The Parks, Recreation & Community Services Manager – Senior Services is responsible for leading the operations, programs, services, and community engagement efforts that support Redwood City’s older adult population. This position oversees a broad range of senior services, including recreation programming, wellness initiatives, social services coordination, special events, facility operations, partnerships, and community outreach, while helping ensure the City’s brand new 45,000 square foot senior center continues to be a welcoming, active, inclusive, and responsive community space.

This role provides leadership and oversight for the day-to-day operations of senior services programs and facilities, including staff supervision, budget administration, program development, strategic planning, contract management, and customer service delivery. The Manager works collaboratively across City departments and with community organizations, regional agencies, volunteers, and service providers to support programs and services that enhance quality of life, social connection, health, and lifelong learning opportunities for older adults.

The Manager also serves as a key liaison to community stakeholders and the Senior Affairs commission, helps guide long-range planning efforts related to aging services and ensures programs and services reflect the evolving needs of Redwood City’s diverse senior community. Responsibilities include overseeing operational logistics, evaluating program effectiveness, supporting staff development, and maintaining strong partnerships that advance the City’s commitment to accessible and high-quality community services.

The Department: 

The Community Development Department strives to enhance the community’s safety, welfare, quality of life, and economic opportunities by providing advanced planning, development review, permitting and inspection services, as well as administration of programs related to affordable housing. 

The Community Development Department consists of three divisions: Planning, Building, and Housing and Community Services. The Department guides the ongoing physical development of the community, which includes long range land use planning, review of new development proposals and construction to ensure that it conforms to the standards of the City and State and ensures the provision of affordable housing with the City of Santa Clara. The delivery of high-quality professional services, including the enhancement and streamlining of the development permit process, and forging partnerships to provide housing services to lower income members of the community, are primary objectives of the Department. The Department acts as an advisor to the City’s decision-makers in these areas and carries out the policies of the City Council. 

The Department demands for quality communications continues to increase, especially as the list of high visibility development projects grows in Santa Clara. The department is seeking a dedicated Communications Coordinator to handle outreach and engagement efforts and be a liaison to the City’s Communications Team.

The Position: 

The incumbent provides high-level public information and community outreach services that require in-depth knowledge of public sector communications, website content and graphic design, and experience in managing and implementing creative and innovative promotions and projects.

This role is essential to centralizing the department’s communication efforts and ensuring that both internal and public-facing messages are strategic, consistent, and impactful.
 
The Communications Coordinator will be housed in the Technology and Communications Team and will be supervised by the Assistant Director. The Communications Coordinator will work across all divisions and will not only help streamline communications related to key initiatives and projects but also serve as an internal consultant, helping staff develop clear, effective messaging across all channels. This will enable the department to better meet increasing demands from the City Manager’s Office for improved web content, newsletters, and outreach efforts, while also promoting the department’s key initiatives and projects to a broader audience.

Under general direction, the Communications Coordinator coordinates and maintains content on the Department's website and intranet; implements and supports internal and external communication efforts; and coordinates social media and video communication activities. Incumbents may function as a supervisor, or an individual contributor, depending on the department or assignment.

Acceptable Substitution: 

Additional full time professional experience in public relations, public information, or other related experience may be substituted for the education on a year-for-year basis up to two years with one year full time experience being equal to 30 semester (45 quarter) units of college.

Desirable Qualifications: 

• Experience working in the public sector communications, press releases, social media platforms, website and graphic design, and analytics research is desirable.

• Experience in managing and implementing creative promotions and projects is desirable.

The City of East Palo Alto is now actively seeking a Kitchen Aide. The Kitchen Aide receives general supervision from the Community Programs Manager, and technical and functional direction from the Nutrition Site Supervisor. The Kitchen Aide exercises no direct supervision over staff. In the absence of the Nutrition Site Supervisor, the Kitchen Aide may provide technical and functional direction over and provide training to other staff.

THE JOB

Instruct children and young adults (primarily 5-14 years of age) in beginning to intermediate tennis camp. Class content should provide basic and/or more advanced game mechanics, strategies, and the rules of tennis, depending on the student level of the skill. Class must emphasize the importance of good sportsmanship and team play. The goal is to have fun and develop a skill.

Schedule: Camp will run from June 8th through June 18th.

Group A (5-7yrs) 9:00AM to 9:45AM

Group B (8-10yrs) 10AM to 10:45AM

Group C (11yrs+) 11AM to 11:45AM

Location: LOHS Tennis Courts  

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS

• To provide, organization, leading, and instructing individuals and groups in sports programs.
• Provides encouragement to participants and provides a positive atmosphere for play.
• Supervise and implement safe practices as it relates to participants, programs, and facilities. 
• Implement lesson plans to be provided by the City.
• Maintains rosters and City forms.
• Advises participants on game and facility procedures and policies, as appropriate.
• Develop and lead daily tennis specific drill and game components.
• Reports accidents and prepares accident reports as required.
• Communicate effectively with children, other coaches/referees, parents, and community members.
• Sets up equipment and ensures its return in serviceable condition.
• Maintain program areas by cleaning up after activities.
• Performs other related duties as assigned by the Parks and Recreation Director.
• Make recommendations to the Parks and Recreation Director regarding program enhancement and any concerns regarding operations.

The Position:

The Senior Planner is the advanced journey level classification in the professional Planner series. An incumbent in this classification is responsible for performing complex planning duties in the administration of land use regulations, the City's General Plan, Housing Element, environmental review, and design review.  The Senior Planner is distinguished from the Associate Planner classification as they perform lead, supervisory responsibilities.

This Senior Planner position will be primarily assigned to advanced or long-range planning implementing the City’s Housing Element, including preparing Annual Progress Reports, monitoring Regional Housing Needs Allocations, developing, implementing, and monitoring policies, data analysis & reporting, and community engagement activities.

The ideal candidate is expected to be familiar with state planning and housing laws, including state density bonus requirements, and Housing Element requirements. They should be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the laws and the local implementing ordinances to ensure the City is in compliance. This position will also play a key role in advancing housing-related initiatives, many of which are part of the Housing Element programs.

The ideal candidate will be a motivated self-starter able to work independently, and with a team. They will be able to communicate effectively with supervisors, colleagues, consultants, decision-makers, and the public. Desirable Qualifications:

• Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), permit tracking software, such as Accela.

• Depending on position assignment, experience in a particular specialty such as current planning, advanced or long-range planning, California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), and/or Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping, or database development.

• Experience developing and delivering public presentations.

Part-time position: This position will be in the Grounds unit. Anticipated 3 days per week, up to 27 hours (may include weekend hours)

Summary:

Employees receive moderate supervision within a framework of standard policies and procedures and may be assigned to work in different areas throughout the District, including grounds, custodial and open space.

Must be available to work varied schedules, including weekends and holidays. Positions are part-time and schedules are made based on the needs of the assigned units of Grounds, Maintenance or Park Rangers.
