This is a journey-level classification encompassing specialized technical and administrative support within the Police Department. Incumbents are responsible for the comprehensive maintenance of departmental databases, preparation and assembly of detailed reports, support of recruitment processes, contribution to departmental planning initiatives, and provision of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) expertise. This classification demands independent work and the exercise of sound judgment and initiative. Employees at this level operate with minimal supervision, receiving assistance only for novel or complex situations, and demonstrate a thorough understanding of departmental operating procedures and policies.

THE REDWOOD CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT

Includes seven fire stations housing seven engines, one truck, one fire chief and currently has over 95 staff members including firefighters, firefighter/paramedics, two deputy fire chiefs, captains, battalion chiefs, fire prevention staff, training staff, and administrative staff.

THE POSITION OF BUSINESS MANAGER

Under the general direction of a department head, functions as a division head and provides complex administrative support; provides direct and indirect supervision; represents the department on administrative support matters involving other departments and agencies; provides broad-based technical assistance with fiscal, budgetary, grant and policy issues; researches, analyzes, and prepares financial forecasting, administrative and technical reports; performs a variety of delegated assignments; and performs related work as required.

• Participates in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and priorities of the department.
• Plan, direct, supervise and coordinate the activities of department personnel in providing technical and support services.

Foster City is seeking a well-qualified individual with strong leadership skills to fill the position of Financial Services Manager. They are responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and managing the day-to-day operations of accounts receivable, business license, cash receipts, and utilities. The Financial Services Manager compiles annual City budget and all non-departmental budgets, manages the effective use of division resources to improve organizational productivity and customer service, provides complex and responsible support to the Finance Director in areas of expertise, and performs related work as required.

The position will be an overfill position due to the current incumbent's retirement, pending City Council approval. This position will be filled for training purposes to ensure a smooth transition and continuity of operations allowing the new hire to gain hands-on experience and knowledge before the incumbent's departure. The anticipated start date will be October 2025. 

Education and Experience
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities. A typical way would be:

Education: Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting, finance, business or public administration, or a related.

Experience: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible government finance experience including one (1) year of supervisory experience.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training, and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. 

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. Current and future vacancies may be filled from this list. The list will remain in effect for at least one year unless exhausted sooner. 

The department will invite the most qualified candidates from the eligibility list to a final department interview. The Financial Services Department will make the hiring decision. 

Expected Dates for Examinations (subject to change): 
Oral Panel Interview: In person with an option for virtual if needed on September 3, 2025, and September 4, 2025.
Department Interview: In person only on September 8, 2025, and September 9, 2025.

The City of Redwood City Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Department invites you to apply for the casual position of Human Services Assistant at the Fair Oaks Community Center (FOCC). We are currently seeking dedicated and hard-working individuals for temporary, full-time positions to be hired into our Candidate Services Unit. This position encompasses:
 
Clerical Support:

• Data Entry
• Preparing/Receiving Forms
• Filing Completed Forms
• Prepare, organize, and mail certification documents

 
Customer Service:

• Organize and schedule filing appointments with potential candidates
• Work in-person with candidates on filing papers
• General knowledge of deadlines/forms to assist candidates

The hourly wage for this position starts at $22.59. Overtime is expected. 
 
NOTE: This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Extra-help hours are dependent on the business needs of the department and therefore work hours may vary from week to week. Extra help employees shall not exceed 1,040 hours of work per fiscal year. Some extra help positions are eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Extra help employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment. 

 

Qualifications

Ideal Candidate Service Office Assistants will have a minimum of one year of general clerical, office assistant, phone services, or computer experience. At least one election cycles worth of experience in Candidate Filing is preferred as well.
 
Critical Skills include the ability to prioritize work, coordinate several activities organize, and maintain accurate files and records, and understand and carry out oral and written directions. As an Office Assistant it is also integral to have a positive attitude and demonstrate good leadership to assist other members of the team and help ensure day to day operations run smoothly.
 
Office hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. These positions may require weekend and evening work assignments. The selected individuals must be available for the entire employment period until the completion of their assignment.
