract providers.
• Skills and knowledge of principles and practices of supervision which includes development of medical/nursing policies, procedures and protocols.
• Ability to organize, coordinate and evaluate nursing services to ensure quality client care and conform to all prescribed standards.
• Ability to analyze nursing service delivery problems and develop recommendations and consult with executive management to resolve concerns.
• Experience training nursing staff and experience providing clinical supervision
• Knowledge of current psychiatric nursing practice including psychopharmacology and the medical issues associated with serious mental illness.
• Knowledge of the behavioral health needs of adults with serious mental illness and co-occurring disorders.
• Knowledge of the principles of psychiatric rehabilitation and recovery.
• Experience in providing individual and group skill-based psychoeducation.
• Experience in the geriatric population and experience in collaborating with older adult services providers in the community.

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Co-lead the BHRS Infection Control Committee.
• Manage and provide practical support for the Medication Rooms located in clinical areas.
• Support laboratory resources for the clinical areas through contract management, staff scheduling and coordination of resources.
• Provide supervision to nursing staff.
• In collaboration with Medical Director and other BHRS Leadership will monitor adherence to medical/nursing policies, procedures and protocols and develop nursing policies, procedures and protocols as needed.
• Respond to client grievances, critical incident reports, and personnel matters.
• Set standards for high quality nursing practice at BHRS and lead continuous improvement efforts.
• Recruit, hire, provide orientation, training and supervision to Community Mental Health Nurses providing services in outpatient/field-based settings.
• Work in collaboration with the administrative supervisors of the clinical teams in which the nurses are embedded to ensure appropriate coverage and client care.
• Provide direct clinical care to clients with Serious Mental Illness when needed for coverage of clinical areas including administration of psychiatric injectable medications at outpatient clinics, client’s homes or other community settings in or outside of the county.
• In collaboration with Psychiatry provide and support monitoring of anti-psychotic medications including clozapine) monitoring lab values, addressing critical results as needed, lead group medication appointments, and leading BHRS Performance Improvement Plans to ensure quality of care and health equity meeting measurement-based goals.
• Conduct psychiatric nursing admission assessments, develop care of plans with clients, and provide psychoeducation to clients with Serious Mental Illness and their families
• Participate/lead case conferences, complex case conferences and provide care coordination and collaboration with all members of the client’s treatment team, including partners in primary care, specialty care, private providers, Health Plan of San Mateo and Community based organizations (CBOs).
• Provide case management, linkage and referrals to programs and services to meet the client’s housing, financial and other psychosocial needs.
• Coordinate and participate in training, staff development, and professional growth activities.
• Observe, record, and report clinically significant changes in the client's condition.
• May travel to clients’ homes, board and care facilities and other community locations in and out of San Mateo County to provide clinical care as needed for coverage.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Licensure/Certification:
Possession of a valid California license as a Registered Nurse (R.N.).

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is;

• Three years of professional nursing experience in an accredited hospital or clinic, of which at least one year included responsible supervisory experience, unless otherwise specified below in the additional qualifications.

• Third-party reimbursement systems, revenue streams, and other principles relevant to the financial management of operating rooms, if assigned to perioperative nursing.

Skill/Ability to:

• Organize, direct, coordinate and evaluate nursing services that ensure quality patient care and conform to all prescribed standards.
• Work cooperatively with other County departments and public and private organizations, including private medical providers.
• Analyze service delivery problems accurately, develop recommendations and take appropriate action to resolve them.
• Develop, evaluate and maintain accurate records; prepare complex and detailed written reports, procedures and contracts.

The City of San Mateo Public Works Department is seeking a Traffic and Lighting Technician

 

The Department

The Public Works Department is comprised of the Engineering and Facilities Services Division (EFSD) and the Environmental Services Division (ESD). Each division is led by a Deputy Director reporting to the Director of Public Works. The department is responsible for the City’s major capital projects and infrastructure including streets, street lights, traffic signals, sewer and storm conveyance systems, wastewater treatment plant, pump stations, a major lagoon, and dams and levees. The Position

The Traffic and Lighting Technician performs skilled electrical and mechanical work in the maintenance and repair of traffic control signage, traffic signal equipment, and street lights; and guides the work of and trains other maintenance personnel, and performs related work as required.  Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Guide and participate in the work of other maintenance personnel.  Ability to set-up work zone safety and prepare traffic control work plans.
• Inspect, install, remove, and repair signal controls and auxiliary equipment such as light standards, control boxes, light fixtures, lamps, and circuitry; diagnose malfunctions; adjust and replace electronic and mechanical components.
• Inspect, install, remove and repair street lights and auxiliary equipment.
• Repair, replace or modify electric and electronic components, controllers, relays, switches, fuses, timers and other parts; design and construct special test equipment for shop testing of electronic components.
• Investigate complaints and reports of signal and traffic light malfunctions; adjust, repair or remove defective equipment; make field repairs of damaged equipment.
• Identify, locate and indicate with appropriate identification markers underground utilities (USA); respond to USA work orders within regulatory requirements; and document services accordingly.
• Be available for standby assignments in accordance with Department policies and procedures.
• Assist in the design of electrical circuits and systems for street lighting and traffic signals.
• Inspect the work of contractors during the course of construction and upon completion.
• Monitor traffic control computer and make adjustments as necessary.

The Traffic and Lighting Technician receives general direction from the Field Maintenance Manager and direct supervision from a Public Works Supervisor or higher level department staff and may exercise technical or functional direction over and provide work review to a Traffic Safety Worker or Maintenance Worker I/II.

Sufficient strength and stamina to lift and transport parts weighing up to 80 pounds. Manual dexterity for detailed mechanical work and computer use. 

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed indoors and outdoors with exposure to hot and cold environments. Noise level ranges from moderate to high. Potential exposure to hazardous materials and emergency conditions. Must be available to work evening and weekend shifts.

The Program Manager leads and participates in activities related to organizing program activities associated with the development and implementation of energy efficiency, conservation, renewable energy, and demand-side resource management programs for Pioneer customers. Duties include:

Qualified candidates will have an ability identify, design, and administer programs that result in energy/cost savings for customers and perform complex calculations related to energy efficiency and perform energy audits.

The City of Santa Clara is looking to fill multiple As-Needed- Temporary Employee positions to support the Annual Cleanup Campaign. Successful incumbents will be assigned to work as ground crews shoving, sweeping, and lifting up to 50lbs of debris left by Santa Clara residents.

 

The Position:

As our Alert & Warning Coordinator, you will own this mission. You'll architect the systems, craft the protocols, and build the partnerships that ensure every resident – from Half Moon Bay to Redwood City, from tech executives to farmworkers – gets the information they need to prepare, survive, and recover.

 

WHAT YOU WILL ACTUALLY DO

Build & Innovate:

• Lead the implementation of the Five Elements Framework—an evidence-based framework developed with leading researchers – in all our alerts and warning initiatives.
• Design multilingual alert systems that reach every community, including those often left behind.
• Integrate cutting-edge technologies: IPAWS, Genasys Protect, AI-powered monitoring, and tools that don't exist yet.
• Develop dashboards and systems that give our partners real-time situational awareness.

 

Coordinate & Connect:

• Serve as the nexus point between local, state, and federal emergency communication systems.
• Coordinate with 20 cities, 18 unincorporated areas, fire districts, law enforcement, healthcare systems, and community organizations.
• Build relationships with trusted community messengers who can amplify our reach.
• Manage vendor relationships and contracts for emergency notification platforms.

 

Respond & Adapt:

• Maintain 24-hour readiness and participate in on-call rotation.
• Staff the Emergency Operations Center during activations—from Blue Sky preparedness to Dark Sky crisis.
• Lead after-action reviews that turn every incident into institutional learning.
• Troubleshoot systems under pressure when everything depends on them working.

 

WHO YOU ARE

The Foundation:

• Bachelor's degree in emergency management, public administration, communications, or related field (Master's preferred but not required).
• 5+ years in program planning, emergency management, or crisis communications.
• FEMA ICS courses (100, 200, 700, 800) and IPAWS certification (IS-247, IS-251)—or willingness to complete.

 

The Technical Credentials:

• Deep knowledge of IPAWS protocols and alert & warning best practices.
• Fluency with emergency notification platforms, GIS, and communication technologies.
• Coding ability (Python, Java, or C++) to build tools, automate workflows, and solve problems.
• Understanding of radio communications systems and redundant infrastructure.
