The San Jose Police Department requires data and communications resources to be functioning twenty-four hours per day, seven days a week, 365 days per year.  The Police Department has the largest network in the City.  The Police WAN include 21 remote sites.  The Local Area Network (LAN) provides network connectivity to over 1,000 desktop computers, 440 Mobile Data computers, and over 80 data servers.  The department uses software applications to monitor networks, systems, and management of help desk requests.  The department's main network is currently using Microsoft Active Directory.

This position, working under the supervision of the Department Information Technology Manager in Systems Development Division will be responsible for the following functions:

·         Maintain vehicle Mobile Data Computers (MDCs) and Automated Information System (AIS) workstations

·         Respond to Help Desk requests, network troubleshooting (wired and wireless) up to the switch level.

·         Maintain and troubleshoot the department VoIP phone systems, and troubleshoot Windows operating systems (Windows 7 and Windows 10)

·         Install and manage desktop systems, manage virus protection, and the Police Department's network system.

Preferred: Microsoft Certified Professional Certification

City of Lafayette – Traffic Engineer

The City of Lafayette (pop. 24,000) is recruiting for the position of Traffic Engineer.  Lafayette prides itself on its vibrant downtown, beautiful tree-studded hillsides and great schools.  This position will be part of the team that ensures that Lafayette retains its semi-rural character and “small town” downtown feel.  The Traffic Engineer performs advance level technical analysis of traffic safety and parking issues in order to mitigate traffic and parking impacts associated with development projects and traffic congestion throughout the city.

Some current projects include:

• Providing technical direction to enhance the safety in the public right-of-way for all users including motorists, pedestrians, and bicyclists. 
• Maintaining and supporting transportation programs such as: Walkway & Bikeway Master Plans, Neighborhood Traffic Calming, School Area Traffic Safety.
• Processing Transportation Action Requests and managing resident expectations

The Traffic Engineer reports directly to the Engineering & Public Works Director and performs the following major duties:

• Staffs the Traffic & Circulation Commission, facilitates public meetings and will occasionally make presentations before the City Council. 
• Works with vendors and contractors to update traffic signal technology and performs and signs off on speed surveys.
• Researches and identifies grant funding sources, writes proposals and applications, assists in programming and administering grant awards.
• Responds to public requests for service by evaluating site conditions and prescribing appropriate solution options.
• Serves as interdepartmental liaison and staff advisor on all transportation and traffic-related subjects.
• Represents the City to regional transportation organizations such as the Contra Costa Transportation Authority (CCTA) and advocates Lafayette’s interests in regional issues

The Ideal Candidate

The City is seeking a high energy professional who is tactful, self-motivated, creative, and detail-oriented. Exceptional analytical and communication skills and the ability to write well and persuasively are required. An understanding of the regional political infrastructure and how it affects policy development and implementation is preferred.  The candidate should have a four-year degree with an emphasis on traffic engineering or civil engineering.  At least 3 years of professional engineering experience is required. 
Possession of a Certificate of Registration as a Traffic Engineer is highly desirable.  Registration as a Licensed Civil Engineer with the requirement that a Traffic Engineering License shall be obtained within one year of employment start date is also acceptable.

The Department of Public Works is seeking to fill an Information Systems Analyst position to function as a member of the Enterprise Asset Management Group in the Technology Services Section. The primary role of this position is to act as the technical lead supporting and managing a fully implemented activity-based asset management application with an Oracle backend database (FleetFocus by AssetWorks) and performing all duties necessary for maintaining, supporting, and optimizing systems supporting the Fleet Division.

This position must ensure business processes for users are documented and that systems meet customer expectations. This position is responsible for ongoing user training, report creation (using tools such as Crystal Reports), system administration, system support, maintenance, programming efforts, and must maintain excellent customer relations. This is a professional level position in the IT professional management series and may be expected to act in a supervisory role.

The ideal candidate must be able to work in a dynamic environment and effectively perform operational tasks in addition to implementing projects. The position will function with minimum supervision and must be a critical thinker and effective decision maker regarding database, application, policy, and procedure. Written and verbal communication skills are very important since this position will be the point of contact for internal customer technical support, client and division staff training, and Assetworks technical support. • Master, manage, and support all modules of AssetWorks FleetFocus fleet management software (FleetFocus) application used by the Department of Public Works Fleet Division. 

• Plan, coordinate, and implement all application upgrades. Test and resolve production support problems in a prompt and efficient manner, including providing ITD DBA with all Oracle database scripts and structure to implement.

• Liaise with AssetWorks on the development of system enhancements to overcome known problems or further fulfill user requirements.

• Lead all QA, testing, and documentation of new releases within the FleetFocus platform.

• Develop, test, deploy and maintain hosted and web applications to address the Fleet Division business needs.

• Coordinate and maintain database objects (tables, views, stored procedures and packages) to support FleetFocus functionality.

• Develop reports using Crystal Reports or reporting services within the FleetFocus platform or other technology supporting the Fleet Division.

• Communicate effectively orally and in writing to technical and non-technical audiences.

• Act as subject matter expert for FleetFocus application and remain up-to-date with FleetFocus and general fleet management technology development trends, keeping knowledge and skills current.

• Manage Verizon NetworkFleet and GeoTab portals to maintain a digital blueprint of every aspect of a vehicle's operation.

• Build and deploy data visualization tools using Tableau and Microsoft Power BI to help department management access and interpret data.
