Under direct or general supervision, services and performs major and minor repairs to City automobiles, trucks, tractors, and other power driven equipment; performs related work as required.

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Inspects automobiles, trucks, and related equipment to locate and determine the extent of necessary overhaul or repair.

• Performs general overhaul and repair work on gasoline, diesel and propane powered, as well as electrical engines such as automobiles, trucks, tractors, and other automotive and mechanical equipment.
• Inspects, adjusts, and replaces necessary units and related parts including valves, hoses, belts and alternators.
• Repairs cooling, fuel, electrical, and exhaust systems; tunes engines using standard testing equipment.
• Installs highly technical electronic equipment, including radios, computers, scanners, audio and video equipment, and emergency lights in Police and Fire emergency vehicles.
• Performs preventive maintenance work on vehicles including lubrication and oil changes.
• May work with Parts Specialist to locate and obtain the appropriate tools, parts, and equipment needed to repair City vehicles in a timely manner.
• Maintains records on maintenance and repair work performed; may drive equipment as necessary.
• Performs repair work on other City equipment and systems as necessary.
• Cleans and maintains the garage area and equipment.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

THE POSITION

The Human Resources Department is accepting applications for the Regular and Full-time position of Street Sweeper Operator in the Public Works Department.  The normal work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 –5 pm; a flex schedule may be available. The normal schedule for nighttime operator is 2 am – 11 am. The current vacancy is for a nighttime operator.

DEFINITION

To operate a heavy motor broom  and vacuum street sweeper on an assigned route; and to maintain clean City streets, parking lots, gutters, islands, and alleyways.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from the Street Maintenance Supervisor; and receives technical and functional supervision from a Senior Street Maintenance Worker.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Operate heavy vacuum, broom type motor-driven street sweepers; clean streets, parking lots, gutters, islands, and alleyways on assigned routes; prevent damage to sweeper, street structures, automobiles or pedestrians.
• Inspect equipment during operation and make minor operating adjustments; change or assist in changing and rebuilding pickup and gutter brooms, main brooms and center brooms.
• Report deceased animals found on route.
• Answer questions and concerns and provide information to the public as necessary.
• Maintain vehicle and equipment operations by daily checking of fuel, oil, grease, radiator, water tank, air cleaner and tires; check sweeper for even wear of brooms.
• Clean and wash equipment at end of each shift.
• Maintain a variety of logs and reports including miles swept per day.
• May operate other equipment such as hoist truck, dump truck, front loader, boom truck, flail or rotary type mower, patch truck and other equipment while assisting street repair and maintenance operations.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the pubic using principles of good customer service.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

• Operation of various types of heavy trucks, street-cleaning, water truck and other automotive equipment.
• Hazards and applicable safety rules and precautions in heavy-equipment operations.
• Traffic laws, ordinances and rules; basic rules and operations of a two-way radio.

Ability to:

• Operate equipment skillfully, safely and in accordance with traffic laws and regulations.
• On a continuous basis, know and understand assignment.
• On a continuous basis, get in/out of vehicle all day; sit in assigned vehicle or equipment for prolonged periods of time; bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist and reach when operating equipment controls or installing parts; perform simple power grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation; and lift or carry weight of 50 pounds or less.
• Learn City geography; detect needed repairs and make necessary adjustments.
• Work independently in the absence of supervision.
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Experience and Training

Experience

• One year of responsible experience in operating heavy equipment or one year of responsible experience similar to a Street Maintenance Worker II for the City of Roseville.

Training

• Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

License or Certificate

• Possession of a valid California Class B driver's license with a tanker endorsement by date of appointment.

SELECTION PROCESS

All candidates meeting the minimum qualifications will have their application scored in a Formula Rate Examination. The applicant’s experience and education will be evaluated using a pre-determined formula. Scores from this evaluation will determine applicant ranking and placement on the Employment List. The City of Dixon is accepting applications for Maintenance Worker I.  A total of three (3) full-time (3.0 FTE), permanent positions in the City's Parks Division of the Public Works Department.  This recruitment process will also be used to create an eligibility list for future needs in either Parks, Streets, or Building. 

Maintenance Worker I – This is the entry level class in the Maintenance Worker series. Positions in this class perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks related to the maintenance and repair of the City’s parks, buildings, streets, storm drain ponds and related facilities with typically little or no directly related work experience.  The Maintenance Worker I class is distinguished from the II level by the performance of less than the full range of duties assigned to the II level. WHEN ASSIGNED TO PARKS

Performs semi-skilled and skilled repair, maintenance and landscaping tasks involving City parks including irrigation system installation and maintenance; performs playground equipment inspection, maintenance and installation; performs graffiti removal; performs swimming pool maintenance; performs pesticide, herbicide and fungicide spraying; cleans and maintains park facilities, buildings and associated facilities.  Positions operate equipment including, but not limited to, mowers, spray rigs, electric, air and hydraulic powered hand tools, hedge-shears, blowers, weed eaters, and chain saws.

WHEN ASSIGNED TO BUILDINGS

Performs semi-skilled and skilled repair and maintenance tasks of City buildings including the cleaning of City buildings; installs, repairs, and maintains plumbing fixtures and equipment; inspects and repairs doors, locks, windows, floors, and gates; inspects various maintenance projects; reports potential safety problems related to City building and facilities, cleans up spills and unsafe conditions as identified; ensures facilities are properly locked and secured; performs minor electrical repair such as replacing ballasts and installing outlets. Positions operate equipment including, but not limited to, power saws, drills, doweling jigs, routers, drill presses, spray painting equipment, sanders, grinders, sand blasters, compressors, vacuum pumps, vacuum cleaner and floor buffer.

WHEN ASSIGNED TO STREETS AND STORM DRAIN PONDS

Performs semi-skilled and skilled repair and maintenance tasks involving traffic painting, traffic sign installation and maintenance and the installation of reflectors; performs minor street asphalting, patching and sealing; performs cement work on sidewalks, curbs and gutters; performs weed spraying, tree and bush trimming; performs graffiti removal;. Positions operate backhoe for preparing grades and trenching and operate other equipment including, but not limited to, paint sprayer and striper, tractor, scraper, rototiler, chain saw, weed eater, mower, air compressor, paving machine, sand blaster, and emulsion sprayer.

Exam Process: A limited number of candidates whose applications indicate that they, among those competing, are better qualified in terms of related education, training and experience will be invited to participate in a written exam (pass/fail) tentatively scheduled for Thursday, October 14, 2021, and an interview process (weighted 100%) tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, October 27, 2021.  The most qualified candidates from this process will be placed on an employment eligibility list and then interviewed by the department. Note: the examination process may be changed as deemed necessary.

The Hydro Electrical Technician tests, troubleshoots, installs, repairs and maintains electrical control systems, protection systems, and equipment in hydroelectric power generating stations and facilities, and operates, controls and maintains hydroelectric turbine generator units and auxiliary equipment.  This position reports to the Hydroelectric Technical Supervisor. 

Essential Duties: (other duties may be assigned)

• Test, troubleshoot and diagnose malfunctions or failure of electrical or mechanical operational equipment such as generators, transformers and turbines using precision test equipment.
• Disassemble, repair, or replace defective parts and calibrate to within specified standards.
• Test, repair, calibrate, and install protective relays, digital controls, governors, and excitation systems.
• Test and repair equipment circuitry and interpret schematic and wiring diagrams.
• Test, troubleshoot, repair and replace printed circuit boards.
• Clean and repair windings and bearings of generators and motors.
• Perform acceptance tests, and preventative and corrective maintenance to electrical equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, voltage regulators, generators, motors, inverters, programmable logic controllers, SCADA systems, and battery systems to correct malfunctions.
• Perform condition assessment of electrical equipment such as vibration, theomography, partial discharge, oil and gas analysis.
• Inspect and patrol overhead electrical transmission and distribution circuits for NERC compliance.
• Maintain / update electrical drawings, equipment files, sketches, reports and records to adequately document changes or alternations made to electrical systems.
• Complete and document NERC PRC-005 tests and calibrations.
• Operate, control and monitor hydroelectric generating units and auxiliary equipment.
• Inform system dispatch and supervisors of the status of operating equipment.
• Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management System to plan work assignments and document test results and repairs.
• Perform housekeeping duties to keep work areas clean and safe.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Completion of a recognized Electrical Technician apprenticeship (preferred).
• At least two (2) years of journey level Electrical Technician experience, preferably in hydroelectric power generation.
• Unrestricted CA Drivers License and clean driving record.
• Ability to complete physically demanding work in rough natural terrain, and noisy environments with the presence of safety hazards that must be properly managed to ensure safe operations.
• Willingness to relocate permanent residence to within 50 miles of Murphys, CA.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, operate hydraulic aerial devices, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions.
