THE POSITION

The current opening is for a full-time position and is under the direction of the Police Records Supervisor. The Police Records Specialist will provide a wide variety of clerical, typing, and computer data entry tasks related to Police records; maintaining accurate Police statistics, records, and files; conducting business and transactions with the public, in person and by telephone; is available for occasional night and/or weekend duty as required, and performing other related work as required.

 

DEFINITION

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Police Records Specialist is responsible for all police statistical record keeping and data entry, typing, and clerical work related to all phases of the Police operation, including but not limited to preparing forms, ordering department supplies, and making appointments.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Works under the general supervision of employees in higher clerical, technical and/or supervisory classifications.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS -INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING

• Performs police statistical record keeping.
• Performs a variety of data entry, typing, and clerical work related to all phases of the Police operation.
• Enters, updates, and maintains data while ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of all information.
• Coordinates service of subpoenas.
• Compiles data for Public Records Act requests.
• Approves and prepares reports for the District Attorney.
• Conducts business and transactions with the public, in person and by telephone.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Under the general direction, the Parking Enforcement Officer performs a variety of law enforcement support duties, with the majority of responsibilities involving enforcement of parking regulations. Under supervision, the Community Service Officer (CSO) performs a wide range of field and office support duties in the patrol and support services divisions within the Marysville Police Department.

This is a specialized, full-time, non-sworn classification. The Community Service Officer has no powers of arrest.

Definition: 
To perform varied and routine non-sworn duties with emphasis on parking enforcement and vehicle abatement program.

 

Examples of Duties:

• Enforce sections of the Marysville Municipal Code, other enforcement codes; and assist other City Departments in various code enforcement

• Perform traffic control and non-violent crowd control

A Dispatcher I is a civilian employee of the Police Department who performs a variety of tasks in the Department’s Support Services Division. The Dispatcher I receives incoming calls for police assistance and response; acts as a primary Dispatcher when appropriate; performs a variety of general support duties related to police communications; completes a wide variety of general clerical duties.

Examples of Duties:

The Dispatcher I duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Answer emergency and non-emergency police related phone calls, help prioritize requests for service based upon available resources, receive radio requests and handle accordingly, type, process and file a wide variety of reports and materials including memos, letters, complaints, declarations, warrants, citations, crime and traffic reports.  Assists Department personnel and the public in person and by phone performing record checks, collecting fees and mailing requested reports to outside agencies in accordance with established regulations.   A Dispatcher I may be assigned to work various hours, shifts, holidays, weekends and overtime.

Typical Qualifications:

A combination of education and work experience including 2-3 years of general office work involving typing of varied materials, public contact, general filing and basic record keeping; type at least 40 wpm net.  Knowledge of business English, spelling; modern office practices and procedures; record keeping. Ability to learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routine; write English legibly; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; type and learn the operation of other standard office equipment; a willingness to work varying shifts; and to learn radio dispatching skills.

• Salary: $6,681 - $8,612 per month.

                                     POSITION DETAILS:

• Salary Range: $26.51/hour with excellent benefits

• Promotion Opportunity: Police Dispatcher at $29.96/hour with excellent benefits

• Growth Potential: Up to $79,539/year ($38.24/hour)

• Cost of Living Adjustment: 3% increase effective July 13, 2026

• Schedule: 10-hour shifts, 4 days per week, rotating every four months

• Requirements: Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays

 

                         MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:  Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Additional specialized training in communications or a related field is desirable.

Experience: Some emergency or non-emergency dispatch experience is desirable.

• Good moral character with no felony convictions
