POSITION

Perform routine non-hazardous police office activities.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current vacancy, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

** These positions work alternate shifts which will cover a 24-hour operation.  Successful applicants may be required to work alternative hours, which may include swing shift, graveyard shift, including weekends and/or holidays. **

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate will possess an in-depth knowledge of Law Enforcement organizational structure. The Ideal Candidate will also possess good communication, customer conflict resolution skills, and writing skills, as well as be competent with computers and related software, e.g., report management, and MS Outlook, and Excel. Knowledge of principles, codes, regulations and laws governing records management of a police department.  Additionally, the Ideal Candidate will have a strong work ethic, ability to multitask, prioritize, knowledge of complex filing systems, and be available for shift work.

Duties may include but are not limited to the following: Process and maintain a variety of police records, files, forms, and manuals. Issues, receives, types, and processes various applications, permits, and other forms; processes warrants, permits, and citations; collects and processes fees and charges. Entries and modifications into a state and nationwide system. Processes police reports including receiving, reviewing, copying, distributing, filing, and making corrections as applicable. Logs subpoenas; collects, posts, and distributes department mail.  Answers a multi-line telephone system, providing information or routing calls to appropriate individuals. Greets the general public, giving information on the department and answering routine questions. Types, proofreads, and processes a variety of documents including general correspondence, memos, and legal documents. Operates standard office equipment including computer remote terminals. Creates and maintains files and databases. Provides fingerprint services for applicants and voluntary bookings. Performs related duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

File routine reports and correspondence; perform general clerical duties using typewriter and word processor.  Respond to citizen requests for information and assistance.  Complete minor reports as required. Retrieve and input data into computer terminal. Receive calls and take messages. Accumulate data and prepare monthly statistical reports.  Process requests for copies of reports from both citizens and other criminal justice agencies. Inventory supplies and order when necessary.  Process monies and fees via the cash register, prepare licenses and permits, prepare and issue bills, complete citation sign-offs.  Prepare correspondences to victims of crime.  Complete and prepare background and record checks.  Process voluntary bookings and court ordered registrations.  Perform fingerprinting and Live Scan digital printing.  Assist in the transportation of property and evidence. Assist in preparation for the auction of property. Purge files. Provide relief for full-time Community Services Officers.  Regular and consistent attendance.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience: One (1) year of general administrative office work experience OR six (6) months of administrative office work in a law enforcement agency. Prefer experience with substantial public interaction.

License or Certificate: Possession of a valid California driver’s license required upon hire.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, business administration, or a closely related field and five (5) years of professional information technology experience is required, including two (2) years at a supervisory level. Additional certificates in information technology systems are preferred. Possession of and ability to maintain a valid California driver’s license. This position is required to obtain security clearance to operate in a public safety environment with service to the City's police and fire departments.

About the Position: The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) seeks a Public Affairs Intern to assist with a variety of tasks, including researching and writing for Midpen print and digital publications, creating web and social media content, representing Midpen at community events, working with community partner organizations, managing photo databases, drafting media advisories and press releases and other duties as assigned. This internship will provide valuable training in public affairs strategies and activities. Basic Requirements: Internships are open to applications from current students or recent graduates (within the last 12 months). Successful candidates will have a background in public affairs, communications, public relations, marketing, policy and government, journalism, community relations, customer service or a similar field.  Working Conditions/Schedule: The Public Affairs Intern will work at Midpen’s Administrative Office in Los Altos, CA.  Midpen offers a hybrid work environment for this position, and will be divided between on-site work at the Administrative Office in Los Altos, at-home office work and some outdoor work. Candidates should expect to work from the office a minimum of 2 days each week. This position will be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed for in-person special events. The intern will be required to work the weekends of April 18 & 19, April 25 & 26, May 2 & 3 and June 6 & 7. This is a temporary position working 20 – 40 hours per week, which will extend up to a total of 950 hours over a 6-9 month period. This is a non-benefited position.

THE DEPARTMENT
With an annual Operating and Capital Budget of $464 million and 541 employees, DOT’s mission is to equitably serve our diverse community and enhance quality of life by planning and operating safe transportation systems, promoting sustainable transportation choices, and maintaining
resilient infrastructure.

In alignment with its mission and ambitious goals in the Envision San Jose 2040 General Plan, the Department of Transportation (DOT) is focused on transforming the City’s transportation system to support a modern and vibrant urban environment through initiatives and projects such as the
following:

San Jose Regional Rail Projects: A transformative $10 billion regional investment in major transit including High Speed Rail, BART, Caltrain electrification, and the expanded Diridon Transportation Center.

Vision Zero San Jose: A cutting-edge traffic safety initiative to eliminate deaths and severe injuries on our roadways through rigorous crash data analytics, detailed street safety audits, engineering solutions, education and enforcement.

Pavement Maintenance and Complete Streets: The inclusion of progressive “Complete Street Standards and Guidelines” in DOT’s $128 million annual pavement maintenance program to create a street system that is safe, connected, and convenient for all types of users, ages and abilities including pedestrians, bicyclists, transit riders, and motorists.

Position Duties

Under the direction of the Assistant Director of Transportation, the Information Technology (IT) Manager will plan, lead, manage, and execute the technology and innovation efforts of DOT.

This position is open until filled with a first review date scheduled for November 21, 2025.

The DOT Information Technology (IT) Manager will refine and manage the DOT information technology roadmap, which fuses departmental priorities and opportunities with technology and resource needs. The business plan includes coordination with the IT Department to assess centralized capabilities and opportunities for partnership and advancement of key strategies and systems. Some of the top priorities include:

Implementing innovative field technology improvements and integrated data systems – With the transportation and utility infrastructure spread across 178 square miles of the City, most of the Department’s work, particularly maintenance of the infrastructure, occurs in the field. With
the growth of advanced technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) the City has an opportunity to strategically deploy innovations that could save time and resources, as well as improve response times. The IT Manager will work with the IT Department, the City Manager’s Office, and other City Departments to lead the assessment of existing processes and systems to identify, develop, and implement automated workflows to improve efficiency and productivity.

Automating, updating, and supporting multiple IT Systems – DOT has a number of important IT needs and coordination efforts that are identified and prioritized in the DOT IT Business Plan. These projects include the maintenance and development of feature request applications in our Salesforce Work Order platform, updates to the Geographic Information System (GIS), and upgrades of various administrative and engineering databases.

Coordinating Civic Innovation – The DOT IT Manager will also play a lead role in planning and implementing DOT’s Civic Innovation Projects. The transportation industry is dramatically changing around us with the emergence of Automated Vehicles, highly advanced traffic signal management systems, and complex data reporting and analytics capabilities. In alignment with the San Jose’s technology vision and in coordination with the Mayor’s and City Manager’s Office, the DOT IT Manager will build upon current momentum to make San Jose one of the most innovative cities. The IT Manager supervises and/or coordinates staff in the Information Systems Analyst, Senior Geographic Systems Specialist, Systems Applications Programmer, Network Engineer, Innovation Program Manager, and Network Technician classifications.

Key General Responsibilities:

• Develops, coordinates, guides, and maintains IT system strategic and tactical plans in support of the department’s overall direction and within the framework of Citywide IT protocols and standards.
• Plans, implements, and manages the department’s information technology operations ensuring efficient utilization of resources.
• Collaborates and coordinates with IT and other departmental stakeholders to assess centralized capabilities, opportunities for partnership, and advancement of key strategies in a way that maximizes the interoperability of systems between DOT and other departments.
• Utilizes in-depth technical knowledge and business requirements to design and implement technology solutions.
• Analyzes complex business needs and recommends technical solutions.
• Ensures technology projects and systems are adequately resourced with the appropriate levels of technology staff and line staff.
• Serves as a liaison with other departmental divisions and operations to identify and address technology needs.
• Negotiates and administers contracts and agreements with vendors and agencies.
• Supervises staff by hiring, selecting, training, evaluating, and making work assignments. May also coordinate and supervise the work of teams comprised of individuals in a variety of organizations.
• Leads and manages a staff of 12, and assists with budget management, personnel, and training matters.

Minimum Qualifications

Education
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in computer science, information systems, business administration, or closely related field

Experience
Five (5) years of experience managing, maintaining, and implementing technology programs, computer system infrastructure and design, network operations, security design, application development and configurations, and system/server administration, including three (3) years of supervisory experience over a technical team.

Certifications/Licenses
One or more credentials in Salesforce is desired, preferably certification as a Salesforce Administrator and/or Developer.

Possession of a valid license authorizing operation of a motor vehicle in California. The selected candidate will be enrolled in the Employer Pull Notice (EPN) program; an authorization for release of driver record information form must be signed as a condition of employment.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate is a results-driven professional with previous experience as an IS/IT Manager. The successful candidate will be a highly effective communicator who is able to build solid working relationships with management, peers, and staff. Candidates should possess superior long-term planning and project implementation experience and a commitment to high quality, effective customer service. Experience in the rollout and maintenance of major new initiatives is expected, as well as the ability to translate complicated IT issues into understandable terms. The ideal candidate will have an appreciation for the complexities of DOT operations and will strategically assess the competing priorities of the Department’s IT projects, determine what is reasonable to implement, and clearly articulate the merits of keeping abreast of new technology improvements and efficiencies to Department leaders.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The approved salary range for this position goes up to $183,248. Employees in the Department Information Technology (IT) Manager classification will also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay.

The actual salary will depend on the qualifications and experience of the individual selected. The City provides an array of benefits.

• Retirement – Competitive retirement system with full reciprocity with CalPERS.

• Health Insurance – The City contributes 100% towards the premium for the lowest cost plan. There are several plan options.

• Dental Insurance – The City contributes 100% of the premium of the
  lowest priced plan for dental coverage.

• Personal Time – Vacation is accrued initially at the rate of three weeks per year with amounts increasing up to five weeks after 15 years of service. Executive Leave of 48 hours is granted annually with the ability to earn up to 40 extra hours annually based on performance. Sick Leave is accrued at the rate of 8 hours per month.

• Holidays – The City observes 15 paid holidays annually.

• Deferred Compensation – The City offers an optional 457 Plan.

• Flexible Spending Accounts – The City participates in Dependent Care Assistance and Medical Reimbursement Programs.

POSITION

To attend a Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T), a certified basic academy. After successful completion of the P.O.S.T. academy, guaranteed promotion to Police Officer where they will perform law enforcement and crime prevention work and do related work as required.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill current vacancies and establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

ABOUT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT

The Woodland Police Department is staffed with 72 sworn officers and 22 support employees. It, too, is expected to expand in size as the City grows. The Department is managed by a Chief of Police, a Deputy Chief, four Lieutenants, ten Sergeants, and a Police Records Supervisor. The Department has three Bureaus: Patrol, Investigations, and Community Relations. Police Officers are assigned to all Bureaus where they work in various capacities and teams.   Within the Bureaus are many specialty units including K-9, Motors, School Resource Officers, Gang Task Force, Narcotics Agents, Detectives, and a Homeless Outreach Street Team.  There are a number of collateral duties available to officers including SWAT, Crisis Negotiations Team, Field Training Officer, Honor Guard, Arrest & Control Instructors, Firearms Instructors, Gang Resistance Education and Training (G.R.E.A.T) instructors, Social Media Team, and Bicycle Team. ABOUT THE CITY

Woodland is a city of approximately 60,000 residents. Incorporated in 1871, Woodland is conveniently located on I-5 just 12 miles northwest of Sacramento and 9 miles north of U.C. Davis. Woodland’s primary business is agriculture and light industrial, including distribution centers for Target, True Value, and Walgreens. Woodland has a community college, 2 senior high schools, 2 junior high schools, and 12 elementary schools in the public school district, supplemented by five private schools, grades K through 12. The area offers various recreation possibilities: water skiing and boating on the Sacramento River, Lake Berryessa, and Lake Folsom; skiing in the Sierras, hunting and fishing; five golf courses; and many other youth and adult oriented recreations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

As a Police Officer Recruit, the Recruit will attend a Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T), a certified basic academy during regular academy hours, and any other scheduled departmental and academy exercise activities.  Successful completion of the academy is required to continue employment and be promoted to Police Officer.  General Supervision will be provided by supervisory Police Department personnel, both sworn and civilian, and P.O.S.T. Academy staff.  No direct supervision of staff is exercised. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Equivalent to graduation from an accredited U.S. high school; passing score on the General Education Development (GED) test; or possession of a two-year, four-year, or advanced degree from an accredited college or university.

License or Certificate:  Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Environment:  The candidate will train in a high-stress police-training academy; indoor classrooms and outdoor physical agility course; exposed to noise, smoke, and inclement

Physical:  Physical health, strength, stature, and agility to meet the physical demands of police work as determined by an agility test and a pre-employment physical exam.

Vision:  See in the normal visual range with or without correction.

Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.

Age:  Must be 21 years of age upon completion of the academy.

Citizenship:  A candidate must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law at the time of appointment. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants for the Police Officer Recruit position must pass the POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) with a minimum T-Score of 45 and must pass all components of the Physical Agility Test-Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB) with a minimum score of 320.

• If taken within the past 12 months, applicants may submit evidence of a P.O.S.T. Certified PELLETB test score with a score equal to or greater than a T-45 with the application to be considered for this recruitment.
• Woodland Police Department will accept previously received Physical Agility Test-Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB) scores if it is in an official format and less than 6 months old. 

Test Details:

1) Written Test - POST Entry-Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) - This test must be completed in less than 2.5 hours, and it must be passed with a minimum T-Score of 45.  The areas covered by the test include:

• Spelling - Select the correct spelling of a word from a list of options
• Vocabulary - Select the correct meaning of a word from a list of options
• Clarity - Select the sentence that is most clearly written from a pair of options
• Reading - Read a passage and answer questions about the passage's content
• CLOZE - Use contextual clues to complete a passage that contains missing words

2) Physical Agility Test - Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB) - This test consists of five individually timed and weighted events, and the minimum passing score is 320 (Important – POST Academies may require a higher standard). The events include:

• 99-yard obstacle course with sharp turns and up to 34-inch high obstacles
• 165-pound body drag for 32 feet
• 6-foot chain link fence climb
• 6-foot solid wall climb
• 500-yard run

Test Date:

Woodland Police Department will offer the WSTB tests on an ongoing basis. Candidates will be notified of test dates and times once they have applied.

Eligible List Placement: 

Applicants for this position must take and pass the Physical Agility - Work Sample Test Battery (pass/fail), and the POST Entry-level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) with a minimum T-score of 45 (weight: 100%).  Those applicants who pass both the PELLETB and Physical Agility test (WSTB) will be invited to participate in a panel interview.  Applicants who successfully pass the panel interview will be placed on an eligibility list and may be selected to participate in a final interview with the Chief of Police.

THE DEPARTMENT
The Burlingame Police Department is a municipal, full service, community oriented department.  We offer a variety of investigative, preventative, and community policing programs to both protect and serve a community that spans five square miles and is home to more than 28,000 residents.

The Burlingame Police Department is divided into two divisions: Operations and Administration.  The force currently consists of 40 police officers, made up of the Chief of Police, 1 Captain, 2 Lieutenants, 6 Sergeants, 6 Corporals, 2 Inspectors, and 22 Patrol Officers.

POSITION
Burlingame Police Officers are responsible for preventing crime, arresting law violators, directing traffic, etc.  In that capacity, officers may also serve in special assignments such as K-9, detective, SWAT, hostage teams, FTO, and motorcycle patrol.

Lateral Police Officer - To be considered for a lateral Police Officer appointment, candidates must have prior experience as a sworn law enforcement officer within the past twelve (12) months, including the completion of the field training program and probation period with a law enforcement agency.
