This assignment will assist Park Rangers with clearing vegitation and helping protect loal wildlife habitats. 
Temporary part-time positions (2) anticipated through June to work 2-4 days/week

Looking for candidates with interest in natural history, biology, or wildlife conservation.

Summary:

Employees receive moderate supervision within a framework of standard policies and procedures and may be assigned to work in different areas throughout the District, including grounds, custodial and open space.

Must be available to work varied schedules, including weekends and holidays. Positions are part-time and schedules are made based on the needs of the assigned units of Grounds, Maintenance or Park Rangers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support daily upkeep and cleanliness of parks, public areas, and facilities
• Perform routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning restrooms, removing litter, trail repair, and maintaining reservation or event areas
• Use hand and power tools for light landscaping work including pruning, weeding, and planting
• Prepare open space, athletic fields or recreational spaces for public use
• Assist with basic irrigation and sprinkler maintenance
• Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work environment

Minimum Qualifications:

Must be at least 18 years old

Education and Experience:

Graduation from high school or equivalent; maintenance/construction or landscape experience preferred.

Certificates and Licenses:

• Valid California Driver License with satisfactory driving record
• Satisfactory completion of a pre-employment functional capacity examination
• Department of Justice fingerprint clearance

Language Ability:
Ability to read and comprehend basic instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to park visitors and to other employees.

Math Ability:
Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

Reasoning Ability:
Ability to use common-sense understanding to carry out instructions provided in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Gilroy is seeking a college level Youth Task Force (YTF) Summer College Intern to work in the Gilroy Police Department Violence Prevention Unit. In this exciting opportunity, the YTF Intern will work under the direction of the Youth Task Force Coordinator, and will help carry out community events, participate in community organizing, community forums, community surveying, support engagement projects, and will help lead recreational and outreach programs at San Ysidro Park. The City of Newark is seeking an Urban Forest Supervisor for the Public Works Department. The Urban Forest Supervisor leads the City’s forestry and landscape maintenance programs. This role blends strategic planning, technical expertise in tree health, and hands-on project management to ensure a safe and well-maintained urban environment.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

• Participates in the preparation of the operating budget for the landscape and tree program; participates in the forecasting of additional funds needed for materials and supplies and gathers cost estimates as directed. 
• Provides skilled and technical direction on care, maintenance, disease prevention, and removal of trees; plans inspection and maintenance of all trees in appropriate cycles; assigns priorities and special projects as needed.  
• Inspects work sites before, during and after completion of work to assure that required work is completed in a satisfactory and thorough manner; inspects work sites, equipment and tools for compliance with safety standards; and inspects and approves work done by outside contractors. 

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

• Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent, and four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in landscape and tree maintenance, including two (2) years of lead responsibility or other qualifying higher level public works maintenance experience.

Licenses and Certifications

• Possession of a Qualified Applicator Certificate issued by the State of California.

PAL (Police Activities League) Program Attendants work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist I. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19 hours per week.

The Department: The Recreation, Parks and Marina Department is responsible for the operations and programs of the Suisun City Marina, the Senior Center and the Joseph A. Nelson Center, including preschool, after-school programs at various sites, recreation classes and sports leagues, community events and special event rentals.

The Position: PAL Program Attendants work with Suisun City’s PAL Program and with area teenagers ages 13-19 to implement educational and recreational activities: tutoring, sports, games, mini-excursions, competitions, contests, seminars, and special events, and provide general support to the program’s Recreation Supervisor. ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Gilroy is recruiting an undergraduate or graduate-level City Emergency Management College Summer Intern for the summer of 2026. This internship will provide a significant opportunity to gain experience and exposure and accumulate skills that are used daily in city government emergency management programs that make substantial impacts to the community. The Emergency Management Team works year-round to ensure that community is prepared for disasters through planning, training, outreach, and coordination with local and regional partners. Joining our team means contributing to meaningful work that directly supports community reliance and preparedness. 

Working under the supervision of the Emergency Services and Volunteer Coordinator, the Emergency Management Intern will assist with planning, preparedness, outreach, and administrative functions that support OEM programs and Emergency Operations Center (EOC) readiness. Work includes both office-based and field support activities.

• Assist with Emergency Management Volunteer coordination and management 
• Help develop outreach materials and coordinate community education events

About the Position:  The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District (Midpen) Seasonal Ranger Aide is an entry-level position, which provides the opportunity to learn and perform some duties of a ranger under the guidance of experienced ranger staff.  Ranger Aides provide visitor information and assistance, travelling by non-emergency Midpen vehicles and on foot throughout an assigned geographical region. Ranger Aides perform a variety of customer service duties such as educating and informing the public about Midpen land use regulations, public relations and provide general information services, but do not have law enforcement authority.  Ranger Aides will assist with routine maintenance work on Midpen land and facilities and may respond to assist with emergency calls. Equivalent to graduation from high school. Six months experience working in a customer service-related field.  Some experience or training in a parks settings is desirable.

Schedules:  This is a full-time position. Employees are expected to work full-time (40 hours during the work week); however, school schedules may be accommodated around regular days/hours of operations.  Weekend work (Sat/Sun) is required, with two consistent days off each week (either Mondays/Tuesdays off OR Thursdays/Fridays off), depending on the field office operational needs. Incumbents will work an 8-hour workday (plus a 30-minute unpaid meal break). Daily start and end times will be the same for most workdays, typically scheduled within the range of 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Must be willing to work weekends, nights, holidays, or extended shifts and work with exposure to difficult circumstances, including exposure to challenging situations and upset individuals. Seasonal assignments will not exceed 950 hours or 7 months, whichever comes first, and do not include benefits.

Working Conditions: Most work is outdoors within Midpen’s open space lands with exposure to inclement weather conditions. This requires the ability to patrol on foot, off trail, and in rugged terrain.  Also requires the ability to perform related emergency services and maintenance and construction work on Midpen lands. Once trained, Ranger Aides may work alone for parts or all of their shifts. Must wear prescribed District uniform and adhere to strict safety procedures and work habits.

Summary:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of custodial tasks and provides oversight of rental groups, in accordance with District policies and procedures.

• Assist patrons and prospective participants on the phone and in-person
• Assist permit groups with set-up and breakdown of tables, chairs, and other equipment
• Promptly open and unlock facilities or close and secure facilities as scheduled
• Complete facility condition forms following permit group use and incident reports as needed
• Notify management concerning need for major repairs or additions
• Turn athletic field lights off and on for sports groups
• Sell and scan admission tickets special events and/or theater performances

• Sweep floors, vacuum carpets, and dust or polish furniture, fixtures, and equipment
• Wash windows, clean restrooms, replenish supplies, and sanitize high touch areas often

About the role:                                                                                    

The Parks, Recreation & Community Services Manager – Special Events and Cultural Arts is responsible for leading the planning, production, and oversight of the City’s signature special events, while also supporting Redwood City’s cultural arts programming. From large-scale downtown festivals and concerts to cultural celebrations, family events, and community gatherings featured on www.RedwoodCityEvents.com, this position helps ensure that our parks, plazas, and public spaces remain active, welcoming, and full of life.

This role oversees the full lifecycle of major community events, including concept development, budgeting, sponsorship coordination, vendor and performer booking, permitting, logistics, safety planning, marketing coordination, and on-site production. Signature events such as outdoor concert series, holiday celebrations, cultural festivals, movie nights, and destination activations require thoughtful coordination with Police, Fire, Public Works, Economic Development, and community partners. The Manager leads cross-departmental teams, supervises event staff, manages complex timelines, and ensures every event is inclusive, professionally executed, and reflective of Redwood City’s diverse and dynamic community.

In addition to overseeing special events, this role supports the City’s cultural arts programs and public art initiatives. Responsibilities include serving as staff liaison to the Arts Commission, supporting implementation of the Public Art Master Plan, assisting with Percent for Art ordinance compliance, coordinating with developers on qualifying projects, and helping maintain and promote the City’s growing public art collection.
