After School Program Technician I's work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist II. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19-29 hours per week.

The Position: Under general supervision, this position involves organizing, leading, and coordinating a variety of indoor and outdoor recreational and educational activities for an Afterschool Program. This role is classified as Temporary Part-Time to support both seasonal and year-round recreational programs.

On April 29, 2025, Suisun City Council approved a new contract between the Suisun City RPM Department and the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD). This agreement expands after school programming to include to grades TK-5 at Dan O. Root Elementary and Crescent Elementary Schools, making the Suisun City RPM Department the sole provider of after school services at both locations. This is a significant milestone for the RPM department and a reflection of the quality and dedication of our team.  We are excited to continue providing high-quality programs for our community's youth.

The Department: The Recreation, Parks and Marina Department is responsible for the operations and programs of the Suisun City Marina, the Senior Center and the Joseph A. Nelson Center, including preschool, after-school programs at various sites, recreation classes and sports leagues, community events and special event rentals.

The Position: Facility and Sports Field Attendants work behind the scenes making all Recreation and Community Services excel!  This job entails setting up for events and rentals, cleaning the facility and performing light maintenance duties.  We’re looking for highly motivated people with a customer service orientation who genuinely enjoy helping others and who are flexible problem-solvers.

DEFINITION: Under general supervision, instructs classes in swimming, enforces all rules and regulations pertaining to the safety and well-being of visitors and patrons. Perform related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

The following duties are essential to the success of this position:

• Lead all levels of swimming to all age groups.
• Provide corrective feedback and proper stroke technique.
• Maintain structure and discipline within a group setting, while encouraging and promoting student participation in a positive manner.
• Maintain certain class records and reports as required.
• Deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other city employees, other agencies, and the general public.
• Respond professionally to emergencies, provide care as indicated under the scope of training.
• Actively attend and participate in required staff training and in-service drills.
• Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
• The ability to speak English clearly and understandably.
• Perform related duties as required.

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Must possess current ARC Water Safety Instruction certification. WSI certification is preferred but no required. CPR certification within 6 months of hire. ABA training is a desired skill. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and react quickly to emergencies.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS: Candidates receiving a conditional job offer must pass a pre-placement fingerprint review. Candidates must be comfortable calling 911 in an emergency and providing care according to the level of training.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Active scanning and patron surveillance, practice preventive Lifeguarding.
• Enforce all rules and regulations.
• Recognize and respond professionally to emergencies, provide care as indicated under the scope of training, including activating EAP. 
• Assume assigned duties connected with care and maintenance of the facility.
• Maintain certain pool records and reports as required.
• Provide basic maintenance, equipment care and chemical pool testing.
• Deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other city employees, other agencies, and the general public.
• Actively attend and participate in required staff training and in-service drills.
• Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
• The ability to speak English clearly and understandably.

The Community

The Department

The City’s Volunteer Fire Department is older than the City itself, founded as a volunteer corps in 1861 to replace a U.S. Army fire brigade. The largest volunteer urban Fire Department in California has undergone change to become a combination department, composed of both paid and volunteer staff. In addition, the department provides Advance Life Support (ALS) services and responds to over 3,000 calls for service annually. Staffing includes a Fire Chief, one Deputy Chief, one Fire Marshal, six Fire Captains, six Fire Engineers, an Administrative Assistant and 10 Reserve Volunteer Firefighters. Dispatch is staffed through the Public Safety Dispatch Center housed at the Police Department. Ambulance services are handled through a countywide contract. The Suisun City Department responds to fire, emergency and medical calls, as well as attaching units to wildland strike teams, when possible.

The Position

The ideal candidate will be a team-oriented problem-solver with a focus on public service. Recruits enter a training program to develop skills necessary to demonstrate abilities to respond to emergency fire and medical alarms, to protect life and property, to participate in fire suppression training and emergency medical training, to assist with station, apparatus and equipment maintenance, and to do related work as required. Volunteers are required to participate in a minimum of two 24 hour shifts or four 12 hour day shifts each month and complete assigned training.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael is recruiting for the position of Police Cadet (3 positions available).  This is an excellent job opportunity for students interested in law enforcement.  Under direct supervision, this fixed-term/limited term, civilian position provides general and specific information and assistance to the public.  The position also provides logistical assistance to all police department functions.  The primary assignments for the Cadet position are crime prevention, patrol support, and records/front office support. 

This position performs the following essential job duties:

• Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment
• Photocopies documents, files reports and manages additional work requests
• Uses personal computers and software applications for data entry and records maintenance
• Ensures proper calibration and maintenance of technical equipment and instruments
• Cleans and maintains work areas and machinery
• Assists with vehicle fleet cleaning and maintenance
• Performs related duties as required

To be eligible for this position you must have knowledge of:

• Basic office practices and procedures
• City and Department policies and procedures
• Information technology, personal computers and related software applications

• Must be able to meet City of San Rafael Police Department requirements for security clearance. 
• Must accept “limited term” appointment requirement as a condition of employment. 
• Must possess a valid California drivers’ license and have a safe driving record. 
• Preference given to college students preparing for a career in law enforcement.
