ABOUT THE POSITION

City of Gilroy is recruiting for two (2) part-time Recreation Leaders III or Recreation Specialists, to be filled at either level. This position will provide non-traditional, recreational community-based programs, services and resources to targeted youth and families in coordination with the South County Youth Task Force.  The position is limited term through December 15, 2020.  The goal of the Recreation Department is to effectively and efficiently manage the development goals of the city while creating an environment that encourages business expansion and development consistent with the city’s guiding documents.

The City of Dublin is seeking a creative and community oriented, self-starter to serve as Recreation Technician.  Under the direction of the Recreation Coordinator-Special Events, this position is responsible for developing, organizing and overseeing a variety of recreational services, activities, and programs. The current vacancy is for a Recreation Technician who will assist with various community and special events, including the weekly Farmer’s Markets, seasonal event and large scale events, such as the St. Patrick’s Day Festival, which attracts over 50,000 visitors. This job requires a flexible schedule to work at evening and weekend events.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Assists with the City’s recreation and community services programs which may include: aquatics, senior citizens, youth and adult sports, playgrounds, special events, camps, teens and preschool. 
• Provides on-site supervision and implementation of assigned program areas.
• Assists with administrative tasks including the maintenance of records, files and other data.
• Assists in preparing promotional materials including flyers, program brochures, newsletters and press releases.
• Ensures that assigned program or event is operating in compliance with established health and fire department rules and regulations.
• Monitors facilities and activities of users; secures facilities as required.
• Issues equipment for recreational activities; prepares for special events such as dances and excursions.
• Participates in assessing supplies needed for events and requisition additional supplies as needed.
• Assists in the assurance that City recreational activities start and finish in the prescribed manner and time frames. 
• Assists responsible staff to prepare for upcoming recreational events.
• Notifies participants for scheduling events and registration requirements.
• Coordinates recruitments, recommends for employment, trains, supervises and evaluates volunteers and temporary part-time staff.

DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES:

     The salary range for this classification is $18.66-$22.71 hourly, $38,812.80 -$47,236.80 annually. This position is covered under the Living Wage Policy and your hourly rate will be adjusted to $22.68/23.93 per hour.  The Living Wage rate consists of a base amount and an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay.

     Parks Recreation and Neighborhood Services department (PRNS) is recruiting to fill multiple Community Activity Worker positions to support the following programs. Some positions may be part-time or limit dated June 30, 2020:

     About Project Hope – Project Hope is a community empowerment program that focuses on educating the residents on how to work in partnership with the City to coordinate and mobilize resources that will help address ongoing neighborhood/community issues such as crime, poverty, and blight. The program’s goal is to develop sustainable neighborhood associations that can best advocate for their community. Current vacancies exist in each of three teams, which will consist of one Community Coordinator and two Community Activity Workers.

     About BeautifySJ program - The BeautifySJ Anti-Graffiti & Anti-Litter program provides coordinated graffiti abatement services, coordinates neighborhood litter clean-up events and hosts three large annual litter events throughout the City of San Jose.  Current vacancies exist in the following three areas: volunteer coordination, work order system management, and graffiti and litter abatement.

Please note that staff may be required to work weekends and evenings.

     The Community Activity Worker will report directly to the Community Coordinator. Job duties for the position include, but are not limited to:

          + Assist with volunteer recruitment and retention efforts to form neighborhoods associations and volunteer groups to become self-sufficient and pro-active neighborhood advocates and stewards

          + Work independently in remote field offices located in schools, places of worship and other place-based community partners

          + Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with community members, neighborhood organizations, key stakeholders, City staff (Council, Mayor’s Office, and all City Departments)

          + Participates in planning and coordinating in-service training and development of program aids and materials

          + Performs public contact and liaison work in explaining and interpreting program

          + Conducts and facilitates workshops for the neighborhood

          + Assists in planning and implementing special activities or programs, such as community service projects, community meetings, community litter pick-ups, neighborhood-wide events, dumpster days

          + Designs and produces flyers and announcements

          + May be required to provide bilingual translation and/or interpretation

          2. BeautifySJ program -

     *

          + Support the City’s inter-Department BeautifySJ Initiative to address litter/trash related blight by attending resource fairs and neighborhood based outreach events

          + Directly support the Anti-Litter Program efforts to reduce citywide by collaborating with internal City Departments and external partners

          + Plan, lead and execute neighborhood litter events including litter cleanup events located at or near encampments

          + Work with schools, non-profit partners, and organizations to form litter cleanup groups to support the City’s efforts to reduce litter

          + Assist with volunteer recruitment and retention efforts, including data collection and leading volunteer litter cleanup events

          + Interact daily with City staff, Council staff, residents, vendors, and property owners to address litter related blight.

This is a part-time non-benefited position. Work schedule: Up to 29 hours per week as needed. No guaranteed minimum number of hours per week. Hours of operation are typically Monday through Friday 7:00am-9:30pm and Saturday/Sunday from 6:30am-10:00pm.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Individual will work primarily at the City’s Seal Beach Tennis Center performing duties including but not limited to; greeting and supervising members/users, handling of payments inside the Pro Shop, enforcing the rules and regulations of the Facility, opening/closing the facility, removal of trash, restocking of supplies in kitchen and locker rooms, general court maintenance including court washing, locker room cleaning, and oversee security of the facility.

This position will periodically work facility rentals on weekends at the City’s Community Centers for various functions: Wedding receptions, baby showers, birthday parties, etc. It may also help assist with scorekeeping Adult Sports programs such as: Basketball and Softball.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Ability to: Communicate effectively (both written and verbally); make good decisions; push, pull, drag, lift or carry equipment/supplies up to 50 lbs., lean, stoop, twist, bend and kneel in performance of job duties.

Experience & Training: One year experience working for Parks and Recreation Department and general knowledge of tennis or sports is desired.

This position will primarily work Monday - Friday (specific work schedule to be determined) with variable hours averaging 25+ per week.  This is a temporary, part-time non-benefited position.

Summary:
Under direction, assists in the implementation, operation and maintenance of the District’s computer workstations; maintains, tests, and updates information systems programs and applications; installs and provides technical assistance for computer hardware and software; and performs related duties as assigned.

The County Manager's Office is seeking well-qualified candidates for the position of Project Analyst and Communications Coordinator for the North Fair Oaks Middlefield Road Improvement Project.  Spanish/English bilingual skills are required for this position.

Under general supervision from the Community Affairs Manager the selected individual will assist in developing project goals, objectives, procedures, and work standards and will monitor the progress of the project.  In addition, the individual will serve as liaison to the public, residents, businesses, and other organizations in the North Fair Oaks district and relevant to the project.   

The individual will also serve as liaison to County executives and will perform research in order to prepare and submit reports and presentations to the Board of Supervisors, the County Manager, the North Fair Oaks Council, and other boards and commissions related to the project.

The Project Analyst and Communication Coordinator will plan, organize, and coordinate all public and internal communication activities for the Project, including determining best practices for communication strategies, developing the Communication Plan, and facilitating the messaging to various outlets and recipients and determining the appropriate variations for the recipients.  The selected individual will develop and maintain relationships with community residents, businesses, and organizations.  The individual will also plan and facilitate community meetings, generate public notices, and receive and respond to public complaints, inquires, and questions related to the project.
 
The position may exercise direct and indirect supervision over professional, technical, and clerical staff. 
 
The ideal candidate will have the ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, and regulations regarding community development and community outreach.  In addition, the ideal candidate will have the demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative and will have the skills to work as a member of a team. Strong written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish are requirements for the position. 
 
The position will require participation in meetings conducted in the evenings and on weekends.  Flexibility in scheduling is required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience: 
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify would be: 

• Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in business administration, public administration, and/or public relations, media communication or journalism, or a closely related field.
• At least one year of professional administrative experience is typically required at the Associate Management Analyst level, and at least 3 years for the Management Analyst level.  Preferred is four years of professional experience with responsibility for public relations and the preparation and dissemination of information to the general public.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Depending upon assignment, possession of a valid California Driver's License.
