What You'll Do

• Support the Police Department by ensuring that critical systems and hardware are working smoothly. Exercise problem solving as needed to ensure minimal impact to operations.  
• Assist in the design, deployment, and maintenance of telecommunication systems, both through routine maintenance and responding to issues as needed.  
• Install network infrastructure, including wireless equipment, hubs, switches, cabling, servers, and peripherals. 
• Administer and maintain virtualization technologies, network load balancing technologies, storage systems and server hardware. 
• Work towards a goal of high availability, reliable disaster recovery, and business continuity as they relate to system administration. 
• Utilize excellent customer service skills with staff, providing direct assistance with problems in a timely manner.  
• Share your knowledge by providing technical instruction, general training, advice, and support to staff regarding the use of equipment, procedures, and software.  
• Have an eye out for continuous improvement by researching, evaluation, and recommending enhancements to existing systems or the implementation of new ones.  

The Essentials:

The educational/experience requirements can be satisfied in one of the following ways: 

- Equivalent to an associate’s degree or have completed 60 semester or 90 quarter units at an accredited college or university in business information systems in computer science or related field, plus five years experience in management information systems. Some assignments may require specialized systems experience such as HTML, CSS, Javascript and XML, PHP, and structured query language (SQL).

- A technology certificate from an accredited college or trade school in information technology, computer applications, web technologies, computer information systems, application development database design, programming, technology project management, or related field and five years of experience in private-sector or public-sector positions in information technology, including systems analysis work and development, system integration, or project management.
 

- Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a degree in computer science or a related field, and two years of progressively responsible experience comparable to that of an Information Technology Analyst I in the City of Mountain View. Some assignments may require specialized systems experience such as HTML, CSS, Javascript and XML, PHP, and structured query language (SQL).

Highly Desirable:  

• Possession of Advanced Microsoft, VMWare Certified Professional (VSP), CCNP and/or LINUX certifications. 
• Experience in radio communication systems
• Experience in a Public Safety environment supporting applications like CAD/RMS/Mobile data computer systems.

That said, successful candidates can realistically expect a starting offer between $122,367 and $144,000, depending on qualifications. No matter where the starting offer falls, employees will have the opportunity to get annual merit increases for stellar performance.

General

The Manager, Government and Community Affairs reports to the Director, Government and Community Affairs and is responsible for strategic development and management of government and community relations with a primary focus on the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (SMCTA), with additional work on San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans) and the San Mateo County Express Lanes Joint Powers Authority (SMCEL-JPA). This position will focus on local agency, stakeholder, and community engagement and assist with regional, state, and federal efforts. 

Essential Functions & Duties

• Plan and execute robust, diverse, and inclusive broad-based communications and direct engagement with relevant communities; primary focus is capital construction projects for SMCTA, SamTrans, and SMCEL-JPA, secondary focus is engagement for strategic planning projects; work closely with technical staff and supervise consultant work.
• Lead GCA communications support for strategic planning and capital construction projects the SMCTA is providing technical assistance on.
• Build support for projects, manage agency relationships and lead engagement with residents and local stakeholders including elected officials, cities, business, and community groups.
• Monitor responses to projects and engage cross functional teams to ensure clear and timely communication on key policy, project, or planning goals and to respond to stakeholder and community requests and concerns.
• Provide strategic guidance to agency leadership and teams on areas ranging from community opposition to a specific project to Federal funding.
• Manage state and/or federal lobbyists, prepare the annual state and federal legislative program, and provide support for grant and other funding applications.
• Assist in overall departmental management including budgeting and department policy development.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Applications Programmer Analyst II in the Information Technology Department! In this role, you will act as a technical liaison between IT and various City departments, translating complex business requirements into effective technological solutions. You'll support critical City operations through the design, implementation, and support of enterprise applications, data systems, and spatial technologies that directly impact City staff and the Berkeley community. Projects may include developing reports and data queries, participating in system integrations, and contributing to technology initiatives that improve service delivery, operational efficiency, and transparency. 

Current vacant positions include a generalist role and a GIS-focused role. Both positions are embedded within the City’s Project Management Office (PMO) and function as technical resources on cross-departmental project teams.

The generalist position offers broad exposure to the City’s technology environment, including enterprise and business applications, business intelligence and reporting systems, data warehousing, integrations, and GIS-supported workflows. This position supports departments by:

• Analyzing business processes and translating requirements into technical solutions

This position supports City initiatives by:

• Administering, configuring, and supporting GIS platforms such as ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and related ESRI technologies
• Creating, maintaining, and publishing spatial data, map services, and web maps
• Performing spatial analysis to support City programs, policy decisions, and operational needs
• Collaborating with departments to gather GIS requirements and translate them into technical solutions

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this classification is: 
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major coursework in computer science, mathematics, business administration, or a closely related field and two (2) years of professional experience in systems design and analysis, systems integration, and/or programming of applications for computer systems. Experience in systems design and analysis, systems integration, and/or programming of applications for computer systems may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

A Dispatcher I is a civilian employee of the Police Department who performs a variety of tasks in the Department’s Support Services Division. The Dispatcher I receives incoming calls for police assistance and response; acts as a primary Dispatcher when appropriate; performs a variety of general support duties related to police communications; completes a wide variety of general clerical duties.

Examples of Duties:

The Dispatcher I duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Answer emergency and non-emergency police related phone calls, help prioritize requests for service based upon available resources, receive radio requests and handle accordingly, type, process and file a wide variety of reports and materials including memos, letters, complaints, declarations, warrants, citations, crime and traffic reports.  Assists Department personnel and the public in person and by phone performing record checks, collecting fees and mailing requested reports to outside agencies in accordance with established regulations.   A Dispatcher I may be assigned to work various hours, shifts, holidays, weekends and overtime.

Typical Qualifications:

A combination of education and work experience including 2-3 years of general office work involving typing of varied materials, public contact, general filing and basic record keeping; type at least 40 wpm net.  Knowledge of business English, spelling; modern office practices and procedures; record keeping. Ability to learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routine; write English legibly; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; type and learn the operation of other standard office equipment; a willingness to work varying shifts; and to learn radio dispatching skills.

Public Safety Media and Engagement Manager

The City of Sunnyvale’s Department of Public Safety is seeking a dedicated Media and Engagement Manager to support the Office of the Chief in meeting the growing demand for transparent, timely, and strategic public safety communications. This management-level position will serve as the department’s primary communications lead for non-critical incidents, overseeing media relations, crisis and emergency communications, social media and website content, internal communications including a regular staff newsletter, and community engagement initiatives.

The City realizes the diversity of the community and therefore upon approval, the City pays officers a bilingual stipend. Our officers continually strive to be the best and achieve high standards; they receive a 5% incentive for achieving their Intermediate POST certificate and 10% incentive for achieving their advanced certificate. Starting September 1, 2024, Menlo Park police officers with at least one year of local service are eligible for longevity pay based on their total years as a California peace officer. Credited time includes all years served in Menlo Park plus half of any years served at other California agencies.

The City has new desktop and laptop computers in place for employees. The City already has Crime Analysis and Traffic Analysis software systems in place. A new handheld citations system for traffic has recently been launched. The City also implemented a citywide GIS system, document imaging system, and Intranet, which are available to all staff members. Additionally, we have placed laptops in all patrol cars in order to facilitate timely report writing and response to calls for service.
