Distinguishing Characteristics:  The Library Clerk  is a part time permanent position with the St. Helena Public Library.  Under direction of the Adult Services Supervisor, this person will work such duties as checking books in/out, answering telephones, preparing library cards, and providing reference and readers advisory services. This person will understand and promote the variety of library services available.  Performs other related duties as required.  Hours may vary from 10-16 hours per week and are set at the time of appointment; may include day, night, and/or weekend hours.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Check books in and out; issues library cards.

• Assist patrons and explains the use of computers as well as other related equipment and software available for general use.
• Perform opening and/or closing procedures as directed.

The Thousand Oaks Library is seeking customer-service oriented and collaborative part-time (hourly) Library Monitors to assist with a variety of tasks at the Library.    These positions are typically scheduled to work 15 hours per week, primarily afternoons, evenings and weekends and require working at both the Grant R. Brimhall and Newbury Park Branch locations.

Primary responsibilities:

• Monitor the public and staff areas of the library, including meeting rooms and the exterior parking areas to maintain a comfortable and safe environment
• Provide excellent customer service to visitors to the library
• Respond to the materials security alarm when set off by patrons
• Assist library staff with securing the building at closing time

The City of Sunnyvale seeks a Supervising Librarian for Children's and Teen Services at the Sunnyvale Public Library. Under general direction of the Superintendent of Libraries, the Supervising Librarian develops, implements and evaluates children and teen services to the public with a focus on community engagement and innovation. He or she provides strong leadership for children and teen services to deliver services, programs and resources in response to community needs. The Supervising Librarian manages a high-performing team of 5 full-time and 2 part-time librarians.

The Supervising Librarian position is in the Library division of the Department of Library and Community Services (LCS). Under direct supervision, a Library Page is to sort, shelve, straighten, and relocate library materials on the shelves; pull library materials off shelves, and prepare the library for opening/closing procedures.  The ability to quickly and accurately sort items alphabetically and numerically.  This is an ideal job for someone who has good organizational skills, and able to work with others. A library page also provides basic directional information to library users.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

Standing in and walking between work areas is frequently required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard. Positions in this classification frequently bend, stoop, kneel, and reach to perform assigned duties, as well as push and pull carts. THE POSITION

The Director of the Larkspur Library will work closely with the City Manager to shape and implement the Library’s vision and future.   This position will develop lasting and effective collaborative relationships with library team members, City Council, Library Board, community organizations, County and other local libraries, and benefactors to develop and foster intriguing programs and services beneficial to the local community and the City.  Though there is currently not a timetable for development, the City is planning for the eventual construction of a new Library and Community Center, and this position is a key member of the staff team involved with this project.

REPORTING TO THE CITY MANAGER, THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL:

• Plan, organize, direct, and coordinate all library programs and services, including outreach, reference, children’s, teens’, technical, and circulation services.

• Prepare, administer, and monitor library budget.

• Identify sources of revenue and funding, including grants and library collections.

• Serve as staff member to the library Board of Trustees; work with the Board, local officials, community members, community organizations, and staff to plan and deliver library services and programs.

• Interpret and promote the library, its services and needs to the public.

• Instill a culture and expectation of superior customer service for all staff.

• Prepare and submit technical and special reports; make oral presentation.

• Serve as board member of MARINet and the North Bay Cooperative Library System.

• Direct the development of technology plans to integrate current and new technology into the delivery of library and information services; ensure MARINet’s automation system upgrades and standard system-wide procedures are implemented in the Larkspur Library.

• Collaborate with a variety of City staff, the Library Board, Friends of the Library and the Library Foundation in facility enhancements, renovations, and new construction.

• Partner with other Department heads to deliver community services effectively.

• Participate in City management committees, work groups and taskforces as assigned.
