Position:  The City of Orinda is looking for responsible, courteous individuals who enjoy working outdoors, can work independently of supervision and have experience dealing tactfully and effectively with members of the public.  The successful applicants will work in a part-time capacity with a schedule including afternoon and weekend hours.  Our City’s mission is to provide excellent service in a fiscally responsible manner and to promote a safe, healthy and vibrant community.

The Parking and Traffic Specialist enforces City parking regulations and assists with parking, traffic, and related issues and provides general information and assistance to the public.    This position is non-benefited and works a variable schedule based on need.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:

• Education: Equivalent to a high school diploma.  Supplemental specialized training in planning, zoning, inspection, or law enforcement is desirable; and
• Experience: One year of experience in public contact, customer service, or related experience; and

Special Requirements: Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:

Primary duties of the Parking & Traffic Specialist include (but are not limited to):

• Enforces parking regulations within the guidelines of California State Law and City requirements.  Safely maintains and operates specialized equipment including radios and hand held computers or devices.
• Efficiently patrols assigned routes throughout the City to identify and resolve parking violations and traffic hazards, and enforce applicable laws; issues parking citations utilizing an electronic ticket writer and updates records as necessary.  May write warnings and amendments to previously issued citations.
• Responds to citizen complaints and concerns regarding parking and traffic issues and abandoned vehicle laws; tag and arrange transportation of abandoned vehicles; refers issues to supervisor or law enforcement as necessary;
• Chalks tires of vehicles parking in timed spaces, records time, and returns at specified intervals to ticket vehicles remaining in spaces illegally;
• Explains California State laws, California Vehicle Code, and City ordinances to the general public regarding parking citations and parking in general;
• Provides guidance to residents on how to obtain Residential Parking Permits and assists residents on permit questions and issues;
• Reports missing or damaged traffic signals and signs; reports improperly operating traffic signals; submits work order requests for signage, curb painting, and repairs;
• May perform traffic control duties at accident scenes and special events, including directing traffic and diverting flow of traffic by erecting temporary barricades and posting temporary signs; and
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

The City of San Dimas Parks and Recreation Department offers a basketball league for youth ages 8-14 that emphasizes teaching fundamentals, sportsmanship, teamwork and fun. The program runs from December until March. Coaches must be available for practices two days per week scheduled between the hours of 2:45 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. and games Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (all times approximate).  Additional hours for trainings and meetings as assigned.

JOB SUMMARY

Under supervision, Recreation Leaders are responsible for coordinating and conducting a variety of youth recreation activities, special events, and adult sports programs. Recreation programs run from Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.  May also be required to work special events and programs on evenings and weekends.

Under direction this person instructs fitness classes at the San Dimas Recreation Center in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment.  Instructor will promote wellness and create appropriate and challenging workouts for participants at the appropriate and safe level.  They will instruct participants about exercise activities that improve strength, cardiovascular endurance and flexibility.  They demonstrate correct movements and technique, while offering tips on improving form to maintain or improve physical fitness.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Recreation Leader II position is responsible for providing high-level programs and services through the Parks and Recreation Department which provide concrete, positive experiences for youth and which promote qualities that are essential to raising successful young people. Recreation Leaders (II) are responsible for creating and implementing the curriculum for the Town’s programs which offer youth daily activities, including arts, crafts, games, field trips, and special events.  This position may also work additional seasonal events for the Parks and Recreation Department throughout the year.

POSITION SUMMARY
Under supervision of the Information Technology Manager, the Information Technology Technician position supports programs and activities related to the City’s technology and telecommunications operations and systems. This includes performing basic computer related duties such as analyzing, troubleshooting, and resolving technical operational problems for desktop computers, peripherals, and networks; providing informal training to users on system implementation and operations; performing other related duties as assigned by supervisor. The assignment is 27-30 hours per week for approximately 6 months and may be extended.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS   

• Respond to all information technology help desk requests and provide a full range of assistance and help to system and equipment users in the role of help desk expert.   
• Performs basic and advanced configuration, installation and maintenance of computers, peripherals, telephones and mobile devices.   
• Participates on project teams to ensure successful implementation of new systems or upgrades to existing systems.   
• Analyzes and/or resolves computer, software, and application problems for on-premise and cloud-based systems and network resources supported by the City of Los Altos.   
• Monitors computer systems, networks, and applications for response time, problem prevention, performance and resource utilization.   
• Reports hardware failures to appropriate vendors via telephone or on-line systems.   
• Evaluates user hardware and software needs and assists in acquisition of approved equipment and software.   
• Assists IT team members to train end-users in operating systems, application programs; assists users in applying computer training to work environment; creates technical documents and computer training for end-users.   
• Schedules training classes and coordinates class preparation.   
• Assists with front counter check-in system as well as campus-wide wireless networks.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND GENERAL WORKING CONDITIONS
Requires the mobility and manual dexterity to work in a standard office environment, use standard office equipment and attend off-site meetings; speech and hearing to communicate in person and by telephone; vision to read handwritten and printed materials and a computer screen; and strength and agility to lift and carry items weighing up to 70 pounds. On a continuous basis work in an office environment sitting at a desk for long periods of time; travel from job site to job site sitting in vehicle; bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist while performing field work; may be exposed to dust, noise, machinery, moving objects and other vehicles while performing field work; may work on uneven or slippery surfaces; and may intermittently perform field work while exposed to various types of weather including extreme heat during summer months and cold temperatures during the winter months. EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Any combination equivalent to experience, education and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities could be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:    

• An Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in a field such as computer science, information technology
  systems or a related field. Professional certification in one or more fields of information technology may be substituted for the education. Additional years of experience may be substituted for educational experience on year for year basis.  
• Possession of a MCSA (Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate). CompTIA A+, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MSCE) is desirable but not required.  
• 3+ years of experience providing user support in the operation, maintenance, and implementation of applications programs on multiple platforms
  including client/server, desktop computer and networks.  
• Possession of a valid California driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record is required.

COMPENSATION
This is a Part-Time/Temporary/Seasonal position with an hourly rate range of $32/hr – $45/hr (DOE).

OTHER INFORMATION
Part-Time/Temporary/Seasonal employees are non-benefited, at-will positions. Since the City does not participate in Social Security and is required to provide an alternative retirement plan, you are required to participate in the City's defined contribution retirement plan through Nationwide where 3.75% of your gross compensation per pay period is deducted and put into the plan. The City matches this 3.75% for a total contribution of 7.5% of your gross compensation per pay period.
