Summary: 
Under direct supervision, leads the planning and coordination of specialized recreational programs for the community and provides staff assistance in a specialized program area; and performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides work guidance and participates in the work of Recreation Specialists, contract, temporary and administrative support staff; participates in prioritizing workload and monitoring work of other employees for completeness, accuracy and conformance with departmental standards; provides information, instruction and training on work processes; provides input on employee work performance.
• Leads the planning, promoting and implementation of specialized recreation programs for an assigned community area or group, including registration and special events; verifies staff and/or instructor availability; resolves conflicts related to activities and events. Assists in conducting training programs for staff and recruiting volunteers and contract personnel
• Determines needs for and assignment of personnel and/or contractors; oversees the day-to-day work performance and coordinates work with contractors and internal departments.
• Participates in collecting fees for services; provides patron assistance with payments; properly stores or transfers cash monies; processes refund requests; initiates purchase orders; tracks revenue and expenditures; contributes to budget monitoring and development
• Serves as liaison with community groups to assess needs and proposes program ideas; engages patrons to solicit feedback on existing programs and identifies gaps in service; implements changes and adjustments to programs to enhance participants’ experience.
• Generates, reviews and maintains a variety of records and reports related to all aspects of programming, training, participation, staff scheduling and other records as required.
• Promotes participation in scheduled activities and explains specialized programs to patrons; interfaces with prospective and current participants through emails, telephone and social media contacts; collaborates with marketing team to create fliers, assists in collecting information for print material, submits material for approval, and posts print advertisements.
• Performs regular safety inspections of assigned units; initiates maintenance work orders; maintains appropriate emergency supplies and first aid inventory for facility
• May be assigned to camp programs.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• May be required to drive a District or personal vehicle.
• May attend and participate in councils or associations related to specialty.
• Participates during disasters or when emergency response is needed.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
 To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge, skill and/or ability listed below is qualifying.

Education/Experience: A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: graduation from high school or GED, and two years of relevant experience, specialized training and at least 30 units completed in recreation or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An associate's degree is preferred.

When assigned to Inclusion: an associate degree from a two-year college with an emphasis in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Therapeutic Recreation, Special Education, or a closely related field, along with two years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability: Ability to communicate effectively in English in both written and oral form. Ability to write routine correspondence using correct spelling and grammar.

Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to use common sense and exercise good judgement in solving problems. Ability to establish effective relationships with fellow employees, volunteers and participants and parents/guardians.

Certificates and Licenses:

• First Aid & CPR/AED within 90 days of employment with ability to maintain certifications thereafter as a condition of employment.
• A valid California driver’s license with a good driving record and current auto- mobile insurance. For Therapeutics unit: ability to obtain a commercial driver license within one year of employment (for a 15-passenger van).
• Department of Justice fingerprint clearance.
• Proof of a negative TB skin test.
• Aquatics Unit: American Red Cross Lifeguard Training; American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor; American Red Cross First Aid for Public Safety Personnel (Title 22); American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor; Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator.
• Conejo Senior Volunteer Program (CSVP): ability to obtain ServSafe Food Manager Certification within 90 days of employment.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position provides lead-level work guidance to Recreation Specialists and/or part-time staff, contractors and volunteers. Contributes to and participates in performance evaluations. May act as Recreation Coordinator in their absence.

Position Duties

The City of Sausalito Invites Applications for the Position of

PARKING ENFORCEMENT OFFICER/COMMUNITY SERVICES OFFICER

The Parking Enforcement Officer (PEO) performs a variety of law enforcement support duties with the majority of responsibilities involving enforcement of parking rules and regulations in an assigned area while driving a parking enforcement scooter or car or walking on foot. Duties include  reporting defective street signs, pavement markings and parking meters; providing information to the public concerning city geography, location of buildings, public transit stations and stops, and city functions and offices, impounding and providing for the storage of vehicles as necessary, responding to low priority city ordinance violations, assisting with simple evidence collection as needed, assisting with report taking as necessary, and performing related work as required to assist the patrol staff.   

The PEO will use a computer to make entries, update and make corrections to information and keep a variety of detailed logs and files, while also using a variety of law enforcement communication equipment.  In addition to issuing warnings and citations, the PEO may testify in court regarding citations issued and other events.  These duties will be performed under general supervision and when assigned, working with other staff. The majority of the workday will be spent on the field (i.e., outside) in various weather conditions.

A typical schedule is four 10-hour days per week including weekends, nights, and holidays.  The PEO is a physically demanding position as stooping, lifting, kneeling and reaching overhead and forward is required daily.

Under the general direction of the Community Development Director, the HCSM will plan, direct, and oversee the operations and programs of the Housing and Community Services Division and provide leadership and oversight of the development and administration of housing programs and grant-funded initiatives that support long-term housing affordability and stability for residents, including unhoused and at-risk populations. Working collaboratively with public agencies, nonprofit organizations, regional partners, and community stakeholders, the HCSM will help implement innovative housing solutions and advance strategic initiatives aligned with City goals and community priorities.

This position is an exempt, mid-management level position that must exercise competent discretion and judgement in the performance of duties and interactions with others. This position will be included with the Gilroy Management Association employee group.

Additional steps (Step F, Step G, and Step H) included in the salary range listed above are available to employees in this job classification after completion of five years of service (Step F), ten years of service (Step G), and 15 years of service (Step H), and one year at the prior step, and good performance evaluation. Initial salary placement is typically at the entry point of the range unless the candidate has prior Code Enforcement Officer experience which may warrant initial placement at a higher step.

This is a full-time, on-site position, designed for direct collaboration with the team and active participation in daily operations.

This position works varied hours/shifts/days of the week to meet the code enforcement needs of the agency. The regular work schedule may include varied days of the week, including weekends, and work hours (days/swings to 2 a.m.) and overtime availability is required often in the evenings (to include late night hours such as 2 a.m.) or on the weekends for targeted enforcement.

This position offers a meaningful opportunity to help uphold community standards and ensure compliant neighborhoods. The Code Enforcement Officer will respond to resident concerns and proactively identify violations such as property maintenance issues, and zoning infractions. You will educate the public on code requirements through clear and respectful communication and work collaboratively with other city departments and external agencies to resolve issues. Tasks involve inspections and enforcement of applicable ordinances pertaining to residential and commercial properties, housing, building construction, and other related regulations. Additionally, the Code Enforcement Officer will issue notices, citations, and follow up on compliance efforts in a fair and consistent manner. It is also imperative that the Code Enforcement Officer maintain accurate case files and documentation for possible legal proceedings.

FIRST YEAR PROJECTS/ASSIGNMENTS:

• Learn and understand the City of Gilroy code enforcement processes and help solve problems to foster community pride. 
• Engage in real-world code enforcement assignments by working on active cases and assisting in clearing the backlog to ensure safe and well-maintained neighborhoods.
• Participate in special enforcement details as assigned which may include varied work hours and weekends.
• Participate in specialized training and obtain certifications to enhance your expertise and knowledge of code enforcement. 

CANDIDATE PERSPECTIVE/ LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES 
As a Code Enforcement Officer, you will have the opportunity to be part of and work with a dedicated team in maintaining and improving the quality of life of the diverse community with the City of Gilroy. Your responsibilities will include investigating complaints, documenting violations, and ensuring strict compliance with codes and regulations. You will interpret and explain City codes and ordinances, issue notices of violations, issue administrative citations, prepare written reports, administrative abatement orders, and record abatement notices. You will actively contribute to the team by assisting customers, taking the lead with some cases that may require the cooperation of other departments, attend community meetings, and work evenings and weekends.

COMMUNITY RESILIENCE COORDINATOR

$8,429.47 – $11,577.50 Monthly, Plus Excellent Benefits

The salary range listed above reflects the full compensation potential for this position. However, initial salary placement will typically be at the lower end of the range and will not exceed 97% of the range maximum. Placement within the range will be based on the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications. Progression through the range may occur over time, subject to continued service, good performance evaluations, and the City’s administrative policies.

This is a grant funded position that is funded through February 4, 2029. 

Opportunity to work a 9/80 work schedule with every other Friday off.

This position is full-time on-site position that actively supports department operations.  

Future MOU salary increases: 2.5% on 7/1/27.

Under direct supervision of the Assistant City Administrator, the Community Resilience Coordinator will develop, implement and lead comprehensive local resilience vision, strategy and planning related to the community’s emergency preparedness and responsive programs. Emphasis will be placed on services and programs for populations that are more at-risk during disasters due to lack of resources and education. Additional responsibilities include developing solutions to reduce disaster risks, securing and managing mitigation grant funding, delivering community resilience education and training, and effectively engaging, partnering, and collaborating with a variety of officials, local, state, and federal agencies, businesses, community services, both public and private, concerning the related work and goals of the City. Moreover, the CRC will undertake related special projects with citywide significance, and perform other related duties as required. This position is considered essential personnel during City emergencies and is expected to be available to staff and support the Emergency Operations Center.
