DEFINITION

Under the general direction of a Bureau Deputy Fire Chief to participate as a staff member managing a wide range of fire department activities that may include supervising shift assignments; administrative assignments including planning, organizing and directing programs toward accomplishing goals and objectives of the department; to oversee and direct daily operations of the department; and other duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• Responds and assumes command at emergencies and coordinates on-scene activities.

• Plans, reviews, and supervises Division assigned activities involving fire operations, training, special operations, technical services, administration, emergency medical services, emergency planning & disaster preparedness and other assignments as designated.

• Prepares a variety of written reports that are needed weekly, monthly or annually. Maintains department records, recommends capital projects and prepares annual budgets as assigned.
• Reviews monthly financial statements.
• Works with other City departments and government agencies in matters of concern to the fire department.
• May serve as acting Deputy Fire Chief as designated.
• Handles a variety of personnel issues and assures consistent application of department policies and practices.

The City is planning for the replacement and expansion of two of its existing fire stations, modernizing and relocating the facilities to better serve the public.

In support of the San Mateo County automatic aid agreement, all entry level candidates will attend a regional, county-wide, fire academy where they will be introduced to all agencies in the county and rotate through a variety of training sites.  The roughly 12-week academy also includes specialized training depending on candidate certifications.

POLICE OFFICER - Academy Graduate - $8,419 to $11,416 per month (up to $13,128 with incentives)

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a highly qualified candidate to serve as the Sheriff’s Office Communications Management Analyst, supporting social media content, public information and internal communications.

Reporting directly to the Sheriff’s Director of Communications, this position will oversee development of the Sheriff’s Office Annual Report, assist with major updates to the Sheriff’s Office website, and serve as a lead content developer for the Sheriff’s Office social media accounts.

The Sheriff’s Office Communications Management Analyst will research social media best practices and trends and provide recommendations and ideas to the Sheriff’s Director of Communications and the Sheriff’s Office Communications Team.

This position will also serve as a brand champion, helping define the Sheriff’s Office brand for years to come.

Open & Promotional. Anyone may apply. Current County of San Mateo and County of San Mateo Superior Court of California employees with at least six months (1040 hours) of continuous service in a classified regular, probationary, or extra-help/limited term position prior to the final filing date will receive five points added to their final passing score on this examination.

The examination process will consist of an application screening (weight: pass/fail) based on the candidates' application and responses to the supplemental questions. Candidates who pass the application screening will be invited to a panel interview (weight: 100%), which may include the evaluation of a written or performance exercise given immediately preceding the interview. Depending on the number of applicants, an application appraisal of education and experience may be used in place of other examinations or further evaluation of work experience may be conducted to group applicants by level of qualification. All applicants who meet the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. All examinations will be given in San Mateo County, California and applicants must participate at their own expense.

The Central County Fire Department is seeking a dynamic, community-focused Emergency Management Program Manager to plan, organize, coordinate, implement, and maintain a comprehensive emergency management and disaster mitigation program for the City of Burlingame and the Town of Hillsborough (“agencies”); develop, coordinate and implement training and exercises for agency employees; develop and maintain community-based programs for mitigating community risk; and provide expert professional assistance to the agencies’ executive management staff.

What You Will Do:

• Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives related to the Department’s Emergency Management Program; establish schedules and methods for program development, implementation, and monitoring; implement policies and procedures.
• Develop and implement Emergency Management Program activities including the joint Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), Emergency Operations Center (EOC), and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).
• Evaluate emergency management program activities; recommend improvements and modifications; prepare various program reports.
• Prepare and conduct public outreach and education related to emergency management and preparedness including CCFD Emergency Management website pages, the preparation of social media posts and campaigns, newsletters, and training announcements; provide educational presentations to the community.
• Develop and maintain plans including but not limited to Emergency Operations Plans and Annexes, Local Hazard Mitigation Plans and Annexes, Continuity of Operations Plans, Continuity of Government Plans, and Crisis Communications Plans.
• Assist with the coordination of emergency preparedness classes offered to the public, including CERT, CPR and First Aid.
• Coordinate EOC operations including the creation of Emergency Operation Center (EOC) procedure manuals and checklists, training and maintenance of response platforms, ensuring that the EOC is properly equipped, and serving as liaison with the San Mateo County Department of Emergency Management in the event of an EOC activation.
• Provide CSTI/Cal OES emergency management classes for agency staff.
• Provide resources and other information as requested for EOC staff and support and provide necessary National Incident Management System (NIMS) training for agency employees.
• Represent the Department with dignity, integrity, and the spirit of cooperation in all relations with elected officials, staff, and the public.

 

Knowledge and Abilities

You possess knowledge of theories, principles and practices of emergency program planning, development, management techniques and training; National Incident Management Systems; function and operation of a municipal government and an Emergency Operations Center; community emergency and disaster support and assistance resources; development of public education programs utilizing 5-step planning process, development of community risk reduction programs utilizing methods of evaluation; customer service principles and problem resolution techniques; business letter writing and report preparation.

You possess the ability to organize, implement and direct Emergency Management Program activities; effectively manage all aspects of the Emergency Management Program including resources, staff and budget; identify resources and needs and develop means to obtain and meet them; acquire a thorough knowledge of local geography and resources as they relate to the Integrated Preparedness Plan (IPP), National Response Framework (NRF), and civil defense and emergency management planning and operations; develop, coordinate and train others on emergency operations plans and procedures; speak professionally advocating principles of community risk reduction; coordinate EOC activities, before, during and after activations; communicate effectively, tactfully and positively in both oral and written form; contribute effectively to the accomplishment of Department goals, objectives and activities.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Under general supervision, a Police Officer is responsible to perform law enforcement and crime prevention work; to control traffic flow and enforce State and local traffic regulations; to perform investigative work; to participate in and provide support and assistance to special department crime prevention and enforcement programs. This is the entry level classification in the professional police series requiring sworn peace officer status.

Examples of Essential Duties (include but are not limited to):

•  Patrol the City in radio-equipped car or on foot.
