What You'll Do

• Support the Police Department by ensuring that critical systems and hardware are working smoothly. Exercise problem solving as needed to ensure minimal impact to operations.  
• Assist in the design, deployment, and maintenance of telecommunication systems, both through routine maintenance and responding to issues as needed.  
• Install network infrastructure, including wireless equipment, hubs, switches, cabling, servers, and peripherals.

The Essentials:

The educational/experience requirements can be satisfied in one of the following ways: 

- Equivalent to an associate’s degree or have completed 60 semester or 90 quarter units at an accredited college or university in business information systems in computer science or related field, plus five years experience in management information systems. Some assignments may require specialized systems experience such as HTML, CSS, Javascript and XML, PHP, and structured query language (SQL).

- A technology certificate from an accredited college or trade school in information technology, computer applications, web technologies, computer information systems, application development database design, programming, technology project management, or related field and five years of experience in private-sector or public-sector positions in information technology, including systems analysis work and development, system integration, or project management.
 

- Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a degree in computer science or a related field, and two years of progressively responsible experience comparable to that of an Information Technology Analyst I in the City of Mountain View. Some assignments may require specialized systems experience such as HTML, CSS, Javascript and XML, PHP, and structured query language (SQL).

Highly Desirable:  

• Possession of Advanced Microsoft, VMWare Certified Professional (VSP), CCNP and/or LINUX certifications. 
• Experience in radio communication systems
• Experience in a Public Safety environment supporting applications like CAD/RMS/Mobile data computer systems.

Role Overview

We’re seeking a candidate with experience in the areas of climate resilience and greenhouse gas emissions reduction; water quality and stormwater management; community and business empowerment; and strong program and staff management skills.

 

Under the direction of the Director and Assistant Director, the Sustainability Program Manager leads the six-member Climate Resilience team focused on reducing greenhouse gases in county operations, improving watershed water quality, implementing community resilience initiatives, and incorporating resilience in policy and planning documents. 

 

Responsibilities include overseeing implementation of the Government Operations Climate Action Plan; Stormwater Municipal Regional Permit compliance; County employee commute alternatives program; Green Business Program; and adaptation and resilience planning to address impact such as extreme heat, drought, sea level rise, and wildfire smoke. The role also involves overseeing program budget, grant administration, vendor contracts, and monitoring policy and program developments.

 

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, administer, and coordinate the activities of professional and technical staff involved in Climate Resilience work;

The Sustainability Aide is an entry-level position that provides essential program, technical, customer service, and field support to the Sustainability Division’s solid waste, water conservation, energy, and electric vehicle (EV) charging programs.

This role is ideal for individuals interested in environmental programs who demonstrate strong communication skills, attention to detail, and an interest in data-driven problem-solving within a local government setting.

This is a part-time position, up to 29 hours per week, not to exceed 1,000 hours in a fiscal year. Work hours are flexible within City business hours; two to three days per week is preferred.

Primary Responsibilities

• Provide customer and permit counter service by responding to public, contractor, and developer inquiries related to solid waste, recycling, water conservation, energy, and EV charging programs.
• Process and review Construction and Demolition (C&D) permit applications and plans, including verification of recycling requirements, authorized haulers, and Green Halo documentation.
• Support sustainability-related development review, including solid waste space planning, trash and recycling enclosure requirements, and coordination with other City departments.
• Assist with data collection, entry, tracking, and basic analysis for waste, recycling, edible food recovery, water use, debris, energy, and EV infrastructure programs.
• Support compliance and implementation of State regulatory requirements, including SB 1383 edible food recovery and organic waste diversion programs.
• Assist with GIS-based sustainability mapping, including trash and recycling enclosure mapping for development projects and updates to sustainability-related maps in coordination with the GIS team.
• Provide program support for energy and infrastructure projects, such as streetlighting replacement projects in coordination with Southern California Edison (SCE).
• Assist with sustainability budgeting support, including tracking program expenditures, maintaining records, and supporting basic budget documentation.
• Support public outreach and education efforts, including staffing events, conducting surveys, and preparing materials and documentation.
• Maintain accurate records in City databases, prepare spreadsheets, draft basic reports and memos, and assist with routine administrative tasks as needed.

A Dispatcher I is a civilian employee of the Police Department who performs a variety of tasks in the Department’s Support Services Division. The Dispatcher I receives incoming calls for police assistance and response; acts as a primary Dispatcher when appropriate; performs a variety of general support duties related to police communications; completes a wide variety of general clerical duties.

Examples of Duties:

The Dispatcher I duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Answer emergency and non-emergency police related phone calls, help prioritize requests for service based upon available resources, receive radio requests and handle accordingly, type, process and file a wide variety of reports and materials including memos, letters, complaints, declarations, warrants, citations, crime and traffic reports.  Assists Department personnel and the public in person and by phone performing record checks, collecting fees and mailing requested reports to outside agencies in accordance with established regulations.   A Dispatcher I may be assigned to work various hours, shifts, holidays, weekends and overtime.

Typical Qualifications:

A combination of education and work experience including 2-3 years of general office work involving typing of varied materials, public contact, general filing and basic record keeping; type at least 40 wpm net.  Knowledge of business English, spelling; modern office practices and procedures; record keeping. Ability to learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routine; write English legibly; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; type and learn the operation of other standard office equipment; a willingness to work varying shifts; and to learn radio dispatching skills.

City of Sunnyvale Field Technicians work in the field when assigned to the Compliance Inspection group in the Regulatory Programs Division. Field Technicians work under the supervision of the Senior Environmental Compliance Inspector primarily in the field collecting samples from industries, restaurants and the sanitary sewer collection system in order to determine compliance with local and federal discharge limits. The Field Technicians in Compliance Inspection work closely with the Environmental Compliance Inspectors to regulate dischargers. Field technicians also perform sampling at designated drinking water locations.

Our officers continually strive to be the best and achieve high standards; they receive a 5% incentive for achieving their Intermediate POST certificate and 10% incentive for achieving their advanced certificate. Starting September 1, 2024, Menlo Park police officers with at least one year of local service are eligible for longevity pay based on their total years as a California peace officer. Credited time includes all years served in Menlo Park plus half of any years served at other California agencies.

The City has new desktop and laptop computers in place for employees. The City already has Crime Analysis and Traffic Analysis software systems in place. A new handheld citations system for traffic has recently been launched. The City also implemented a citywide GIS system, document imaging system, and Intranet, which are available to all staff members. Additionally, we have placed laptops in all patrol cars in order to facilitate timely report writing and response to calls for service.

The salary range listed above reflects the full compensation potential for this position. Initial placement in the salary range is typically within the first half of the range; however, in certain circumstances (i.e. an experienced lateral candidate) placement at or above the midpoint may be considered. The last 3% of the salary range requires five years of City of Gilroy service and strong work performance – see GMA MOU for specific requirements.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy Police Department is seeking a highly skilled, detail oriented, and forward-thinking Police Crime Analyst to join our team of dedicated public safety professionals. This critical position plays a key role in helping the department anticipate, understand and respond strategically to crime trends. Your work will directly support smarter policing, improve resource deployment, and ultimately enhance the safety, trust, and quality of life for everyone in our community. The Police Crime Analyst serves as an internal expert in crime pattern recognition, predicative analytics, and investigative support. 

This is a journey-level, exempt position in which the incumbent works independently, or as part of a team, on professional level work involving significant analytical ability. This position requires both breadth and depth of use of application of theories, concepts, and techniques used, and a thorough understanding of policies and procedures. Under the general direction of a Police Captain and Police Chief, the Crime Analyst will perform the work of reviewing, monitoring, developing and analyzing methods, with special emphasis on related statistical data and computerized systems. The position requires specialized expertise in statistical analysis, systems analysis, and methods analysis.
